ACE Certification "Library"

Beavs

Cathlete
I'm contemplating working toward the ACE certification for kicks and grins purposes (as opposed to sh!tz and giggles). Aside the study materials out there are there any books the experts out there would recommend adding to my library. I have already purchased a few of Cathe's past recommendations but wonder if there is anything else worthwhile out there to expand my knowledge and provide a bit of supplementary preparation to those exciting ACE materials.
TIA!

RE: ACE Certification

Good luck - I was thinking of doing this same thing!! First the PT cert and then the Health and Lifestyle Management certification.

RE: ACE Certification

Best of luck to you! :)

I am going through AFAA actually, and have all of my study guides for my primary fitness cert!

Have fun!

RE: ACE Certification

Beavs, I just used their personal training manual and then went to exercise etc's review class (which helped tremendously). They provided some review handouts and practice tests. I know there are tons of practice tests and so on that you can purchase from ACE's website but I didn't use any of them. Also, if you can find the book somewhere else (on Amazon perhaps?), then you may be able to get a better deal for a used book or something. It's funny but I have personal training books from: NASM, NSCA, and ACE. I found the ACE manual to be the easiest to follow and I referred to it even for my NASM personal training class.

RE: ACE Certification

Thank you all. I will need your well wishes ;-)
I did manage to snag almost all of the ACE study guides through cheapo means so now I feel like I need some other books just to flesh everything out. I am debating taking an online course through a community college on exercise counseling too. I know I can learn all the material on my own but I do like the structure of a class (I'm a lifelong nerd) but then again do I really need to part with another $400.00 before I even get to taking the actual test.

RE: ACE Certification

Beavs, I did that too. I took an online personal training credit class (specifically for ACE) and then the Exercise Etc. class a few weeks before the exam. It sounds strange but I thought the review class was much more helpful and way cheaper than taking a credit class. Looking back, I'm glad I took the credit class because it did help me get into my Master's program, but for the PT exam, it was not necessary. Now, if you're taking it for fun, well that's another story.:)

RE: ACE Certification

Thanks Carolyn. I will have to look into the Exercise Etc class which may be a better use of my money. if it is I will owe you a beverage ;-)

RE: ACE Certification

Laura,
One of the books was "A Woman's Book of Strength" I don't recall the others but if you do a search on the Ask Cathe forum you will find them.
