A confession ... and a question

L Sass

Cathlete
I confess that I lurk over at VF - yes to read up on other instructors but also to see the level of Cathe bashing that goes on (and I HAVE posted here before about my animosity toward hypocrites, esp folks who sing Cathe praises on these boards and bash her and her crew over there - just a pet peeve of mine, hope I don't get flames over that).

But I honestly have to question ALL of the discussion and the "resentment" or the "put off attitude" about the SPECULATED price of the STS. I mean for goodness sake the announcement was posted 2 days ago and folks over there already have taken themselves out of the possibility of interest due to the high price and unbelievable shipping cost. Not to mention how this program is not something that can fit into their own styles or preferences. That must me one heck of a crystal ball they've got over there.

Ok - sorry to have been catty - long week here too. Happy weekend.

Lorrie,

I totally agree! I lurk as well. It's a public forum and if you say something on one site, you should expect everyone to see it and not "keep what happens there over there."

I hate the bashing of Cathe as well. She, and SNM, are incredible and put out excellent workouts. I am an avid follower and will always appreciate what they put out, whether it fits me or not.

Totally agree with you! Let's wait and see and be excited over this!!

Have a great weekend!!
jane:) :) :)

I'm a member over there, too, and I've been chuckling at the comments. I have no idea what the price will be. If it's too dear, I won't order it. My "too dear" may be different from someone else's. *shrugs* But the speculation over whether Cathe is going to start selling supplements and power bars, like Beach Body is way too much!

Yeah, I lurk over there on occasion. I think since she is such a long standing member of the fitness world, she gets picked apart WAY more (good, bad, & ugly). She just creates a lot of buzz. I find a lot of the commentary rather humorous. I mean, you just can't please everyone.

I don't want to take a pill. Go to Africa, go follow some bushman around. He's being chased by a lion. That's stress. You're not going to find a pygmy on Paxil, I'll tell you that right now.

I'm a member there and I'll tell you what surprises me. I have NO problem with people not liking any workout(including Cathe) and I think VF is great because people can give honest reviews of workouts, both good and bad. What I don't understand is why some people seem like they are just LOOKING for something bad to say, especially about Cathe.

In regards to the new STS, we don't even know that much about it yet but still people are already criticizing the price, the lack of cardio, etc. I mean, once it is out and people have done it I'm all for giving an honest opinion but why criticize now? We don't even have it yet, it hasn't even been filmed, how can anyone be in a position to complain and just write it off as 'an honest opinion?'

This has been really bothering me...so thanks Lorrie for starting this thread.

One thing that was pointed out, and I didn't even really think about it, was that this is the Heavy 3 Day Split that was promised before the Boxing series, so she's right on track with her projects.

I just love the whole " I smell a Beachbody type infomertial" comments and the " this will cost over $200" comments.

My word. Can we maybe wait until they are filmed before we start talking costs???

I wouldn't worry about it. The only bad publicity is no publicity, right?

Diane

P.S. and I post as mtnmom there, just as I do here

I, too, am a lurker at Video fitness and I also had a problem with the hypocrites. It was one of the reasons it took me so long to post here!
Ellen

I don't see what the fuss is about really. Why are you so bothered by this? They are entitled to their opinions and speculation. Their comments may stem from the fact that this is a venture quite unlike any Cathe has done before and they may feel nervous about it. I do. Don't ask me why. I am not particularly enamoured of the STS concept, but that's just me. We all have different ways of pursuing our fitness goals. So much emphasis on weight training and being told exactly what to do and when to do it go against the grain of my personality. The potential cost of the STS system concerns me also. So, I can understand that their comments probably stem from a general sense of misgiving about the entire project. They are allowed to feel what they feel.

You really shouldn't get so bothered about their comments. What skin is it off your nose? You are not Cathe's best friends and she is well able to take care of herself. It's pretty similar to the bashing that all celebrities come face to face with at some point. If you are successful and in the public eye, you get more than your share of publicity, good and bad. It's a fact of life. Another fact is that Cathe doesn't need any of us looking out for her. She's a professional and can do it for herself.

There are bigger things to worry about in this world.

Clare

As I said, I'm not bothered by people not 'liking' Cathe or her workouts. To each his/her own. I also have no problem with someone criticizing Cathe or her workouts. However, in this case people are criticizing SPECULATION.

I think people have been using this thread to express their frustration that some people just can't seem to wait to complain. I know I find it a little confusing that some people are complaining about things that are still unknowns.

And, just as they have a right to express their opinions, I have the right to express mine.

I always look at anything people say on boards as opinions and some like to rile others just for the fun of it.

I agree with pippa that it is pure speculation and when the "bashing" begins before anything is even known, it is only because some like to "cut" others down because they are need to cause conflict.

Ignoring them and going on with those who are more concientious (sp?) is the only way to go.

It bothers me that people will say or act one way on this forum but go to the other one and say and act differently. I don't mind discussion but not bashing.
Ellen

I agree with Ellen. Out of curiosity I went over to VF and really didn't like the energy there for some reason.

Well, I haven't read many of the VF posts, but I never look at the absolute price of a workout. I look at it in terms of value. If I buy something I love, and use it often over many years, it almost always ends up costing me only pennies per use. There is no health club membership I know of that can compare.

Of course, I'm very sympathetic to those who just plain don't have the money, but if the workouts are high quality and you love them, I don't understand the concept of "they're not worth it". From the whole value concept, I've yet to see a great workout that was overpriced.

ETA: And, of course, if you don't even know anything about the workout or the price yet, to be speculating about it is pretty amusing. I couldn't agree more, Lorrie!

When people go into something with closed minds the outcome in never good. If you think its gonna cost to much, then chances are, whatever the cost is...will be to much for these people b/c they have already made up their minds. If they don't think its a weight program they will like...chances are, they won't...again, b/c they have already made up their mind. Why be nervous about it? Who cares? If its not for you...then don't buy it....if its to expensive, then save your money!
Really. Who cares!? Whats all the fuss about?
As for the fact of the lack of cardio. Sure, I wish Cathe were making 10 new cardio workouts but Im not gonna crap on her or SMN just b/c they aren't doing something I want. This is a new program that they have come up with.Im sure they have spent hours comming up with this an will spend many more perfecting it. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Thats all I have to say...Oh and these are the reasons I never go over to VF. I just stay here.

HA! All of Cathes announcements should say " Beware, this may not be for everyone"
Lori:)

Well said Lori. If it's not for you--don't get it! Sometimes, with anonymity, you lose respect; that is, people are more inclined to voice any opinion, respectful or not (not necessarily on this forum, but on many others). My thoughts: to each his own, live and let live, and practice tolerance.

Like you said, you can't always measure value by price.
