50 and over week of July 12

Cathlete
I'm back.

I am ready to start lifting. I did a lot of walking in Portland along with cleaning and painting. Since Chris had to fly to LA to work on a photo shoot, we went to Las Vegas on Wednesday and just got back home.

I think I will need to add a lot of cardio to lose weight. My lifting "heavy" is only heavy for me.

I will catch up reading last week and get back to you tomorrow.

Sure was quiet around here!

Tricia sounds like a great weekend!

Well, we may not be going on vacation again this week. DH is really sick, fever, coughing, sore throat :( ... I am hoping its nothing more than a real bad cold -- we will know later today.

So I am going to start meso 3 with disc 25..... why not? ;)

Are you guys doing Plyo legs or squat legs?

Hi, Y'all!

Joan, glad you're back. We missed you!

Jann, that is the cutest Smilie I've seen! Where did you find it? Sorry about your hubby. I also hope it's only a cold.

Tricia, sounds like you had a great weekend.

Beth and Cathy, hope all is well with you.

I am on the last week of Burn Phase, but I am thinking I need to add more cardio and change some of my food habits. I'm getting a lot stronger, and now my energy level is much better than last week, even, but it would be nice to lose some weight! Anyhow, I'm working on it.

Have a great day, everyone!

Magnolia

where do ya'll find all those smilies? they are so cool. i always do the quik reply, where else do you go to reply?

Hi Everybody!

Yes, it was a great weekend, my DH is the best for coming up with such fun things for us to do with the Kids. I'm going to attempt to post the pic of us coming up the hill.

Did Disc #25 today and felt really strong! Did all my weights at the recommended number, and even went up a few pounds on some of them. Only chest flies were feeling a bit too heavy (30 pounds when it called for 28).

I gotta tell you all what my 6 year old said the other day. Now, if you'll remember she is the same one who told me after a day of wretched sickness for all, "I just want to tell you again Mommy, HAPPY MOTHER"S DAY!". Well, she heard me telling DH about how if I can just lose this pooch I'll be satisfied. Lo and behold, she saw a commercial for the new Ab Circle Pro (Maybe you've seen this? It get's rid of those nasty love handles! Cardio and abdominal conditioning at the same time!) Anyway, I walked out into the living room and she turned to me, bright and shining face beaming and said "Mommy, you've GOT to buy this - in just two short weeks, you could have the stomach you always dreamed of!" I ask you, how do you a.) keep a straight face and b.) not buy the darn thing in the face of all that earnest hopefulness??? My DH lost it completely in the kitchen, while I struggled to look her in the face and say "You are so right, Bella - what a great idea!".

Just thought you'd all get a kick out of that - I'm off to bed so I can tackle the love to hate it Drillmax Cardio Blast tomorrow!

Goodnight, all!

Hi ladies,

Tricia, what a cutie and a fun way to exercise.

Jann I need to see both leg discs to decide on legs. Hope dh gets well soon. Of course by then you will get it.

Magnolia I'm with you with changing eating habits. I really need to get serious. Less than a month to reunion.

I just finished first disc in meso 3. I increased almost all weights by two lbs. Of course I thought I had increased by 1 lb but didn't count correctly. I think I could have gone even heavier but will save that for next round of sts.

Still haven't got around to cathcing up with postings. I babysat all day and then had work to do. I almost didn't get wo in.

Joan

Trica what a great picture and I agree with Joan a great way to exercise! :D How sweet of Bella to be thinking of you. Kids. :D

Joan I can't decide which I wanna do Plyo or squat. I feel like Plyo is going to be hard on the ol'knees and squat rack looks h e a v y . I guess I'll decide on Wednesday.

Magnolia I got that one from http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys_feelings.html I use a couple of different places.

Well, we are not going on vacation. :( Hubby is Very sick. He has to go back in today and get more tests. The good news it does not appear to be an infection on his heart. :) They are testing for flu's. I hope I don't get it...

I did Disc 25 meso 3 yesterday. Gesh I thought 20 pounds for chest flys was good... ;) Great job Tricia! My 1RM's seem to be pretty good for me on this one. The hardest thing for me was getting the barbell back on the rack going from rows to press's. :p

Good afternoon all,

Jann I wasn't going to post yet. Just looking up what wo is scheduled today. My chest fly was 19lbs and probably could do 20lbs.( haven't moved that dumbbell into room yet.) I think we're doing great. That was a 25% increase from my previous lifting.

Joan

Good evening everybody,

I didn't get to do today's workout, I took the kids to a friend's farm to see what it's like to take care of chickens, sheep, pigs, goats and the family pets, too! Then we spent the afternoon swimming - so I'm counting 3 1/2 hours at the pool as my cardio!! No abs, but I'm okay with that today.

Jann, I have the same problem with manuevering (sp) my barbell for this heavy amount of weight going from chest press to rows. I think I'll count just getting into position as my first rep and be done with it!! I hope your hubby feels better soon, that is no fun! We've had enough sickness run through the clan this spring/summer and I know you hate to see him dealing with that.

Joan, I am definitely doing the Plyo Legs for this round. Squat rack looks intense to me, and also I want that cardio factor to help blast some fat!! I'm counting on Plyo Legs to do it for me. (Not sure how happy my ankle will be, but I'll take it's feedback and suggestions!).

Magnolia, I also agree with you about the eating situation. I think if I crack down and just pay attention, I'll do much better this Mesocycle. It sure can't hurt, right?

Hi Beth and Cathy, hope your having a great week!

See you all tomorrow - plyo legs, heeheeheee!!

hi ya'll, well, yeah, i feel better today. no workout, though, the grandkids came over and we rode this monrning and my granddaughter and i went for a hike down the creek, (no water in it, too dry), and wandered thru the bamboo forest and then, she got in the water trough to cool off. by that time i was sweatin' bad. so, this was a nice day off. it is nice to just relax. i'm sure i'll workout tomorrow, do a cardio. i just got my new cathe bands and a new stability ball, that was supposed to be cherry red, but it sure looks pink to me. i hate PINK!!! i already have a pink one, i want a red one. so, i emailed them and told them i don't think it is red and i didn't get the foot pump w/it either. i hope they get back to me. have you ever ordered anything from cathe?
cathy

Hi, Y'all!

Tricia, what a great picture! Your daughter is adorable.

Jann, so sorry about the vacation, I just hope that your husband gets well soon, and that you don't get whatever he has. Thanks for the link.

Joan, I guess I have just decided that every time of the year has its pitfalls when we are trying to choose healthier foods. My nephew and his family were in NYC over the weekend. His brother already lives here (he's a working actor), so they all wanted to get together for pizza. We went to Little Italy, a bad place for me--I love Italian food! ;) My favorite restaurant there is Ferarra's, which is a fancy pastry place. Unfortunately, we went there, too. Well, I have worked out a little harder and been a bit more choosy since then, anyway.

I did Basic Step today and Stability Ball Abs on the same disc. I have Burn Circuit 2 tomorrow. I have been raising my weights the last two times, and actually, I have been feeling pretty good lately, was tired all the time for a while there, but these last few days have been loads better.

Beth and Cathy, hope everything is going well for y'all.

Have a great night!

Magnolia

Hi Everyone!

We are on vacation in the mountains playing alot of tennis, hiking, and believe it or not- I brought my workout printout with me!!

Jann- sorry to hear about your trip and your husband. It's scary when the man in the family gets sick. I hope he is alright.
Joan- glad you are back and had a good time. I need to get serious (again) too about the diet- I have had a craving for dark chocolate lately. And by the way- who is dissing the 20 pound flies? That's what I did and it took me 3 months to get there! andddddd...I felt like superwoman!

Tricia- what a cutie pie!! I sure miss those days! When my kids were that age- it was hard to find time to exercise- so you are doing great!

Magnolia- are you going to do the sts after the burn cycle?

I absolutely loved plyo legs- you really feel energized with that one- I would suggest giving it a try. Have a good evening- beth

Hi Jann, Beth Tricia, Cathy and Magnolia,

Beth, I didn't want Jann to feel bad about 20lbs. Although I don't think she really was. We were just impressed that Tricia could use 35lbs. And I can't count again. Going from 15lbs to 20lbs was 1/3 more for me not 25%. You took wo on vacation? That's great. I only thought about wo even though all the hotels had a gym.

Cathy I have only bought dvd's except for the tower.

Magnolia, I never count good food that I love as cheating. As long as it's not every day. I hate when I waste calories on something that wasn't even that good. If I could only get a handle on portion sizes.

I did 2 miles on treadmill and DM premix 1. I still need to do abs. I think I will preview both leg discs.

Joan

YEOW!!!! i am beat. i did 60m. of aerobics, it was actually like a circuit , i guess. cardio segment, lite wt. segment. did 3 of each, and then added 7m. of boot camp drills that i found online. great workout! but, i got so shaky in the middle of it i had to stop and eat half a banana. ???? what is up w/that?

Hi, Y'all.

Beth, I'm planning to start STS in the fall, when my course is finished and I am just a little stronger. The workouts in CLX are shorter than the STS ones, and budgeting my time is tough right now. I know I need to get up earlier, but I have been so tired lately, and I am pushing myself pretty hard.

Cathy, I have also only ordered DVDs from Cathe, except for a pair of replacement risers for my step (the original ones got lost somehow), but I was pretty happy with them. Anyway, good luck--hope you get your red stability ball.

I did Burn Circuit 2 this morning, always a killer ! Anyway, it's only 38 min. long, so at least the pain and the muscle shaking are over with pretty quickly. I have really been tired today after that.

Tricia, 35 lbs.? My muscles are shaking just thinking about that!

Jann, how was Harry Potter?

Hi, Joan, the food was certainly worth it! Anyway, we only live once, so why not once in a while indulge.

Y'all all have a great evening!

Magnolia

Dark Chocolate Craving?

Hi, Y'all,

Just thought about something Beth wrote the other day. Maybe you would all want to know, if you don't already.

Beth, you said you were having a little craving for dark chocolate? Anyway, there are several ways you can satisfy it without messing up your calories--Jello makes those little sugar free puddings that you can get in the grocery store, and they have a dark chocolate which is only 60 calories per cup. It's good, too. My DH and I keep it around. Also, if you can find "Skinny Cow" where you are, they have these great ice cream truffle bars that are only about 120 calories each, and a few other ice cream products that aren't too bad--lots have chocolate.

I'm a big-time chocoholic;), so ask me, I can tell you.

Have a great evening!

Magnolia

Good Morning, Ladies!

I worked out so late yesterday/last night (started at 9:30!), that I didn't have the energy to log on and tell you about it! I did Plyo Legs, and I must say - WOOHOO! I haven't had that feeling since high school, when it's the first week of basketball practice and they run you till you're sick! (But in a good way, ya know?) So I can relate to your workout, Cathy, of having that shaky feeling midworkout. There's nothing wrong with it, as long as you listen to your body - like you did by stopping to fuel up!

You know, Magnolia - my muscles were definitely shaking with the 35 lbs.! I'm a little flabbergasted to see the weights noted on my workout sheets, too. I remember buying my first pair of 8 lb. weights because the 5's weren't doing it anymore. I was sure I'd never really use them! (Now I rarely get to, but for a good reason!) I get a little overwhelmed to think how far I've gone with Cathe from the Wedding Video to STS. She's been my instructor through it all! Aren't we lucky?

Now, Jann - you must give me a Harry Potter update - don't tell me what happens, I just want to know if you liked/loved/hated it and how scary was it? My kids want to see it, but I always watch them first (usually after they're on DVD). They've not seen two of them because of the scary factor. But it would give me and DH a good reason to go to the movies!

Oh, and I want to second the Skinny Cow recommendation! WE love those here, even my kids. They'll pass up a bowl of ice cream for a Skinny Cow Truffle bar. And I'm also a chocolate lover, so they get my stamp of approval. Yum-o!

Well, I'm going to jump off here and do a little hot spot firedrill before DH gets back from his out of town install job (last one for this project, yeahy!).

BBL to log in todays workout - I'm serious about sticking to the rest of the schedule this week! TTFN,

Tricia first have you read the book? If so, then be prepared to be a little disappointed in the movie although this movie did stay pretty accurate to the book just not enough of it. As movies go, it was ok. It tells the next story. I took my Son, his girlfriend and my daughter in law. My DIL has not read the books. Her feelings were there were things in the movie that didn’t make since and we ended up filling in the blanks over dinner. It could have been also we were talking about so many missing pieces that she just had a lot of questions. Scary – no, I don’t think it was scary but, I don’t want to spoil it for you but, the end could be considered very unhappy and you will have some explaining to do. I guess I would say I liked it… these characters have been a part of our lives for some 10+ years. My youngest DS now 23 started reading these books when he was 12.

Another Skinny Cow lover here. I am a BIG chocolate eater. (not just lover;))

Magnolia I plan to do STS over. I think I am going to wait on STS cardio and try to do them together if that’s what we are supposed to do. I REALLY love these workouts.

Tricia I hear ya on plyo legs :eek: OMgosh! I was sweating like crazy. When Cathe said “try not to take breaks, try to keep up.” I had to gasp. I did take a couple of breaks when I thought my heart was going to burst right out of my chest. How did she know?

Joan High five on the 20’s!! Start dragging them in to your workout space…. !!

Beth sounds like a great vacation! Does your husband play tennis?

Cardio day for me -- I haven’t done anything yet. Plan to let lunch settle then get busy.

Good afternoon,

I did plyo legs disc 26 last night. I will admit to 2 pauses. It was much better than I was afraid of -only some modifications. Knees hurt less than prior leg days.

I'm ready for second round of sts whenever you are Magnolia. I've ordered sts cardio but am ok with current cardio. If you're waiting until fall I think I will do more cardio and just enough lifting to keep muscles.
I love sts and think it was my best purchase.

I bought the e book Burn the Fat and Feed the Muscle a couple of months ago. Today they sent me 5 more books. They are pretty interesting on goal setting. Tom Venuto seems to believe that setting the goal is the most important thing in losing the weight. You have to believe you will succeed for you to take the actions you need to succeed. One of the books was on semantics. Because multiple meanings and ambiguity of words can confuse your non-conscious mind you should be precise with your goals. For example you should say I want to discard unwanted body fat. Because nobody wants to be a loser. I think I will at least try it. You are to set short term and longer term goals. And phrase them positively. Oops, you're not supposed to try. As Yoda said do or do not there is no try.

I've never read or seen Harry Potter.

Joan
