50 and over week of December 6 check in

Hi Everyone,

Today I did TLT Better Burn...Better Buns. Yesterday I had an very low energy day and my joints ached so I took a rest day. My food-intake was really bad...I was hungary for most of the day and I know I ate more than I needed. The cold weather is not helping much. I feel much better today although I still need to go out in the cold and walk several dogs.

Jann - For now I am not planning on getting Tracie's LONGevity series. I want to build up my Cathe collection for now and take advantage of the 30% sales.

I'm planning to do Weight Watchers online more consistently after the holiday season is over....if anything it helps me journal what I'm eating.

Tomorrow we're leaving for Philadelphia, PA to attend the Army/Navy football game on Sat. I haven't attended the game since 1985, a year after my daughter was born. In 1984 I was going through a difficult pregnancy and with the doctor's blessing we traveled from Maine to Philadelphia to attend the game. Navy lost (my husband graduated from USNA) and while Army was singing their alma mater, my water prematurely ruptured. 60 hours later my daughter was born 9 weeks premature. She and I were medivac'd to Maine a week later. It's so hard to believe so much time has come and gone. Anyway...I've got to start packing.

Hi, Y'All!

I've had a busy day! Christmas & grocery shopping, hair appointment, etc. I was on the run most of the day. So I didn't have time for a workout. However, I did park as far away from the stores as I could and walked as much as possible. Depending on what DH has in store for me tomorrow, I'll see if I can squeeze in something!

I'll see what I can do about putting some of the concert on U-tube if possible, but I don't know who will actually show up with cell phone or flip to take any video. Anyway, I'll see what I can do, & let you know.

Cathy, I had a couple of friends who did the Weight Watchers diet, and they not only lost weight, their health improved a lot and they looked fabulous. Good luck with it.

Personally, my problem is getting enough sleep. When I have not had as much sleep as I really need, I have a greater tendency of putting food into my mouth when I'm not hungry. That and drinking enough water. I gave up refined grains a very long time ago, and white bread, white rice, etc, doesn't taste good to me. I also know that I had a flat stomach when I wasn't eating refined sugar. I did great on the South Beach Diet and still eat some of the meals from it. (the food is so good!) Anyway, I'm trying to find a more natural way of keeping my weight down.

I hope all of you have a great evening.

Magnolia

Beth calories are around 1200 a day. That includes all 6 meals.

Linda Enjoy your DAY! That's some memory - :)

Magnolia I picked the south beach cookbook from the discount table. Now, if I can just figure it out. :D

Joan I agree you have a lot on your plate right now. Don't beat yourself up. I am glad you asked for help - enjoy it! :)

Cathy I've never done WW. Let us know how it's going. Always open to new ideas.

I have been nonstop today. I got in 2+ miles on the treadmill this morning. Then went straight to stirring up cookies. I will bake tomorrow. I did get the Chex mix done, my DS is very happy now. :) All my shopping and decorating is finished. I love to wrap so I'll do that sometime next week. Get togethers start this weekend. So diet, well, I'll do my best.

do ya'll know anything about jillian michaels "30 day shred"? sounds like a combination of the firm and cathe.

well, i will say about WW, that i am not hungry, and i still have 5 pts left today. i am eating much better than i have in a long time. so, we will jsut see what happens.

today i did jiggle free arms, and an back routine w/really heavy wts. stephanie makes killer upper body workouts.

Good evening/morning,

I got my 3 miles on the treadmill late. I wasn't going to do anything but started to feel guilty. I went to put on walking shoes and my cat had thrown up a hairball into them. Fortunately I had bought a new pair. They look good but felt terrible. I did a very slow walk to avoid blisters. I hope I have another pair.

Today's calories were 1301.

Elliot was feeling better. I can tell because we did a lot of dancing today. She's usually the princess and I'm the prince at the ball. I was also the reindeer and she was Santa. She did get a nap in but not me.:(

I want Christmas cookies!!! Since I would eat them all I probably won't make any.

Joan

Cathy - Jillian's DVD's are good ones. I like her no nonsence approach. 30 day was complied as a program with a 1200 calorie diet.
I copied my pal's Cindi's review here (she writes the best reviews)
So Friday was 30 Day Shred Level 1 + Cardio Kickbox

I really really liked 30DS-L1 (this was the easiest of the three levels). The warm up is similarly intense to the other workouts - she doesn't mess around since the workouts are all so short. You do some jumping jacks, run in place, etc. Then you go through 3 cycles of 3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio, 1 minute core. The 3 minutes strength are broken into 30 second single move, 1 minute compound move, then repeat. So for 1 cycle you do pushups, then squats and overhead press, another cycle you do rows, then lunges with bicep curls. The two minutes of cardio are jumping jacks or jumping rope. She picks two simple moves and you alternate them for 30 seconds. Core work is very simple - crunches, reversce crunches, oblique crunches. She picks 1 or two moves and you do it for the minute.

Then a quick stretch. The total workout is between 22-25 minutes.

Cardio Kickbox is about the same length in time. Warm up, several KB drills-repeat, new drills-repeat, stretch. The drills are very simple moves - side kick, jump rope, back kick, punches, etc. Very no-nonsense and not any choreography to speak of.

Good morning, Y'All

Well, I just finished The Firm's Maximum Cardio--or it finished me, I think is more accurate. I remember when that workout was a "piece of cake" for me. Not so now!! I'm getting a little more concerned about my aerobic capacity. I'm sure some of it is due to the fact that I'm 10 years older, but I have been doing cardio and keeping up with most of it. Anyhow, I guess I am just going to back off slightly on the intensity for now and work progressively toward being able to do these workouts again. Just makes a person more determined!!

Jann, the South Beach Diet consists of 3 phases: Phase 1 is the first two weeks, which is no carbs, no fruit (but you can have nuts & cheese & lots of other things). Then you go to phase 2, meaning you add carbs & fruits back gradually, and you stay on phase 2 until you reach your goal weight. Phase 3, you can eat whatever you like so long as you don't gain weight. It always worked for me & DH, but I just think I need a little change for right now. One of the cookbooks, the Quick and Easy one, is great if you don't like to cook, and the meals are all ready in about 30 min. or under. The first time I went on this diet, I lost 10 lbs. in the first two weeks.

Well, I need to get ready soon, we're going into NYC to meet my in-laws. My mil got us tickets to the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show.

Hope you all have a fantastic day.

Magnolia that's the book I have The SBD quick & easy cookbook. Quick and Easy caught my eye. ;) Any favorites I should try?

Good evening,

Jann, the Baked Pesto Chicken is good (and one of the easiest ones in the cook book ;)). There are so many really good ones in that cookbook, and they're all easy. If you like pasta, there are several really good recipes for that, like the one with penne, eggplant and ricotta. I have worn my copy out so that pages are falling out of it, I have used it so much. So I actually photocopied the ones that we like best. Enjoy! (I love the Chocolate Pudding recipe on page 300, it's one of our special favorites. :D)

Magnolia

Thanks Magnolia! WOW I would love to go see a show! I have been to NYC dozens of times, when I worked we had 2 offices there. I never stayed over night though. Always took the train up just for the day. :( How much fun was it?

Joan LOL cats!! I am glad you had a back up pair. :D

Jumped on the treadmill for 2 miles this morning. I had way to many cookies yesterday and the scaled of course showed it! Back on track as best I can today. :)

Joan I have been wearing my GWF again. Do you like the new software?

Good morning,

I just slept 16 1/2 hours. I didn't wo yesterday and I didn't even clean house. Calories eaten 1894.

Jann I really don't like the food entering part. I probably won't use that. I don't know if it is different or not. The calories used is a little different but I haven't put in the latest update. I don't always link up so I mainly use my numbers anyway.

Magnolia I hope the show was good. I'm jealous.

Cathy I'm glad ww is working for you.

Joan

Wow 16.5 you must have been really tired. I hope you are feeling much better. :) Ahhh yes Christmas parties... they are tricky. I gave up trying to use the GWF food entering it was just to much like work. I ended up purchasing a software for my PC. That way all my food will always be in it with no extra costs. I can download it to my PDA (Yes, I still carry a pda :p) so it's portable. It is not as nice as Cathe's showing the vitamins and all the little goodies but it's pretty good. I need to play with it a bit more.

LOL! same here, joan!! my specialty is pecan pie, which i ALWAYS make at Christmas. i cannot resist eating it. it is soooo good. it is an old family recipe, and it is the best pecan pie.

today i did total muscle shaping today. must be tired, it was really hard.

speaking of recipes. WW has a bunch of them and they are really super easy. that is my kind of cooking. and, i have a yummy, very easy soup recipe. i'll put it here in case anyone wants to try it.

1 large butternut squash
1/2 large potato
chopped onion

saute the onion in a bit of oil, then boil squash, and potato w/onion til soft. then, all you do is puree' the whole schmear, and eat it . it is unbelievalbly delicious!! i did put a little salt and pepper in mine. but not much.

Hi, Y'All!

Thanks, Cathy! Sounds like a great recipe. We like soup here.

The show was well named--Spectacular! There were 3-D glasses in the programs, and the second number was a 3-D sleigh ride with Santa. I think everyone needs to feel like a kid again once in a while. The Rockettes are legendary for a very good reason, they're tremendous. It's a great show.

Well, this afternoon was "dress" rehearsal, and tomorrow night is our concert. So, I took a rest day today and taking another one tomorrow. The kind of music we are singing takes a lot of energy, so we have to be rested in order to be at our best. Off to bed soon.

Have a great night, everyone.

Magnolia

Good evening,

Just got back from my Christmas party. I wasn't sure if I felt like going but took two advil and went. Total calories eaten for the day were only 1210. Most of those were from the party. If you sleep all day you don't eat as much.:p

I hope tomorrow is a better exercise day.

Joan
