5 weeks preg. question

Cathlete
Hello - I've never been to this forum :)
I just found out I am preg. yesterday - about 5 weeks.
First pregnancy. This wasn't a planned preg. but, we're excited.

During this first, early point, can I continue with my normal, Cathe workouts, and exert myself the same. I also play competitive soccer, can I continue that a little longer too. I haven't told my soccer team yet! I know they will be excited, but shocked too.

Any words of wisdom are welcome :)
Alicia

I have always continuted doing what I was doing at the level I was doing it when I got preg. I never try to do anything more than that. I think Cathe workouts are fine. I am not sure on the soccer. How likely is it for you to get kicked or to take a hard fall? I would think at this early stage it would be okay, but as you get further along it might get uncomfy. Congrats on your pregnancy!

Same here. I'm doing the same workouts today as I was doing pre-pregnancy, and I'm 36 weeks along at this point.

Congratulations!

Congrats Alicia!!!

The goal is to do your best tp MAINTAIN your current fitness level.
Some days (esp. in the 1st trimester!) you may feel awful (nauseous, etc) and even walking may be hard. Other days you'll be rockin' the Imaxes!

As far as competitive soccer, I would for myself probably not do it. I would be too concerned about a ball or a limb to my stomach or falling.

Enjoy your pregnancy!! Join us on the checkin if you'd like!

I played soccer through college and I don't think that that is something you would want to continue outside of your 1st trimester. there is probably too much risk to the baby after that because it will have grown outsite the pelvic cavity and trauma is possible. this is what my dr told me about skiing in the 1st trimester. He said that there is little risk when the baby is still tucked saftety in the bony structure of your pelvis. He wasn't thrilled about it though, either. Talk with your dr. and congratulations!!!!!

Thanks for your replies :0
