Hi Fit Mommas!

I am so grateful for this forum. So many of my questions are answered and I'm so motivated by all of your workouts.

I had my first son 3 weeks ago by C-section and I am dying to get back into shape. Even though, I worked out all through my pregnancy I still managed to gain 50 pounds. I now have 30 to lose. I thought breastfeeding was supposed to help with weight loss.....so far, it hasn't. ha ha!!

I was wondering if any of you have had a c-section and what it was like getting back to exercising. Were you sore? My doctor advised me to wait the 6 weeks. I'm tempted to begin sooner since I feel great. Have any of you started back sooner? I can't wait to run again. And do abs. Were you able to get back into it easily and what can I expect?

Thanks!!
Angie

Hi Angie -
My daughter was born 2 years ago by c-section. I started doing "serious" workouts about 2 days before the 6-week postpartum mark (I didn't actually see my dr until 7 wks pp). But I was walking with my daughter in the stroller I think starting around 3 wks pp. I think walking first helped get my body back into workout mode.

I remember being a little sore when I started walking but when I started solid workouts, I believe I felt ok.

With abs, it took me about 12 weeks to be able to do a reverse curl (my dr told me it would take that long and he was right). My abs are stronger now than before I got pregnant. But don't expect overnight results. Be patient with your body and consistent with your training. I didn't pressure myself too much to lose the weight (I gained 44 lbs) but I kept at it. The day after my daughter turned 9 months old I achieved my weight loss goal. You'll get to yours, too.

Enjoy getting back to the workouts!

I had 2 c/s and one VBAC. I started walking a little at 2-3 weeks, then moved on to lower, super easy workouts (like Low Impact Step, Basic Step, etc) at about 3 weeks, then moved up to the higher instensity stuff at about 4-5 weeks. I had no patience for the 6 week rule.
