What do I teach my pre-teen girls about healthy eating?

I'm not sure what my next steps should be as my girls are becoming aware of their bodies, weight, etc. I want to be very careful and thoughtful about what we talk about, without creating issues they have to deal with later on. As someone who has overcome years of eating issues from when I...

    Heart Rate Monitor Suggestions

I was just marveling today that I've had my Polar for 7 years and it's still going strong! It doesn't retain the amount of workouts you need, but I can attest that the Polar brand is very reliable at least.

    What shoes to wear with....

Thanks! I hadn't even thought of these options....crazy since w/o clothes and similar are such a big part of my wardrobe! ;)

    What shoes to wear with....

...what shoes look good with yoga pants or boot cut workout pants, besides athletic shoes? Something sporty and casual...sometimes I want to wear the pants, like on the weekends but not necessarily to work out, and definitely not with my big, clunky white Asics.

Lost- the loss of one you love

Dear Kitterfly, I don't even know how you are coping with this - what a sudden and terrible loss. If you need to, you can always pour your heart out here. It's always good to release your thoughts, even the tiniest things are safe to say here. In my prayers ....

Christmas letters ... yay or nay??

I love getting Christmas letters, sitting down at night with a cup of tea and reading about my friends' lives and kids. So I always feel obligated to send one. This year, I'm printing photo cards and just having a condensed version (hopefully humorous) printed on the inside. I receive a...

    Worms on my cashews!

I had this same problem last year. I think they came in with the dog treats, although I kept them in a rubbermaid bin. These things give me the heebie-bajeebies!!!! Not only did I put all cereal, rice, etc. in airtight containers, but I sprayed and wiped the whole dang pantry down with...

    How much before others notice?

I think it depends on your height and how much you have to lose. I've lost 10 pounds and feel like a new person, but I don't think anyone's noticed. If I lose 8 more, I'll be on the low end of my BMI and will hopefully fit into some smaller (and cuter!) clothes. But I'm 5'11" and while people...

Which workouts have you done so far?

I did Low Impact Challenge, too ..... I love how even the warm up is incorporated when you string everything together AND how the blast just keeps on going! I can't remember which workout is which, so I'm off to read the descriptions here to see what to do this morning.

    USPS - you rock!

Wow! I got mine in Colorado today and I'm SO glad I waited until after lunch to work out. I did Low Impact Challenge and along the lines of Step Moves, I'm going to have to be careful not to wear this one out....it is so fun!

    Wen hair care

I'm loving it, too. My hair feels SO light. I don't think I'm spending much more, as I'm not using shampoo or mousse anymore (amazing) and hardly any hairspray. My hair looks pretty good when I roll out of bed, too! Just tried it on my 10-year old DD this am - I may have to convert the...

Hiked up Pikes Peak & Got Married!!!!

From someone who gazes at Pikes Peak every day, CONGRATULATIONS! I'm glad you went this week - there was a foot of snow up there 2 weeks ago. You sure have visited some gorgeous places!

    Wen hair care

Okay, this is so funny .... I emailed this post to my sister, telling her "You have to try this stuff - even Cathe uses it!" Well, she read the thread, and emailed me back at 4am (pregnancy insomnia) saying, "Cathe uses 26 pumps?!! You try it and let me know how you like it...."...

Jen, that is major surgery! I'm glad you're feeling better and "reinforced" now!

    Umbilical/ Belly button Hernia ?

My doctor/surgeon was able to determine it was a hernia from just a physical exam, no x-ray. Actually, at first I saw my general dr's p.a., and he wasn't 100% sure because it didn't seem typical so he referred me to the surgeon who knew exactly what it was. After the 6-week period following...

    Umbilical/ Belly button Hernia ?

I had an umbillical hernia - my stomach was probably weakened when I had kids. I remember the day the hernia happened - I had decided to hoist a 40# barbell up for squats, even though I had been working with 25#. Dumb! That night I felt the little knot and eventually went to a surgeon. He...

    Question for Educated Spinning Types

I really think your form changes with shoes with clips - you don't have to worry about compensating for your foot slipping out of the basket, and as LSass said, you get the benefit of the full rotation with the pushing and pulling motion. One good thing is (unlike athletic shoes) it's hard to...

    Distended stomach - Cathe newsletter

I had bloating, cramps so bad that I was miserable. After a ton of bloodwork (including for Celiac's) I had a food allergy blood panel. I found out I had become severely allergic to eggs, whey/dairy, bananas and (?) red kidney beans! My immune system was terrible and sometimes you can become...

What would you save in the event of a fire?

Pam, I could see the smoke from the fire by you last night! We seem to get a lot of fires started on Fort Carson, which is across from us .... after the last close one, I photographed every drawer, cupboard, bin, room, outside furniture, etc. and put the photos in a safe-deposit box. I figured...

Anyone uses pull-up bands on the Iron Gym pull-up bar?

I would use my iron woody bands - love those things! - on a door frame bar. I gave away my bar, but I never had any problems.
