I posted under "Ask Cathe" by accident after searching and replying to an AFAA PT post --

Just wanted to know if anyone's recently taken the AFAA PT exam. I'm taking it this weekend and am basically answering questions in the study guide and hope to ask questions, take notes during the next two days in the workshop before the exam.

Anyone wanna add opinions? Feel free, and I'll try to update if anyone would like.

Hi.

Can I ask why you picked AFAA? Do you already have a gym that will hire you and therefore advised you who to certify with?

Good luck this weekend! I'm sure you'll do great!:)

Sure - I picked AFAA to "start" to get a feel for the exam and the material. I researched extensively, and since I don't have a science background, AFAA was recommended as a good starter certification to get my feet wet. Feeling out the situation, I can "upgrade" my certification as necessary.

And, I don't plan to train in a gym - I'm going for a special population that will focus more on "light" and gentle training for people who fear exercise or exercise too much. The key behind this approach is to create that gentle atmosphere to make exercise not so daunting, to create a relationship of trust to feel good from the inside out...

If you've studied the provided material, you really will have no problems with this exam. There are a few questions regarding the major muscle groups. Most are really common sense and things you already know from working out.

You also only needs 70% to pass. The woman sitting next to me was not very bright, didn't study the materials AT ALL, just took notes during the lectures and passed.

Don't worry too much about it. It really is an easy exam.
