Simple Carbs....

Goodafternoon

Did anybody read cathe's latest article on what to eat after resistance training? I believe I read the best thing to eat was a simple carb and protein. Can someone tell me what is a simple carb? Does this also apply to cardio training?

Hi Wonderwoman!

Yes, this applies to cardio training too.

You want your simple carbs to be unrefined (ie: fresh fruit) so that you still have the fiber content along with the carbs. Avoid unrefined carbs/sugars. They provide no nutrition or fiber so they are basically "empty" calories that don't refuel your workout optimally.

So stick with fruits such as fresh berries (all kinds), pears, melons, bananas, cherries, peaches, grapefruit, oranges, apples, lemon, etc.

Avoid refined sugars such as jams, jellies, fruit juice (as it lacks the fiber), flavored waters, ice cream, pastries, white bread, etc.

Oh my gosh,
Thank you so much for responding to my question. So I guess I will continue to have my protein shake with my 1/2 cup of strawberries after my workouts! But of course I learned that from the best. Catheletes of course:)
