Hey folks, I'm posting to echo a piece of advice that RunninTeach posted on another thread, relating to planning your arrival at the Philadelphia airport on Friday of your Road Trip weekend.
RunninTeach had this to say:
The layout of the entire [Philadelphia] airport itself is, IMO, somewhat bass-ackwards, so [giving yourself] the extra time can't hurt. ... The most trouble I've run into is baggage claim. At times, when there are staffing issues, it can be a long wait. I would try to fly in as early as possible on Friday to avoid the rush hour traffic.
That last part about rush hour is really key, because to get from the airport to the hotels your Rapid Rover driver (or you, if you're renting a car) will travel a short piece of interstate highway. (Don't worry -- we will give you really really really clear driving directions.) Rush hour starts early and the highways can get ridiculous. So the earlier you can arrive, the better.
Remember that our first Road Trip official event will be the Friday Meet & Greet Party at Cathe's gym, beginning at 4:00 p.m. There will be bus service from the hotels, and you should try to plan on being there and being checked in, settled and ready to go by 3:30.
IF YOU KNOW THAT YOU WILL NOT BE ARRIVING IN PHILLY UNTIL LATER -- i.e., if you are thinking that getting to the hotels in time to catch the bus for the 4:00 event might be dicey for you -- then we recommend that you come straight to Cathe's gym. We will store your luggage for you safely during our party, and you can take it on the Cathe bus back to the hotels later. If you plan to do this, be sure to tell the hotels that you're going to be a "late check-in."
As always, post follow-up questions. Try not to stress over this too, kids. Just plan your travel as best you can, and we'll all help you deal with whatever turns up. ;-)
