Good Morning to all!

Happy weekend. Today is DH and my anniversary.. 23 years! :) . We will be going out for a nice dinner tonight. I will provide the details tomorrow. Today is a rest day for me so it is "chores" around the house until dinner. Our house has hot water heat with the old fashioned type radiators. We ordered enclosed radiator covers for the 2 in our bedroom and they came in Thursday. They require painting so we will be doing these this weekend. We have home made wood ones on now that came when we bought the house, but they are looking pretty ratty now and since we have put in new rugs etc, I want to spruce up the room.

Josie: 12 miles!! I can't believe it! wow you are really our resident gazelle :) .

Garance: I never heard of this instructor/step workout. very dancy? or straight forward step? I still like Gin Miller LOL!

Linny: good luck with your contest with DD. The prize if you win could be the latest Cathe series! :7 You must stay away from the candy! ( look who's talking! LOL). With Halloween coming I am dreading having that stuff in the house for Trick or Treaters! We do give out tooth brushes to the little kids though.

Who ordered the new series?

Have a great day

Deb;-)

Happy Saturday, All,

So sorry to be away so much, guys. It's been so wild and crazy since I started back on half-days at work that I think I'm looking forward to full days!

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are bad because I have to get across town to the Medical Center (where everything is under construction of course, and, even when that's not the case, the traffic is horrendous because so many people are coming there for the first time and trying to figure out parking, etc.)I have physical therapy for 2 hours. The first hour and 45 minutes the therapist puts me through torture. The last 15 minutes he hooks me up to a TENS unit (is that abbreviation right, Linny?) (anyway, it's pulses of electricity and it feels good) on top of a moist heating pad. He wraps another pad around my neck. Just as I start to fall asleep, my time's up and I have to rush downtown to go to work.

At this point, I'm completely worn out from the therapy, but have a zillion things to do since I can only work 4 hours a day. The work piles up more and more every day, and we're so short-handed that usually no one has time to help me. That's why I don't have much time to post here.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are crazy because I work in the mornings, then submit resumes. I have had a few interviews in the last few days, but haven't heard back and don't expect to from these first ones because neither one pays what I make now. I don't know if I'll find a job or not because of my age, and because what I do is so specialized, but I'm going to try. The way my employer treated me the first week after the accident until I called a lawyer is the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

I promise to try to do better with posting though, and things will definitely get better after the next 2 weeks of this crazy stuff. I hope to resume regular workouts then as well.

Deb, Happy Anniversary! I hope you eat something sinful tonight!

I ordered some protein powder from the Bariatric Advantage website. It's a new brand called Wonder-Slim. I'll give you a taste report. Do any of you use protein powder for shakes, in coffee, etc? If so, what brand tastes good?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Jen:

So glad to see you back here!. I fully understand the physical therapy issues.. I used to go after work and was so tired I wasn't into it. Yours sounds a lot more intense. Does it help afterwards with the pain/movement etc? Sorry to hear that the job is so awful right now. How are they treating you with the half days etc? If you get behind, are they giving you problems? They should be careful after what happened to you.

I use GNC protein powder, and just blend with ice and water each morning. Let us know how this new one is. I will eat something sinful tonight!

Deb

Hi Deb and welcome back Jen!!

Today was my day off, so I slept in (until 7:30; I usually get up at 6:15).

Deb, Petra Kolber I think is intermediate in terms of choreography and she's low impact, which is why I like her. She's also pretty methodical about her instruction. I find Gin Miller to be a little too easy for me, so I get bored with her stuff.

Yep, I ordered Cathe's new series, and I am really looking forward to them. Hope I can use them before I leave on October 24.

Linny, it should be a pretty large crowd for my talk. I am a featured speaker at a big international conference on Sylvia Plath. If you are interested, the site is www.plathsymposium2007.org. The last one was 5 years ago at Indiana University, and I gave a talk there, too. I've been lecturing for years, but I still get a little nervous every time. I gave a lecture at Balliol College, Oxford a couple years ago and I was blown away by how old and revered this place is. I stayed overnight in this little room at the top of a spiral staircase and in the morning, had breakfast in this elaborately wainscoted breakfast room with several Balliol dons. The irony of this conference, though, is that Plath was a Fulbright scholar at Cambridge U. where she met Ted Hughes.

Jen, what kind of specialized work do you do? I know you have mentioned archives. Is it some kind of research? I love working in the archives on Plath (at Smith College and Indiana U.) and Ted Hughes (Emory U. and the British Library). There's just something thrilling for me in working with original manuscripts and letters.

Happy anniversary, Deb! I second the sinful. Josie--maybe--and I would recommend a Manhattan, Maker's Mark bourbon, and straight up.

Confession: Garance is not my real name. I borrowed it from a French actress, Arletty, who plays this character in a great film: Les Enfants du Paradis (dir. Carne-Prevert). I started feeling guilty about hiding behind this handle.

Hi Ladies:
I'm freezing! We went to the lake this morning to pack up the RV and bring it home. It was pretty cold there and I just can't get rid of the chill. The RV is sitting in our yard for now,may have some family sleep in it next weekend. My DH's niece is getting married next weekend so the whole clan will be here.
Deb: Congrats to you and DH! I'm only at little ole 7 years of marriage. I agree with the candy yesterday I did buy some but I made sure its not any of my favorites. I didn't order new dvds, being out of work for awhile I had to watch the moola. I hope you can give me review when you get them.
Jen:Glad to hear you are medically better. Too bad your boss had to be a jerk about the whole thing.I hope you find a great job thats rewarding and fulfilling. I have been taking Designer Protein. It takes pretty good, I usually chug it down in the a.m. I just finished a 2pd. jar of strawberry now I'm working on the chocolate.
Josie: I wish I had have the energy you have. I have been away from the candy corn.
Lynda: I quess I'll be the first to call you your real name, actually mine is Linda but my DH calls me Linny. I will have to check out that Plath website. I hope you have great weather and take some time for fun for yourself.~Linny~

Good Morning!

Today I did the Superset pre-mix of the Gym Style Chest & Tricep.. Very intense! Last night DH and I went to a nice resaurant for our anniversary. I had filet and Alaskan King Crab legs. I wasn't going to have these because of the mess, with cracking etc, but I heard the waitress tell another table that they come cracked and all you have to do it eat them! That's the way I like to eat crab. :9 . Lots of leftover steak as we had stuffed bannana peppers, salad and bread before the dinner so I was already full when it came.

Put one coat of paint on one of the radiator covers.. not fun. Painting metal is not easy. It streaks!

Has anyone read the book called : The Skin Type Solution"? it is by a dermatologist and lets you type your skin to tell you what would work best for age spots, wrinkles and all over look of your sking. I got it out of the library and bid and won the recommended items for my type on Ebay. I can;t wait to start the regime. There was a post about it on the Open forum.. lots of ladies swear by this person's advice! Time will tell..

Today's Menu:
Post Workout: protein drink with ice & water
B: cherrios with strawberries and skim milk
S: yogurt
L: not sure yet
S: triskets & stringster
D: pork tenderloin ( not sure with what yet)
S: WW choc ice cream bar

Lynda:( aka Garance): not sure I can get used to this name change ;-)

Linny: so sad to pack up a summer trailer, or do the yard clean up. I will surely miss the hot days of summer. It is really cool here now.

Have a great day and rest of the weekend!

Deb

Happy Sunday, All,

Deb, I'm so glad you enjoyed your anniversary dinner.

Linny, many thanks for the well-wishes.

garance, or Lynda (which do you prefer?), I say my work is specialized because my career has been in journalism for the past 23 years. Jobs in that field are practically non-existent anymore as newspapers are in very hard times. My job is 2-fold - doing research for our reporters and maintaining text and photo databases for customers, reporters, and photographers.

We had our first taste of fall this weekend with low humidity and high temperatures only in the 80s. From now until mid-April is a great time to be in Houston!

Have a wonderful day,
Jen

Hi Deb, Jen, Linny, Josie--

I did the High Step Challenge this morning (68 min.). I have to modify about 25% to eliminate some of the impact and I do the easier pushups.

Oh, I love to go by Garance. If you knew the character, you'd know why. All of the male characters love her because she's so charismatic and truthful. The actress, Arletty, also has this very distinctive voice. I'm just a movie buff.

Deb, I saw your posting about the skin book over at the Open Forum. I started using sunscreen when it was still unknown because I had a nutty boyfriend who convinced me to wear it. In the olden days, it stained everything, so I must have been pretty convinced--or equally nutty. I have been using retin-a since my late 30s and it also works well for me. I started it when I began to have acne, and it took some time to get over the sun-sensitivity, but I know it has saved me some wrinkles and pigmentation--I really don't have any age spots on my face yet. I also love a couple of the Murad products--the Essential C renewal complex which seems to have an instant silky effect and I wear it under makeup. I also put his essential-c eye cream on after my morning shower and Idebenol, another product I love and put on immediately after my shower. I will be interested to know how you do with your new regimen.

Tonight we are having DH's parents over for dinner before they head to Florida for the winter. Standing rib roast, mashed Yukon gold potatoes, gravy, mushrooms in a wine-cream sauce, haricots verts, and a green salad. Parfaits for dessert. I will have to be careful on my portion sizes.

Jen, I have a very good friend who was the Russian bureau chief for the Baltimore Sun before it was sold--to its ruination, according to him. He has since moved on to the Washington bureau for the NYTimes and loves working for what is probably the best paper in the U.S. He does investigative reporting now and did several stories on the whole Valerie Plame mess. Good luck in your job search!

Back to work here. Have a great Sunday everyone!
