Is the Dyson Animal worth the $$?

I am to the point where I want to throw my vacumn out the window. It's a standard Dirt Devil. We have a dog and cat who shed alot. The wheels of my vacumn seem to just push the hair back and forth in clumps and it takes forever just to do one room. Any input would be a life saver.

    Turbo Jam Cardio Party 3?

Thanks for the input, I'm going to try it. I could use something new thrown in and like the fact that I can make it as intense as I want. I feel like I have alot of high intensity stuff, so something medium is great for those days when I don't have 100%. And, I have weighted gloves, so it...

    Turbo Jam Cardio Party 3?

I did a search, but couldn't find anything on this specifically. I'm looking for a new cardio DVD to spice things up and this looked fun. Does anyone have this and could you tell me what the fun factor is as well as how it compares in intensity to one of Cathe's cardio DVD's? Thanks

    Muscle memory ala Outside magazine

Just read an interesting blurb about muscle memeory in the Pop Quiz section of my Outside magazine. Thought I'd share it: Muscles are just flex. Muscle memory is a sporty phrase for a process that takes place entirely in the noggin. When you first try an Eskimo roll or the "Freebird"...

Anyone else struggle with PLB stability ball portion?

Maybe it's because I don't often use PLB for my lower body workout, but I decided to do it today and the stability portion killed. I could barely do the first exercise and the others were tough. I thought I was fairly strong, but yikes. Anyone else find this to be the case with this section or...

What percentage of diet/nutrition versus exercise?

There's a discussion going on with some family members about diet and exercise and I'm at a loss as to what the general quote is about how much of success in losing weight is diet/nutrition versus exercise? In other words, isn't it like 75% of it is what you eat and 25% of it is exercise? They...

    Puffy hands after cardio?

I was wondering if anyone experiences this or if they know why it occurs. Not often, but once in a while when I do cardio, especially if it's warm in the house, my hands get all puffy. What's up with that? Is there something I could be doing it prevent it?

    Question on Paul Chek books

I've heard good things about Paul Chek and also saw him on a show on FitTv called "Insider Training" with Gabby Reese. I'd like to get one of his books and am wondering if anyone could recommend one of the best. I'm interested in ramping up my overall health and fitness in general. Thanx!

Need help with pulled muscle please

Thanks for the input. I was just reading something about the mind/body connection and how stressing mentally about the injury can actually make the problem last longer. And, that a positive mental attitude helps.

He Thinks I am Too Tall

I think that I've definitely thickened my skin over the years and have much improved, however, I am by nature, sensitive and things like that hurt my feelings or would embarrass me as well. I've come to not care as much about what people think and also to realize that kind of stuff is about the...

    Kari Anderson

I have a couple of old step tapes of Kari, she was one of my first bench workouts. She's very likeable and knowledgable. I found her workouts too be too dancy for me in general. Also, her music even at the time was a bit outdated. Unfortunately, I can't really comment on the stuff she's done...

Need help with pulled muscle please

I pulled my left bicep a week and a half ago. It was feeling better, but just trying to some back work and now it hurts again, so it obviously wasn't completely healed. It makes me want to cry to think of losing ground with my biceps, let alone my other upper body muscles. It seems that when I...

For those who make oatmeal with milk

I make mine in the microwave with water and then add milk when the oatmeal is done. I like mine a little wet and it also helps cool it off.

How do you cook steel cut oats?

I cook them in the microwave, but just be sure that you have a big enough bowl or it tends to overflow. On mine, for one serving you use 3/4 cup water and 1/4 oats and put them in a bowl and microwave for 1-2 minutes. I like them because they are chewy compared to regular oatmeal, although...

How can you do reps to failure and not get injured?

So last Monday I was doing bicep curls and I felt an uncomfortable pull in my left bicep, so I stopped. I laid off the bicep since then and it was feeling better. Today I tried to do a few pull-ups and now it hurts again. What I don't understand is how this happened in the first place. I was...

Need help on hand position and muscles being worked

Here's a pic of the device. Besides overhand and underhand grips, you can see in the littler photo of the woman that she's using these two handles that come out. I was wondering if I use those handles initially, I would be working up to pull ups and chin ups. I don't want to use them if they...

Need help on hand position and muscles being worked

I picked up the door gym at my local Play It Again Sports. Besides being able to have your grip palms facing out or palms facing toward you, it also has handles that come straight out. So, in other words, your hands are gripping and palms are facing to the side. I found that I'm able to...

    levitation holds tip

When I asked for tips on this about a month ago, I got a response that helped me 100% as I couldn't do them. As soon as I tried this, I could do them. Be sure and keep your hands toward the front, not next to your sides as this keeps your body weight balanced. It seems counter intuitive, but...
