50 and over week of November 22 check in

Good morning,

Just getting us started.

The only nuts I keep around are raw unsalted almonds in the freezer. From Cathe's nutrition site I got used to eating about 15 per day to make sure I get a lot of vit and minerals. It surprising how good for you they are. I couldn't keep away from salty nuts but I only eat 4 or 5 almonds at a time.

"The end of over eating. Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite" by David A. Kessler is the book I'm reading now from the library.
It's fascinating to read how the restaurant industry has found the perfect combination of fat, salt and sugar to make food addictive. The author is a former FDA commisioner. Unfortunately there are not many ways to take control. You have to use methods of other addicts to stay away from that kind of food. He didn't say it in his book but I think you would have to go back to cooking. Horrors! No package or frozen food either.

Good evening, everyone!

Joan, that's an interesting theory. I've also always read that the portion sizes in restaurants are ridiculously larger than they need to be. (Look at the size of muffins in bake shops these days!) I don't doubt that. On the rare occasions we eat out, I end up bringing about two-thirds of my food home. I really got tired of eating out a while back. DH and I both love to cook, so we take turns. I think it's therapy for him, and it's just something I have always enjoyed doing. (I'm basically a country girl and my cousins are Home Ec. teachers).

Anyway, active rest week over tomorrow. On to Mesocycle 3!

Everyone have a great night!

Magnolia

Joan/Magnolia , that is interesting. I am a terrible cook. We eat out more than we should. I have been trying to cook more at home these days. It's tough though. I have no imagination. I fixed Salmon for the first time in my life last week! I should find some type of cooking class.

Walked on the treadmill Saturday, yesterday I did pretty much nothing. I felt tired and went with that.
Today will be some type of weights...

Have a good one!

Good morning, everyone!

I just finished Disc 25. I am really enjoying these workouts. When this mesocycle is finished, though, I think I'm going to concentrate on cardio a little more.

Class this afternoon and another paper due next week! Then I'm finished with the course.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Hi Jann, Magnolia and Joan!

I have returned from my October twilight zone! I swear, every year in October, my whole workout/eating/life with kids goes way off of what it was the previous month(s) and I find myself trying to get straightened out before the holidays get going. I've a few false starts with my workouts this month, but I'm finally on a rest day after a consistent 5 days of workouts and I feel good to have done SOMETHING! I started with a treadmill workout, then I went on to tackle LIS - I always forget how tough I find that one to be. Next day was Pyramid Lower Body (also torture - those floor moves with the stability ball, YIKES!). Then I did the Basic Step workout from Total Body Sculpting series. And yesterday was Pyramid Upper Body - and I, too, was having an out of body experience along with Cathe. Because I took so much time off from working out, I am back to zero with my weights. The rotation I'm following is Cathe's Intermediate Rotation, and I'll be doing Cardio & Weights tomorrow. I've also been doing some Ana Caban Pilates in addition to these. I'm really excited, because I feel the desire to get my workouts in again. (Yeay, let's hope I can keep this up.)

I'm going to try and log back on later tonight to see what everybody's been up to.

Happy Monday,

Hi Tricia, Jann, Magnolia and all those to come later,

Tricia I posted during October but I didn't do much. Maybe it's just the month.

I used Drill Max premix 1 as the warm up to STS disc 25. I decided to start Meso 3 on time and forget about Meso 2.

My arms are dead. Why am I surprised?

"Official weigh in" down 1/2lb. If only we could forget this weekend eating, I was down 2lbs on Friday.

Calories eaten today-1200. I really need to look at what I ate over the holidays last year. I didn't gain on the holiday weeks and I lost the rest of the month.

Joan

I really hate to cook but started doing it more after I retired from my full time job. I was on a clean eating kick for a while but decided it was a lot of work and there was a 50-50 chance that anything I cooked was tolerable. So I'm back to cooking things that are really easy (I.e. premade stuff) but we have cut down tremendously on take-outs and eating out. I agree that portion sizes at resturants are huge...almost a serving for 3-4 people. At home I purposely use the small dessert plates and serve out correct portion sizes for both my husband and myself.

This week I'm still doing a FIRM rotation and will most likely contintue to do this until Shock Cardio comes out. At least I'll be doing workouts I haven't done in awhile. Yesterday I did Cardio Inferno and decided I really don't like this one...it's boring. I seem to be more inspired to do my workouts than I have been in the last 3 weeks which is good with the holidays in the very near future. All those lunges and squats will guarentee that I will continue to fit in my size 6P pants. (I'm only 5'1" and went down 4 pants sizes when I started my fitness journey). I'm afraid if I stop, I'll poof out.

Good Morning, Everyone!

Just a quick check in before I have to start writing. That's right. I now have a no-more-than-7-pages position paper due, and I am finished with this course. YAY! :D Anyway, I am sticking to the STS rotation, but might have to skip the days in between to get this puppy finished.

Jann, I am horrible at cooking fish! (except shrimp) It always comes out over done. Everything else usually turns out okay. Anyway, don't feel too bad about the salmon--I think cooking fish is tricky.

Tricia, I know how that feels. Keeping up with this STS rotation has kept me pretty much on track, but trying to wrap up course work pretty well knocks me off that track in between. As a result, my aerobic capacity has slipped, so I need to get back into serious cardio conditioning as soon as this paper is finished.

I can also get my house cleaned up! It's starting to look like the Wreck of the Hesperus! As I usually say at the end of a course, I'll need to take a fire hose and a rake to my living room!

Joan, I'm impressed! Two workouts in one day! Wow!

Hope you all have a super day!

hi all, gearing up for the big turkey day? we have a big family reunion in central texas at the stewart family farm. been going since our son was 5, and now we get to take the grandkids. so fun. they have a great-grandpa, and a great- great-great uncle + lots of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, cousins, or however it goes. when we started going back in teh early 80's, all my son's great-great aunts and uncles were still alive , except one that died very young. the last of the great-great-great aunts passed a couple yrs. ago. it has been sad to lose them all the last few yrs. my husbands family live very long lives. most of them were in their 90's when they passed. it is so mych fun. we used to hear all the storeies of when they grew up on the farm, (where my fil lives now), and working in the cotten fields, slaughtering hogs, the whole bit. miss seeing them now. but, they wrote severla family geneology books, so at least the stories are preserved.

anyway, sorry to be so long-winded, but someone asked me what i did for thanksgiving. can't remember who.
ya'll have a great and blessed THANKSGIVING.!

Good evening all,

Magnolia I know how you feel. If I get my work in and exercise it doesn't seem like there is time for anything else.

No nap for Elliot today. She was very unhappy about everything.

Ds got in from Portland tonight. Visiting instead of wo.

Tomorrow I bake pies.

Joan

Hi, Y'All!

Cathy, your family reunion sounds fantastic! I just love stuff like that! I hope you have a wonderful day!

Well, I am cooling down, having just finished Disc 26, my first try with plyo legs. I was afraid of this workout, but really wanted to try it to see whether I liked it and if I could actually do it. But I surprised myself. :) Oh, I had to take the maximum modifications on several of the plyo moves, but I was able to do almost all of them, even keeping up with Cathe on a few (a very few)!

Wishing all of you a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!

my exercise friends!

Magnolia my favorite Plyo leg w/o is the second weeks... I looked forward to doing them!

Joan enjoy your time with your son! Some of my best times on earth are when my kids are visiting.

No real workout today. Went to see New Moon again with my DIL it's her birthday! :D

Happy Thanksgiving,

I just finished making a coconut cream pie, lemon meringue pie and 2 pumpkin pies. My ds stayed up to keep me company and talk.

I used 2112 calories Wednesday. That was the most in 2 weeks. Two trips to grocery store. Turkey's were 34 cents per pound and I wanted to get 2, one for Christmas and one for my brother.

We had ham, potato salad, broccoli salad and blueberry pie for dinner. I think I got carried away with pies this year.

The repairman came but cost to repair treadmill is more than a new one. I know what my early Christmas present is going to be.

Good evening, Ladies!

I know that many of you love the Firm exercise videos. I am a long-time "firm believer" myself. I am not sure how many of you know that The Firm comes from an exercise studio that started out as "The Body Firm" in Columbia, South Carolina. The Firm was founded by sisters Anna and Cynthia Benson. Sadly, this past Monday, Anna Benson passed away as a result of a recently diagnosed cancer, and she was only 59. I think she was a great lady. If you ever had a question about one of her videos, you could email Fitness Favorites, and Anna would answer personally. I admired her a whole lot. I feel as if I lost a personal friend. Anyway, just thought you would like to know.

Good evening ladies,

We had a great Thanksgiving. I didn't do too bad on the food yesterday. It was probably worse today. I just keep picking at it. Ds left at about 4pm today, but we had some nice long conversations.

At least the Friday sales were good for something. I was able to get a new treadmill for a pretty good price. Unfortunately it will be a week until I get it. I NEED it now.:D

I hope everyone(including me) will get back to exercising tomorrow.

Joan

Happy Black Saturday!

I am going to try to get back to it today. I also did ok on Thanksgiving but ate all day yesterday on the leftover pies. Woke up last night with my stomach resenting it!!

Good catch on the treadmill Joan! A much needed item!

Magnolia, I didn't hear about Anna Benson. I still have those original firm vhs tapes. I used them religiously to take of baby weight back in the 80's. That is sad!

Cathy, your family Thanksgiving sounds like fun!

Hi to Jann, Tricia and everyone!

Beth

hi all, we had a fabulous thankgiving. hope ya'll did too! however, today i am either very tired or i'm getting sick. my granddaughter got sick yesterday and now has a temp of 102, so i may be gettin' it. gonna rest and may be workout later. did not w/out thurs. and was outside w/kids and horses all day yesterday. so, gonna try later after i rest. will be back to read all posts later.

Hi, Everybody!

Cathy, I think outside activity with kids and horses sounds like a workout to me!

Beth, Anna had been in the process of putting all those old VHS workouts on DVDs that are chaptered. I have managed to collect all the original volumes plus Tortoise and Hare on DVD over the past year or so. The only one that's not available is Volume 5 (my favorite), but her son Byrd said that she was very clear with him during her last days that she wanted the project finished. He says that he and a group of others are dedicated to respecting this last wish.

I was very good on Thanksgiving, except for the appetizers my mil made. They were too good! If only she hadn't had those sugared pecans, I could have gotten away unscathed! Otherwise, I only made one casserole to contribute, and we went to their apartment, so it was easier for me not to over indulge.

I just finished and turned in my last paper for the course I've been taking. YAY!!!!!!!!:D DH is taking me out to dinner this evening to celebrate.

Have a great evening, all.

Magnolia

Back again!

I am feeling much better , because I just finished Disc 27. Anyway, time to get washed up and ready to go out.

Have a great weekend!
