5 Weeks Postpartum...

Cathlete
and I'm back teaching!!

Hi everyone, it's me, Myra a ghost from the past! I thought I'd introduce myself to those who don't know me and say to those that have been around for awhile...

Josephina Marie (Nina) was born at 37 weeks on November 13, and weighed 5lbs. 7oz. I went into pre-labor at 33 1/2 weeks and had partial bedrest from then on. Nina is doing great nursing and sleeping (my first sleeper!) and is as cute as a button.

I'm doing SUPER considering she's my 3rd birth, 4th child (my 17yo is adopted) and the fact that's it's a high stress-time of the year!! Nina's siblings are a sister, Kyra, 16 months; brother Anthony, 11 yrs; and older sister, Lexa, 17 years. Yep, I'm chasing around my almost toddler and it can be exhausting but rewarding at times. My DH just landed a new job after being an "unemployed professional" for over 16 months, since my 3rd was born. It takes him away from the house more than I'm used to so I sometimes get blue from missing him. That said, I have been blessed with my 1st QUIET and quite predictable baby. She eats, then sleeps; she wakes and it starts all over again!

I teach a step interval class and a pilates class once a week, regularly, and have for the past 3 years. I also teach BodyPUMP, yoga, and latin aerobics. I look forward to learning the Pilates Reformer this next year. Being back from maternity leave feels great! I really needed to get out of the house and start burn up the extra 15+ lbs I have left! I started pretty slow, but it felt great to have some high impact moves in my life again, after being down for the last 9 months!

I've been so out of the video exercise routine for about a year but I love to "borrow" Cathe's choreography, it's so awesome. The last vids I bought from Cathe were the first 6-set cross-trainers! I think one of my biggest wishes this Christmas is to be as fit as Cathe was at 6 months postpartum...

Since week 1, I was doing various Pilates videos and I'm pretty sure that helped firm things up a whole heck of a lot!! I'm about to start the progesterone-only Pill and to get back into feeling my old self again. Today I hopped on a treadmill and another cardio machine for about 25 minutes and then I worked a little on the Pilates Reformer. I must report that this is the best recovery I've had from any of the births and I'm sure it was due to the epidural (labor was actually boring) and the Pilates. Even though there's a lot of ucky flab, I feel good and tight, especially around my core. Pilates and all the other core stabilization exercises out there, WORK!! I gained 52 pounds this time around and currently I'm at a size 11, and I'm givig myself 6 months to get back to my size 3's. I've even eliminated the extra sugars in my diet even though "tis the season" for all the yummies are lurking at every corner, I just don't have the desire for it. I have PCOS (and insulin resistance) and my prescription from my dietician was low sugar and high exercise to prevent Adult Onset Diabetes. But that was before I got pregnant!! I did the exact opposite, sad to say during my pregnancy, high sugars and low exercise!! However, now that I'm 30, I've had a strong feeling to take my condition more seriously so I can be in good health for my kids. I guess that's where this board comes in, I need to be accountable to someone who has the same situation as I and can relate to my off-days!! So hopefully, I'll find some new friends here and offer support to those who may need it, anytime!!

Anyhow, lots of luck to all you postpartum-ers and moms to be, one of my little one needs to go down for a nap!

TTFN,
Myra

Hi Myra, Did you do Pilates while you were pregnant? If so, what type of modifications did you use? I have a Stott Pilates video....would that still be ok to use while pregnant? Or, can you recommend a tape for me to use? Thanks so much, and it is good to hear you are doing so well. By the way, I am 8 weeks along with my 4th child. Although, my tummy is beginning to look like I am alittle further along!! SIGH.... Thanks, Jennifer
