Hi Everyone,

I did Slow and Heavy Bis and Tris today. It is amazing how much burn can be achieved when you go slow! I thought for sure one of the weights Cathe chose was going to be too easy for me but I stuck with it because I wanted to see what happens, and I was glad I stuck with her weight!

Jo, have you figured out a rotation yet?

Rachel, how did the workout at the gym pan out for you?

Kim, working in a hospital exposes you to so much, do you just choose not to think about it or do you get used to it? I wonder if I would be disinfeting my hands every five minutes...
DH has to visit hospitals frequently to supervise equipment installs and such, I'm surprised that he does not get sick from going there...
I guess he built up immunity. I remember when I was teaching, I was around kids with bugs all day long and I never got sick. Amazing how that works...
Did you read more in your book? I'm interested to get the next installment...LOL!

Cendrine so you like Slow and Heavy? Are you going to do the other ones this weekend?

Just to let you know that I won't be around for a few days. I'm going shopping:p:p We're close to the American border so it's a big thing to go down south to shop and most items are much cheaper in the USA. I group of coworkers have a organize a bus ( aobut 60 women) to go on a shopping trip the last few years. My sister and I went for the first time last year and we had a blast! This year she couldn't come but my mom is coming and I know lots of people on the bus from work.

We leave really early tomorrow morning and hit Fargo, North Dakota for lunch/shopping then back in the bus and get to Albertville, Minnesota (a big Chelsea outlet centre) by late afternoon. Then Saturday, we're go to IKEA, Mall of America, and Southdale Mall in Minneapolis. Sunday we drive home with a stop in Grand Forks to hit Target, Kohl's and Gordman.

I'm very excited:D:D I'll do my best to help my friends across the border with the recession.

Okay Cendrine, here's your bedtime reading ;)

Chapter 3: Sugar, Fat, and Salt Make Us Eat More Sugar, Fat, and Salt

-To understand how eating promotes more eating, we must first understand the concept of "palatability"
-Palatability does involve taste but it also involves the motivation to pursue that taste. It is the reason we want more.
-Palatability is largely based on how food engages the full range of our senses (temperature, smell, texture). These properties stimulate the appetite instead of genuine hunger so we eat even when our caloric needs are met.
-the most palatable foods contain some combination of sugar, fat and salt
-we have known for a long time that we are born with a preference for sweetness but research into fat didn't happen till the '80's
-they found, that what we like is not sugar alone, but sugar in combination with fat.
-because fat provokes so many different sensations in the mouth, we can't always tell which foods contain the most fat or why we prefer one sugar-fat mixture to another.
-fat and sugar level both influence preference. The art of pleasing the palate is in large part a matter of combining them in optimal amount to make the food palatable.
-there is a 'bliss point" where a food is too sweet, too fatty or too salty.
-but when the mix is right, food becomes more stimulating. Eating foods high in sugar, fat, and salt makes us eat more foods high in sugar, fat and salt. We see this clearly in both animal and human research.
-The author goes through many studies and the conclusion for this chapter is "all of this demonstrates scientifically what most of us know from experience: When offered a varied selection and large portions of high-sugar, high-fat, high-salt foods, many of us will eat them in excissive amounts.

The author of this book is Dr. David Kessler, who was the former U.S. FDA commissioner and the book appears to reviewed very well researched/current studies.

He use Cheesecake Factory as an example alot which is the restaurant we plan to go to in Minneapolis:confused::confused:

Kim,

you have a fun, fun, fun time his weekend! Wow, what an adventure! What are you looking to find or are you going to simply impulse buy? I know I would have to give myself a budget, otherwise I might as well bring a moving truck along...LOL!

I did Slow and heavy back and Chest monday, today I did bis and tris, Saturday I will do legs and shoulders and I'm gonna try some cardio tomorrow that I haven't tried before. I was tempted to do rhythmic step again because I loved it so much but I think I better get to know all workouts first...

Thanks for your summary of the chapter! I know this is why I can never stop chocolate! So howcome dh can just have a nibble and be done for a week and I can finish the whole box and want to go out and buy more the next day? Cheesecake factory is a fun restaurant to eat at! I once went there when I was counting calories and I checked out the website for info. Their 'light' menus have somewhere from 400-500 cals per meal and up. Maybe I should not have told you that, I don't want to spoil your fun!

Anyway, have a great weekend and be prepared to tell us what all you came home with! LOL!
