3801 tries to strike again

I'm thoroughly disgusted with the reports I've been reading here about ebay seller 3801. I believe this person has a new tactic to rip off the buyer and Cathe. I noticed an auction he had for a Cathe DVD with a reserve price. I entered a small bid that did not meet his reserve price. When the auction was over noone had bid high enough to meet his reserve. I got an email from this person offering a second chance to just buy the DVD without bidding. I asked if it was original or a copy and the reply I got was:

"hi, thanks for the email. this is the original dvd and case. thanks again."

I'd be willing to bet that he/she has several copies of this DVD and that the reserve price was so high that noone would win the auction. When it was over everyone who bid probably was offered a second chance to buy it.

I can't believe there is no way to stop this person!!

UGH! How horrible. You know, I bought a couple of Cathe things off of there but truthfully these random bad sellers really make me think twice about wanting to do that. I think I'll stick to just ordering from Cathe. Thanks for the heads up and I am sorry this is happening for you.

Marla,
People buy from EBay because a lot of times you get it cheaper than buying it from Cathe. I personally only buy her dvds through Cathe or Collage. I wish I could buy it somewhere else because they might sell for cheaper especially her older workouts but it's not going to happen so I just buy it from Cathe or if I get lucky, I get a real good dvd through a trade. Also, people love the excitement of winning something from EBay. I don't care for EBay.

Yeah that person has been using that tatic for quite a while that's how my client got scammed, she got the *fake* DVD for Terminator & S&H for $30 each + shiping. It was a little more then 30, but can't remember the number she gave me. She couldn't believe her luck, then she got them and wouldn't play. I've turned these people in 3 different times, and since their acution doesn't say copied DVD anywhere on it. They are suppose to contact Cathe, and ask if these person is authorized to sale her DVDs.

I'd really like to pick up a good set of Cathe's first video workouts, but with 3801 still around I sure won't use Ebay, as they won't even get rid of this person with multiple complains of copied material.

If you pull him up in the advanced search and pull up all his auctions in the last 30 days you will notice that all of the bidders i.d.'s are kept private. Is that so noone can tell the other bidders what he's up to? Only 1 is not kept private and that is for a vhs.

Yeah that was because a there were a few others who warned those other bidders that what they got was a pirated copy and appearently those people had a fit. So now 3801 is stoping you from informing them.

Eventually he will be stopped. Maybe Cathe can have printed "original" on the clear circle in the middle of the dvd's. That is not something they can copy as part of the label. When I burn my movies, the label doesn't even cover that part.

To clarify, I already have the DVD I bid on and only bid on 3801's auction because I was curious to see what would happen. I was pretty sure my bid was too small to meet the reserve price. In any case, I responded to his email telling him that he has the reputation of selling pirated Cathe DVDs, that he has been reported and that there is no way I would ever buy anything from him.

I'm just amazed that ebay allows him to continue selling anything. I wonder what it would take for him to be banned?

I buy and sell things on ebay and have never had a bad experience. I really hate that this dishonest person gets away with potentially ruining it for everyone else.

Lisa, I am a bargain hunter just like the next guy, but I would still feel like a a thief if I tried to get a "good deal" somewhere else and not give the original person their due.

I know it's just me. Bear with me.

the link is the one I used, since his sale page doesn't say copy, they really don't do anything. Now if you had the word Copy of Cathe Friedrich's DVD, they'd shut the person down in a second.

Very annoying.

You're right. Ebay won't take anything off of auction unless it says copy in the listing. Otherwise, they have no way of really knowing unless the copyright holder says something. Even then, it takes a while. I reported a person who actually said in their auction "if you want the original, then don't bid on my auctions!". Ebay pulled the auction within an hour. ALso, I have seen auctions where the item is obviously pirated because of the price or because I just know, but there is nothing in the listing to tell that it is a copy (not including the original packaging is not enough). Ebay does nothing. They really need better policing.

the people buying from 3801 off-ebay are just as guilty as 3801 and are forfeiting the protections ebay offers its users. this is how he will continue to get away with this--you cant complain to ebay that you bought a copy from a seller when you bought it off-ebay against both their rules and warnings.
