50 and over week of Jan 18 check-in

Good evening everyone,

Sorry to see you leave Tina. Come and visit anytime. I need to post everyday to keep up with this diet, but nobody cares how often anyone else posts.

I did GS Back, Shoulders and Biceps.

I looked at newleaf and our hospital was on list. Do you really think testing helped? I'd really like to know if my walking is enough to burn enough fat.

Joan

Tina - :( I understand. Life can really go in so many directions. Stop in and say HI if you get a chance. Stay healthy!

Joan I found the newleaf information printouts very helpful. I found I did not have to work out like a crazy person to get the same results. I like knowing when my body is burning the most calories and how many calories I burn daily just breathing. My friend had hers done by a group where she was given a booklet all her prints outs and had a counselor for the same price I was charged. I got my print outs and was talked to about diet and exercise for about 15 minutes. (most of what I already new) I was a bit disappointed. Check into what information is provided with the test. Each place is different.
I plan to have it done again at a different place when I am completely back on my feet. I contacted newleaf about what I should be given and they told me it’s up to the individual site. They just supply the software.

Good Afternoon,

Got wo in early.:D I did 5 miles on treadmill. Jann, since I am walking relatively slowly I think I would like to know if I'm wasting my time. Maybe for now 2.5mi per hour is enough to lose weight. I feel like if I weighed less my knees could take a faster pace.

I may make Thursday official weigh in day. I was 165 this morning. :D One pound down from a week ago Monday. (2 1/2 lb from Tuesday) That had to be water weight but it is very frustrating.

Today was in the 50's. I got mammogram and then took mother out to lunch.

Magnolia, I have 3 of the biggest loser dvd's, but they are a waste of money. I have 2 Jillian dvd's that aren't to bad but she is terrible in biggest loser dvd. Light weights with bad form. I have some of the old firm tapes but I never could do them, my joints couldn't take high rep with even light weights. I have several Leslie Sansone I get tired of her but many times just do her moves to Cathe's step dvd's.

I am getting very excited about sts. I just hope it lives up to my expectations. My schedule should be ok for dvd's 3 times a week but I'm not sure I can do more that that after Feb 1.

Joan

Joan I so glad that water weight is gone! Our bodies just really like to mess with us! ;) 5 miles is awesome!

I was surprised when my number was 115. I was always trying to hit 130 - no need to. :D I wear a heart rate monitor with every type of workout.

I am taking a much needed rest day today.

Good morning, Ladies!

Joan, I wondered about those Biggest Loser DVDs. Thanks for the info. We live in a small house with limited storage, so I am trying to be more selective about my DVD purchases (even though it's tough!) But I am really addicted to Cathe's videos as well as Anna Benson's. I generally see better results from them.

Jann, I think using a heart monitor is a terrific idea. I'm considering doing that. I have a pretty good feel for whether I'm pushing the envelope during cardio or not, but I think it would be good to be sure exactly whether I'm really working at the correct level.

Tina, I hope you will let us hear from you sometimes. Please stay healthy.

I was not able to check in yesterday--it was a very busy day. I do some work for my DH's auction business, usually legal ads for the papers, and there was some of that as well as a choir rehearsal. So instead of using my last years' excuse to goof off, I got up early and did Hi Def Sculpt Express with medium to slightly heavier weights. Not real challenging, but it was about all I had time for, and I figure that something is always better than nothing if it's not a rest day. Today I did all of Basic Step on the 8 inch step (YAY!). I did weigh the other day, and it was not quite as bad as I thought (157 lbs.).

Stay well, and have a great day!

Magnolia

Good Afternoon Jann, Magnolia, Bev and Pauline, ( and bigsal where ever you are)
Magnolia great work in doing something. I know what you mean about missing wo. It's easy to find a reason to not wo. I haven't heard of Anna Benson. What type of wo is it?

Jann How's the wedding planning going? Is your son very involved with this? Or does he care?

I am back to my midnight wo. I did Cathe's low impact step with lots of modifications.

I want to try eating at Red Robin. I have never eaten there but in another thread someone said they were going there and they had nutrition info on web site. It's not obvious, but under customizing your meal you can put in exactly what you are ordering and it will give you all the nutrition info.
I put in hamb. and by taking off relish, onion and mayo. the calories were about 200 less.

I've never eaten at Outback Steakhouse but they are supposed to have the worst meal to eat according to the author of "Eat This not That." I was surprised to find out it was the salmon. It was 1640 calories. It probably wasn't the highest calories in the U.S., but it was the most misleading. And that was without any sides.

Tonight is our regular Friday night out. I eat the same meal each week so I know the calories.

Have a good weekend,

Joan

Hi, everyone.

Anna Benson created all the original Firm workouts from about 1985 until 2001, when she and her sister Cynthia sold The Firm. Anna also created all the Fit Prime and Kick Butt workouts (Women's Health and Fitness Network) and currently has a website. If you own any of the original Firms from before 2001, then you already know about her workouts. The Fit Prime and Kick Butt wo's combine cardio, weights, pilates and yoga. Many of them use a high step, though, which could be rough on knees.

I'm surprised about the salmon at Outback! Wow. Maybe that sauce they serve with it adds a lot of calories & fat. I used to get the grilled salmon, but didn't care for the sauce so I never ate it (it was served on the side). When I eat out, I often eat only about half the meal or so and get the rest to go for lunch the next day.

Hope you enjoyed your meal out. If you tried Red Robin (is that the correct name?), please let me know how you liked it. My DH and I are curious and would like to try it sometime.

Have a great night!

Magnolia

Joan The wedding is coming along nicely. Jeremy is very much involved. Actually we all are. It’s been a lot of fun. I have two boys and I didn’t think I would ever have the chance to be this involved in planning my kids wedding. Her family has been very kind in including me. My biggest fear is looking fat in the pictures. I am triangular shaped so I always take a bad picture. :( Working on that upper body! Speaking of pictures. I took my before one. I had it posted but took it off. How's yours coming along?

I wanted to say “high five” on getting that mammogram! I am glad to hear you are getting yourself checked out.

Magnolia I love my HRM!! I am somewhat of a nerd when it comes numbers. I like knowing my numbers! High Five to you on that 8 inch step – YAY!! :D

I did BC2 again today. I used two 20’s today for some of the exercises. I think I may be ready to try the next phase!! :D

Good afternoon,

Just finished my Saturday appointments. My office hours on Saturday are 10:00 until 2:00 . I really had hoped tax returns would wait until next week.

Haven't tried Red Robin yet. I wish all restaurants would post calories. Even if they are too high you can usually work them in diet by managing portion size.

I need to dig heart rate monitor out. Of course it probably needs new battery. I tried using monitor on treadmill, but it bounced from 46 to 165 in a few seconds and I don't believe either was correct.

Did my 5 miles on treadmill. This time it "only" took two hours. I am happy it was faster and my knees don't bother me too much. I hope I can build knees back up and do a few intervals with running/jogging.

It's back to 20 degrees or less. I think it might be better not to have the 60 degree days. When it goes back down it feels even colder.

If you take 220-age and multiply by 70%, for me that is 114. That would be my fat burning heart rate. At 85% maximum until I get more fit, that is 139. Jann, if you're rate is 115, then that seems to work for me too. I'm still wondering if I should spend money now on being tested. It's not so much the money, but the time it would take and would it really help me lose faster. I'm afraid at this hospital I would only get the numbers without any additional help. All the other locations are at fitness centers and are much further away.

Hope everyone has a good weekend,

Joan

Jann, I was posting while you were. I just took a lot longer.

Wedding sounds great. I think I enjoyed my son's more than my own. You are usually so busy with your own wedding. We decided to get married. I had heard you needed to send invitations out six weeks in advance so we planned the wedding for 6 1/2 weeks later. We did get it all done and was just as nice as son's that took a year to plan. I don't know why we rushed I wasn't even pregnant.

I thought I had bought a perfect dress for son's wedding and was 20 lbs thinner. I wished I had taken pictures from all angles before the big day.
I don't think you can look in the mirror and really see how you look. It was good from the front but from the side it was terrible. If I had known I definately would have stood differently.

Great about amount of weight you are using.:D You seem to be getting back to old form.

I have tried to get pictures on the album page and here. I have three pictures in a folder. Each pictures is not too big. I don't know what else to do. As soon as I can get my son over I will try again. Husband can't help at all.
