? about 6" vs. 8" step

I've recently started doing some of my workouts on 8 instead of 6 inch step. I felt like I needed to challenge myself more and definately feel that the increase does the trick. But here is my question: Does the increase in heighth build more muscle in the legs or just increase the heart rate to intensify the workout?

Hi.

The increase definately works the legs more thereby possibly increasing muscle if you are prone to that. Not everyone builds muscle the same way or at the same rate. Some say stepping slims thier legs down, others say it bulks them up. You'll really have to pay attention and see what the increase does for you personally. I have never found stepping to put bulk on me but heavy weights DEFINATELY bulk me up in the legs.

I would say you just need to see for yourself. I used to use a 10":eek: step then about 3 years ago my husband built me a 7inch. I wanted something larger than a 6 and not an 8! :) Since going to a shorter one it has made my legs a bit smaller. You may want to just switch between the 2 heights if you can! Susan
