I did this last night--it was a 30 minute class w/a body bar. The instructor's been bugging me to take his class for months. I walked out of there thinking well, that was way too easy. I figured this morning I'd be sore just b/c I worked the muscles in a different way. Wrong. I don't feel a darn thing, except in my shoulders b/c we also did pushups in the middle of the class (I know, you're probably asking the same question I was--why the heck were we doing pushups in an ab class?), which I haven't done in a while. And I had just come off my chest/tri workout--I was thinking jeez I wish I'd known we were gonna do all these pushups, I wouldn't have pushed myself so hard on the chest w/o.
Oh, I do feel it in my hip flexors b/c I never move my lower body when I do abs (this made IMax 2 a little tough this morning LOL). I took an ab class (educational, not exercise) a few years ago & they said whenever you move your legs (roman chair, leg lifts, etc.) the primary muscles you're working are your hip flexors, not your abs. Abs are secondary muscle, so you should spend your time focusing on exercises that work abs as the primary muscle.
I bought Cathe's tape a few weeks ago but haven't tried it yet. However I think I'm trying to make the point that working your abs w/weights is incredibly effective compared to regular crunches & leg lifts. I've been using a weighted ab workout that is much shorter but more intense than what I did last night for about 6-7 years & I still get sore from it, whereas I feel like I wasted 30 minutes of my valuable time last night.
