6 month alumni checkin, Monday

FourAM

Cathlete
I am in a surprisingly good mood for it to be a Monday. I hope it is not just a manic episode:D! I think it might be because I know what needs to be done at work and I think we can finish this week.

It might also have to do with getting my butts and guts dvd back from a friend and getting to do a "new" workout this morning. I have not done that one in a long time. I know it was before we started STS. It is so interesting to go back and do one that you have not done it a while. All Cathe's workouts are so different, the same you know, but different. Thanks for the advice Kim and Cendrine on the Power Max sub. I am thinking it might be some sort of premix on the power hr dvd.

Kim-Vent away. I know how it feels for people to make plans for your life that you just do not have time for. You do not want to hurt their feelings and enjoy the cottage to a point but when a vacation becomes work it is hard to enjoy that.

Cendrine-When is your birthday? We are living similar lives I think. It will be dh and I's 11th anniversary this year too. Dec 31.

I am going to go bust out some work now gals. Have a great day.

Rachel

Hi guys,

Rachel, Butts and Guts is an awesome workout, sure to leave you sore! As good as it is, I don't do it too often....

Congrats on your upcoming 11 years, too, Rachel! My birthday is on the 5th. UPS just sent a tracking thing, the dvd bundles will be here on the 4th! Perfect timing!

Not much else going on here. Doing good, trying not to eat everything in sight ( that time of month) sigh...

I can totally relate! The eating everything in sight thing. Luckily we are working so much I do not have time right now but that is my main cause of weight gain in the winter. We are not working as much and I have a hard time controlling my eating.

I cut my finger pretty good today at work. Now dh has a reason to to chastise me about not being careful:rolleyes: I just went and bandaged up and went right back to work. I felt so tough. If it had been dh he would have had to have me baby him for a good 20 mins:p

I am off to bed. I think for my cardio I will do BM2 tomorrow.

Oh yeah Yay On the bundle getting there a day before your b-day!

Have a great evening

Rachel

Rest day for me! Spending lots of time on the 'puter doing Disney planning:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Cendrine Yay, what a perfect birthday gift! So you're kids understand the German? Is Swiss German different than German? Yes, one sister/BIL helps alot with the cottage but the other not so much. Neither my DH or my BIL are very mechanically inclined and the cottage is quite remote. So if the ride on lawnmower is broken, the boat is leaking gas ,etc. Everything somehow has to be hauled into the city and none of us has a truck. My dad had a big truck and trailer.

Rachael Careful with your finger! Just wondering how you got into the flooring business? Was it your DH's business? Power Max is just a 60 min steady state step aerobic so you could substitute any cardio for it, BM2 cardio would be a good subsitute. You describe our cottage situation perfectly. I feel silly sometimes complaining that we have been given the "gift" of a beautiful waterfront cottage, boat and all the toys. But other the other hand it is a gift that is a lot of responsibility. Many weekends after a long work week I would just rather stay home go to a nearby beach for the afternoon, maybe a movie not drive 1.5 hrs to cut grass, fix whatever, etc.

Kim

Rachel, I'm sorry to hear about your finger! I hope it won't bother you when you are lifting weights! (that is always my worry when I get hurt, can I still work out?) Nothing else will bug me as long as I can still work out...

Body Max2 is such a fun cardio workout! I love the whole workout, but the cardio portion of it is really fun, I love the choreography and the music so much!

Kim, it must be fun to fine tune and plan your vacation! It sounds like you are a planner, like me, I can just picture me spending hours online trying to get as much info as I can and all...:D It should make for a fun vacation! I'm sorry to hear that there is nothing close for your cottage in terms of maintenance... that does put a damper on things, although remote sounds wonderful in every other sense...

German and Swiss German are pretty different. Even within Germany there are a ton of different dialects. It's interesting, history wise there was not a common 'German' through all of Germany until Hitler came along. That's when the 'High German' came into use, mainnly in written/printed form (like all books and newspapers etc were printed in that and instruction in classrooms had to be in that language) But people in different areas still spoke their own dialects among each other.

Switzerland has probably about 20 or so dialects just in the Swiss German department, to say nothing of the french, italian and romansch spoken in other areas.... For the most part swiss German dialects are close enough for us to understand people from other areas of Swiss German speech, there are some differences, though. We discovered that in a funny way in college. In P.E. class the teacher was trying to explain this game to us and used a phrase we didn't understand. So he demonstrated. There were 4 additional terms we came up with among us for the same thing....:D we had people in our class from all over.
Since Swiss German is mainly a spoken language (all signs and most books, all classroom instruction is in High German) kids get exposed to 'High German' at age 7 when they enter 1st grade. So for Swiss people it is relatively easy to pick up High German although most of us have a big fat accent.... But if you have someone from Germany visiting and listening to us speak in our Swiss German dialect, they will have a very hard time to understand anything, because they have not been around. A lot of the words have same or simiar roots, so if you are prone to be gifted in languages you can pick it up quickly.... More info than you asked for, I'm sure.... What can I say, I'm a language geek...

Ds is doing a computer program for learning High German now. It is pretty cool, more like a game it seems to me. It has three lessons in each week and the first it only requies 75% proficiency, the second 80% and the last 85%. Ds was taking his sweet old time today doing it and got very distracted and made some careless mistakes for his first lesson of the week and still managed to finish with 94% ! I never could stand the classmates in my own class who got great grades without even trying! I always had to work for my good grades... I guess ds must have that from dh....:p
