I agree it's important to be aware of our surroundings at all times, but this is an email hoax.

In this day and age, I tell my daughters if anyone says they need help, you tell them you will call 911. that's it, walk away. I don't care if it's achild or an elderly person, or whoever. You just never know.

I just hate the idea of someone seeing this and using it as an excuse not to help.
It's winter and it's especially easy for older adults to fall now.
I just hate thinking of someone on the ground and nobody helping them, because they think it's a hoax or they think someone else will help.

You know, I completely agree. It's like we are expected to be paralyzed by the fear of someone doing us harm to the point we don't do the humane or kind thing and help someone.
I am always aware of my surroundings and try my best not to put myself in situations that could be harmful, but these emails and stories really get on my nerves.
No offense to the OP.... but I've seen enough of them.
