When is it not safe to do situps? I believe its at the four month mark but i wanted to make sure. Iw as doing muscle endurance today and that ab section is TOUGH! Maybe becuase i'm preggers and tired. I got to thinking that maybe it wasnt safe but I know my little embryo isnt that big yet and I think I read situps and lying ab work are ok until about 4 months along. Just thought i'd ask the knowledable ladies here! Thanks!

Also I believe I am about 6 weeks along. When can i expect to start getting morning sickness? I know every body is different but isnt it the worst in most cases in the first tri mester? Mostly I feel tired and get the occasional headache or go to the bathroom a lot. But i havent had 'morning sickness' and im hpoing i won't!

Many people say that you should stop doing any work flat on your back after about 12 weeks.

My doctor told me not to worry about it. He said that only about 10% of women experience blood flow being cut off to the vena cava (which is why they want you to stop). If you have this issue, you will feel it LONG before any harm comes to the baby - feeling light headed, nauseous, etc...

So I was doing work on my back (bench, flies, etc..) until the very end, and never had an issue. My little guy is healthy as can be.

As for the morning sickness, it should be kicking in somewhere around now, if you're going to get it. Hopefully you're one of the lucky few who skip it! I was!

Hey Jen! GLad you're avoiding the dreaded AM sickness! I hope it doesn't effect you for RT! Mine kicked in around 7 weeks and lasted til 13 weeks. The tiredness will prob. last til about then too.

As far as the ab work.... I did lying on the back til the end of my 1st trimester, then switched to modifying it to being on my incline bench. Also did standing core (Tracey Staehle's Core Blast is AWESOME!). However..... I now have diastasis, basically where your ab muscles start to split down the middle. So I have quit all ab work, midwife's orders. I'm very bummed about it but try not to dwell on it. It's supposedly a common pg thing, but somehow that doesn't make me feel better!!:) Cathe had it and look at her! So there's hope for me too! STS post-partum is going to be great!

Good to see you again - take care!

uh-oh, i'll be coming up to 7 weeks shortly. hopefully i'll be able to avoid it all together. i feel pretty good now and can eat anything without too much side effects. just using the bathroom a lot every now and then :(

i went shopping today for some clothes - not maternity yet. I told my job and they took me off road patrol for safety reasons. So...i have a more set schedule and wont be dealing with criminals and crazy people. Just have to get used to being a civilian! I just got my take home cruiser too and cant drive it now. oh well :) best to be safe

thanks for your input. i see my doc for the first time on july 16th

Congrats! I think I was about 7 weeks when it hit me, nausea isn't too bad but fatigue can be unbareable.

My first dr appt is July 18th--a couple days after yours. Is this your first?

Feel free to join us in daily check ins. :)

Congratulations!!!!

I was paranoid any time I'd be on my back throughout my pregnancy even though the doc said it was fine. However, I was one of the few that did have the IVC compromise, but it didn't hit until the last 1-2 months of pregnancy. I'd nearly pass out, get dizzy, nauseous, blurry vision, cold sweats, ect after just lying down for 5 minutes while I had my doc check me during appointments. It was quite scary. My point is...you will KNOW if the blood flow is being compromised. I did supine ab work up until my 7-8th month.

As for the morning sickness, it hit at 6 weeks and lasted the whole pregnancy. Zofran was my friend. You may be one of the lucky ones who doesn't get it!:)

I started morning sickness with my first pregnancy at 6 weeks, my second at 5 1/2 weeks and my third at 5 weeks. I have several friends who didn't get it at all. One of them said that some foods tasted funny to her or left a weird aftertaste, but no actual nausea or vomiting.

As far as lying on your back, I can't remember for sure - I thought it was right around when you said - the 4 month mark. My second pregnancy was a twin pregnancy and I couldn't lie on my back at all. I would get very sick and lightheaded during ultrasounds. I felt fine with my other pregnancies, though, but I was cautious and didn't do anything while flat on my back.

Hope you have a wonderful pregnancy!
