A laundry problem

We get onto such diverse subjects...here's a new one. I did some laundry with cold water and a liquid Dreft, and some of my stuff got purple spots on it. :-( I think it was from a jog bra that had been washed numerous times, but bled this time. I washed it again with Cheer and dry bleach, and the spots didn't come out!!!

Help me! What gets bled spots off of clothes? All you smart people out there, please give me your suggestions!!!! I don't want to throw away my favorite golf shirts!!!!!! :-( I know you'll come through!!!!!!

Oh, I hate it when that happens!!! Unfortunately, those spots are caused by dye and they probably won't come out. the only suggestion I have is to learn from it. I do laundry for my family of 4 so if I have those problems it gets expensive. What I do is seperate and keep all the lights together/ medium colors together/ and darks together. Also, when I get something new and dark, I wash it by itself for several cycles to make sure all the excess dye comes out. Hopefully someone else will have a suggestion for you.

Ug, I know that feeling- its the worst when you open that machine and see a laundry disaster. Well good luck.

You'll have to dye everything purple!
Just kidding, but I don't have a solution for you :-(
Last year I somehow managed to bleach all of my tshirts. It really stunk! Sorry about your disaster...

I'm no Heloise, but I think RIT makes a product that claims to remove dye stains from such "accidents".
It may be another company; not sure.
I'm guessing the longer the stain has to set, the slimmer the chances of removal (and, of course, I'm just reading your post now...)
It may be worth a shot, though.
Good luck,
Michele

Rit dye remover helped lighten similar stains I had when my DH tried to "help" with the laundry and washed my brand new red shirt with jeans (including my favorite CKs!!!) I used rit dye remover and I lightened them up and now all you can see is an extremely faint tint of pink. Also, pick up a dye magnet...you can get them at target or wally world (ok, walmart) and that helps to pick up the dye floating around in the wash!

Hi honeybunch,
Sorry about your washer woes; I too have had some. I don't have a specific remedy, but a great resource book might: Talking Dirty Laundry with the Queen of Clean. I have seen her on many t.v. shows and her tips for all kinds of stain/spot dilemmas are great!!
Good Luck!!

I'll read her book but I'll refrain from inviting her to my house UNLESS she wants to clean it herself!;-)

The Rit did not work :-( I guess the shirts are history. They are both a light color. Luckily I buy 99% of my clothes from resale shops, but STILL! What a large drag!
