Afternoon slump!

Uh...i am so lazy right now.I could have a nap, but I am at work.I am thinking the boss would not appreciate that to much.
My question is, I had some rice and ck for my lunch and (of course)a small scoop of ice cream.Could that be possible why I am in a slump?I thought sugar was suppose to give you a rush but it never does with me.Is it possible that I may not be normal?:) I mean, what do border line diabetics get like when they eat sugar?
Or is is just my body needing a nap? I worked all weekend, night shifts, then slept from 8-12,averaging about 6 hours of sleep each day and then working 13hours.And last night I only got about 6 hours.
So is it just me or as anyone out there cut sugar out of their diet and now have loads of energy? I love sugar but I hate feeling nappish! (when I can't nap:-( )
Lori:)

yes, if i eat sugar i hate riding the wave! comming down off a sugar high is exhausting! i stay away from the stuff!

Getting more sleep might help. IMO 6 hours a night isn't enough, especially w/the hours you're working.

Edited to add: I hope w/those hours you're making some good money!

Hi, Lori!

Sounds more like a case of the shift work blues to me. My brother used to do shift work at a local factory and he was always exhausted.

I've heard that the body has a natural clock and when we throw it off kilter with irregular sleeping times, and patterns, it reacts. I 've also heard that most people require a minimum of 7-8 (or was it 9?) hours of sleep per night.

By the way, did anyone watch "20/20" last Friday? (10 Health and Beauty Myths). It said that when we are sleep-dreprived, we reach for the heavy-hitter calories to boost our energy. They did this test on this young guy who was pretty fit, and cut back his sleeping hours. Although he started out eating healthily, by day 3 he was having a whole container of HagenDaz and assorted junkfood -- for breakfast!

Oh, and another myth they dispelled on 20/20 was that ole "no eating after 8 p.m." rule. You can eat right before bed if you like. It's the total calories that matter, not at what time you have them. Makes no difference if you eat them at morning or night. (Although the nutritionist did suggest that the 5 small meals a day was the best way energy-wise). The problem is, 20/20 said that many people make the wrong choices late at night when they're relaxed and want a treat or a reward -- like pizza and junk food.

Oh, dear, I've gone off on tangent! Hope you get more sleep, Lori. Oh and by the way, every time I see on the Weather Channel that Newfoundland's getting yet another big storm, I think of you. You "Newfies" have had a tough winter! (What else is new?)

Hi Patricia,
Can't beleive you remember where I am from! Im probably the only newfie on this forum!:7 Well...we haven't had any snow in a while. But last night was bitter cold and today isn't much better. When its like this I just want to go home and soak in a nice hot bath. And then I don't want to workout b/c I am lazy...can't win! I am hoping we aren't going to get a much more snow.DH loves the winter but I am more of a summer gal.But if its not the snow then its tornados and hurricanes.Have you gotten much snow up your way? If you guys get it, it always heads our way;( So say NO.
I have heard what you just wrote before.I also read one time that it doesn't matter what you eat as long as you eat a certain amount of cals.I don't beleive that one.I would feel awful if I ate junk all day.
Last weekend was my first night shifts every. They weren't to bad.But I was really hungry in the night time.I couldn't eat to much though b/c I knew I would be over eating and it would have meant that I was eating for 20 hours.
I feel alot better now.Even though I was in a slump,I kept moving.I cleaned and I didn't sit down until an hour ago.If I sat down I would have feel alseep.I really wish I could ditch the sugar cravings I have. Its to bad DH doesn't have some sort of plan he would like to follow and we could make bets. When you are trying to keep something in check, you really need to do it with someone you are living with.
Now,who is on the tangent?
Lori
