    Dairy Free

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. It seems I am hearing so many people say they are dropping a lot of weight from giving up dairy and I wanted to be one of them but the truth is, I hear a lot of people dropping weight from counting calories, eating clean, working out, gastro bypass...

    Dairy Free

I would like to go on a Dairy Free, Sugar Free, Gluten free diet for the new year in an effort to drop some pounds. I've been GF for several years now and have no problem with that but I supplement my diet with dairy. No milk, but I do have cheese, cottage cheese and occasional yogurt...

    Gluten free diet?

I've been gluten free for about 3 years now. It is like flipping a switch. I remember being amazed at how quickly I felt better. I'm the only one in the family that eats GF although I have tried to convert several. :-) It's not that difficult, when cooking at home I continue to cook pasta...

    Black Friday

I've only gone out on one Black Friday and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a blast. The strange thing is, I'm not a shopper, and I'm not a people person. I went alone and I wasn't looking for anything specific but I loved it! I was in line at 4am. It was so much fun... I've toyed with the...

    Kombucha???

This should read: pour Synergy's kombucha in a large mouth bottle before covering with cloth and left to ferment... othewise you won't be able to get the baby out. :-)

    Kombucha???

I use to make my own, it's relatively easy to make, more or less you are making a batch of tea and then sitting it aside to ferment. It just became too much of a chore to keep it going. I would have as many as 3 batches fermenting with one in the fridge so it required labeling each batch and...

I did my first hot yoga class

I would have to agree with this too. Hot yoga lost some of it's lustre after reading more about him and his arrogance. I also think the instructors should be able to instruct while doing the poses themselves, maybe not holding them as long but at least to show the movement. I like to know...

    Growth Hormones Linked to Obesity?

I'd put my money on High Fructose Corn Syrup.

I did my first hot yoga class

I did Bikram for awhile and loved it. It was tough but I always felt wonderful afterwards. I had to drive 45 minutes to get to class, then 90 minutes for the class and 45 more to get back home so it became too much.

Celiac disease: Can you eat oats?

Yes, only eat certified gluten free oats. Bob's Red Mill has some and also what they call "Tasty Hot Cereal" that is gluten free. I will occasionally eat McCann's Irish oats but not all celiacs can. Here is what McCann's says.. Are McCann's Oat products gluten free? In the supply...

    Silly Q about rice cakes..

Thanks eveyone for your replies. Perhaps I do micro-manage them but I counted and I had 5 of them today. <ouch> I'm thinking that may be what's keeping me from losing. At my age the extra calories aren't as easily ignored as they use to be. Cindi, I'm going to check out the salt & pepper...

    Silly Q about rice cakes..

No, they are the same size. The Lumberg taste better and heartier and may weigh more, I haven't put them on the scale but if I were to make a sandwich as I sometimes do then I would need to use two cakes. Lumberg does say they use "twice" the rice as most cakes and that may be why but if that...

    Silly Q about rice cakes..

Ok, this may be a stupid question but I would like your opinions. There are two brands of rice cakes, Lumberg which has 70 calories per cake (0 fat, 15 carbs w/1 fiber and 1 protien) and Kroger brand which has 35 calories (o fat, 7 carbs w/0 fiber and 1 protein). Both list brown rice & salt...

    Potty Training Help Please

What has worked really well for my DGD was to get a poster board and tape to the door. When she goes potty she gets to pick a sticker and put on the board. It's very motivating. Also reading books to her while she's on the potty helps. I keep a stack just for "Potty time". Of course then...
