A new toy for my workout area!

A guy at church had a Nordictrack which he let me have since he never used it.....any suggestions about how to work into it? It's not something you can hop onto like a bike and get used to...I think I need to practise!

Anyone ever read what the potential intensity level of one of these is? I love something I can use when I'm watching my political news shows on TV!

Do those of you who have them use them alot?

I gave mine away after five years. It didn't take me too long--maybe 4 sessions--before I got both the arms and legs going. Start with just the legs and add the arm pulleys later. Yes, you will get a good aerobic workout, but I just found it boring--even though I used to watch The Empire Strikes Back to keep myself going. The other two episodes--Star Wars and The Return of the Jedi just didn't seem to work for me as well.I bought it because my orthopedic surgeon recommended it as low impact and I have osteoarthritis, especially in my knees. But I'm back to high impact--I think because of the glucosamine I have been taking for about 7 months. I like my political shows, too, although I am growing tired of Big Hair on Fox and the Gary Condit scandal. Not sure I could do the Nordic Track while watching them, though, because I like to talk back to the TV and I do a lot of gesturing.

yes, I have a Nordic track and use it occasionally watching my taped Bewitched and I Dream Of Jeanie re-runs. I think it is a nice change.

Thanks for the feedback! I like this one because is FOLDS DOWN, and it's entirely mechanical! I don't go for the computerized stuff that can go "poof"! My Airdyne and this new toy will go on forever, and they can sell it at an auction when they get rid of my stuff after I go to the big workout room in the sky fifty years from now.

Once you get used to the stride it is like riding a bike. If the workout gets to easy you can up the resistance. It builds great butts and hamstrings. I have several old Nordik Trak workouts. Of course most of my workouts are Cathe based. However I will sometimes put on one of those tapes and believe me I feel as if I have been cross country skiing all over the world. I is really great to be in the snow when it is 100 degrees outside. Otherwise, put on some snappy music and take off.

Hi, Honeybunch! Congratulations on your new toy. I deeply regret the fact that NordicTrack, that put out that revolutionary aerobic product, went belly up here in Minnesota and stopped producing them!

I used to have a NordicTrack, and I kind of regret selling mine - I kind of did it to death. The boredom factor mentioned here in this thread is very real.

My suggestion for keeping the boredom at bay is: slide in an exercise video while you're doing it! You'll keep the workout mentality going better that way than watching a political show. Also, you may want to invest in some aerobics music CD's or tapes and use those - you could even design your own steady-state or interval workouts if you get music with varying tempos (faster music = lighter tension on the legs and arms; slower music = heavier tension, et al). I'm a big believer in keeping the mental focus on the exercise, and on YOU, rather than "worldly matters".

Have fun!
