Allergic to Self Tanners?

I have tried a couple of different self tanners and they give me itchy hives. I have tried not shaving for a couple of days before applying, and still have problems. Anyone else have this problem, and if so, have you found one that works for you? I am wondering if the active ingredient is the same in all of them and maybe that is what the problem is.

I can't use fake bake either.....I found a Loreal brand last year that you wash off every day....I can't find it this year....you could look for leg makeup, but I've decided that I'll just have to be white.....I mean superwhite!!!

I am very white too, and am ok with that. Its the blue spider veins that keep getting worse every year that I want to hide!

I started using Laura Geller's Spackle in the Bronze on my legs. It's actually designed to be used on your face, so there are no sensitivity issues. It's also very sheer and I only put it on my legs to stop them from reflecting light when I wear a skirt. I've never done self-tanners.

I've heard that Paula's Choice self tanner is perfect for us fair girls who want some color. Her products are supposed to be great for sensitive skin...I've got some on order!;)

I have the same problem with self tan - i think it's the dha in the product that give me the hives and as much as i've tried, can't find a dha free tanner on the market. have started using perfect legs skin miracle from 'this works' which gives me natural glow and at the end of the day just washes off. think tanners will be no go from now on as the itching is just to unbearable.

Yes, the itching is unbearable! I was really hoping to find something that would work, but maybe there isn't anything. I wonder, so spray tans use the same ingredient? I am afraid to try it!
