14 weeks--popping out or just getting fat?

I can't believe the bulge in my lower tummy at just 14 weeks of pregnancy. Is this normal. I can't get my pants snapped and have bought large baby doll tops to wear over them so I can wear them open. This is my first baby, although I did have a miscarriage at 12 weeks last year. I am trim and average size--5'6'', 135 pounds, size 7--and a healthy eater.

I am worried it could be fat. My first trimester I was so nauseated that I gave up exercising almost completely and forced myself to keep a moderate amount of food in my belly. Even though I had no appetite, I wonder if I ended up eating more than usual since I was trying to space food intake out over the entire day, and I wasn't used to this eating plan. Also, before pregancy, I didn't eat many grains and starches, but I started to after pregnancy because I wanted to make sure I got proper nutrients. Anyways how do you tell if it's fat or baby? At 11 weeks, when I went to the doc., my weight was still at pre-pregnancy level. I don't have a scale and haven't weighed myself since then, but I feel I must have put on 10 pounds since. Is it normal to be popping out at 14 weeks? If I keep this up, I am going to be enormous by the end of it all.

I think your little bambeno is growing:) They say you fill out faster with your second child and even though you miscarried I would think this to be true...your body was still preparing for a baby. The same thing happened to one of my friends.

When I was pregnant I filled out very fast as well. In no time my pants were tight. It did slow down after a while though.

And to make you feel better, I was in a clothing store the other day where a pregnant lady was trying on some loser tops for work. I couldn't believe it when I over heard her say that she was only 2 monthes:eek: She looked like she was 5 monthes pregnant. She must be having twins!

Either way, the fat does come off. I wouldn't worry to much about it.If you get back into working out and eating healthy shortly after, the weight will come off! Enjoy your pregnancy and sleep! It comes to an end! LOL

Manmohini-

I am the same way - I am popping out at 14 weeks, too! and if it makes you feel any better, I have been exercising the whole time. I gained about 5 lbs over the first 2 months, then nothing the 3rd ... but during this past week, I gained 4 lbs suddenly. I think your baby is growing, so try not to worry about the weight. I wondered if my 2 previous losses made me pooch out early this time, too ... who knows?

My dr. says people gain at different rates and sometimes in spurts, but that around week 14 your uterus changes position. Mine was super tilted (I could hardly pee for 2 weeks) but during week 13 I could feel my ligaments getting sore - then voila - I could pee again, but I had a new pooch.

Hang in there,

Thanks, this is all reassuring. I do plan to start getting more exercise now that school is out and I'm no longer feel constantly nauseated.

Arancini, I am so glad to hear that we both made it to 14 weeks! Looks like we're over that hump. A sono at 11 weeks showed a good healthy baby and heartbeat. I am about ready to start believing that it's really going to happen this time.

Hi,

I'm just 16 weeks and I've noticed that it's getting really tough to camouflage my bump -- and we haven't made our announcement yet. I had a miscarriage last spring so who knows, could be the theory about your 2nd pregnancy is true...that you show sooner or more. My miscarriage was so early though, just 8 weeks, so who knows.

I've gained much more weight in the last few of weeks than I have for the whole 4 months. So I think what you're experiencing is all baby, I wouldn't worry too much. Just keep taking care of yourself.

If it makes you feel any better I freaked at about 14 weeks too, but at 2 weeks later I measure about the same around my waist and my weight has increased steadily but not drastically ~ 1.5 - 2 lbs. This month my gain was 4lbs overall vs 6-7 lbs for the first 12 weeks.

Good luck to you and your growing bambino!
