50 and over week of May 24 check in

Good Morning,

Just getting us started.

I wish I could wo in morning but I am stiff when I first get up.

Cathe is right about incline hammer curl with band. It does bother back if you don't lift head. I think I will substitute regular hammer curls next time.

Today is abs with weights and plates.

Yea the sun is shining. Lets see if I can get a weeks worth of work done today. I usually buy a small amount of plants, plant them and then buy more. I have such a late start this year (too wet) that I got them all at once.

Back again after wo.

Good morning Joan - Thanks for getting us started.
I just finished disc 10. Another tough one for my shoulders. :) I got off to a good start with stability ball abs then once she started the plank work I didn't try. My shoulders were not up to that. I did crunches and some other ab work on my own. :D
I bought more plants yesterday myself. I had everything planted -- what can I say. I LOVE my garden!!
I wish we would get some rain soon. I have been watering for about a week now. :(

I got up at 5am and had some time so I jumped on the treadmill for 2 miles. :D
Off to the picnic!!

Hi Jann, Tricia, Magnolia and Beth,

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I just finished disc 8 and I did about half of abs(didn't get them in yesterday). Gym was closed today so I didn't get pullups done.

We replaced our front walk last summer. It was brick pavers and now stamped concrete. We used the pavers to make a patio on the side of our house. Unfortunately we needed more. I couldn't find the same color in that syle. Surprise Surprise after 20 years. I did find a different style in the same color that should work. While my husband made three trips to the store to buy them, alternating cars, I unloaded 200 brick pavers in about 50 trips to the back side yard. I needed to wear long sleeves so I didn't have my GWF on. I really would like to know how many calories I used.

Jann If I ever get up at 5am I guarantee I won't jump on treadmill.
Good job on getting wo in. I know it would have been easier to just get up later and go to picnic. It rained most of the day, I would be happy to send you some. The tomato plants perked up. I watered them yesterday but rain just works better.

I can't keep eyes open to type so I better get to bed.

I forgot weigh in today so will weigh today when I wake up.

Joan

It's raining today - :D This is a picture from my office window. I can see part of two of my gardens...

Hi Ladies!

Jann what a beautiful view. Are those mountains in the horizon? Your gardens are lovely! My husband and I worked all weekend in our yard as well. We have had non stop rain for at least a week now. The tomatoes just shot up during that time! We do not have nearly as much space as you do (no one at the beach does) But we do have a nice backyard.

Joan, I would say that whatever the number- it qualifies as a workout hauling pavers. The las t time I did that (bricks) I had something similar to carpal tunnel for a while afterwards. Its when you really feel those small muscles in the forearms.

I downloaded the sts roation with the cardio last night. Is that what you all are following? I am now behind you all becasue I started over but it didn't get any easier- I still have a imax 2 to do. Do either of you own cardio kicks and rythmic step with mic? Is it worth buying for this rotation or do you think I could substitute? Le tme know your thoughts!!

Oh and Jann- try the iron gymn (19.00) for the pull ups- it works great!! I got mine at bjs.

Hi to Magnolia and Tricia!!

back from imax 2

:(35 minutes later and I still can not get through that w/o. I cannot tell if my mind goes first or if my feet can't keep up, but it is so frustrating!!!! I hate to say this but I think I need something simple when it comes to choreography!

{{{{hugs Beth}}} I can't keep up with most of that either. I find Basic step workouts work better for me - I can do them and get more of a workout from them! I have the RS, CK and mic DVD and skipped them when on the rotation. I think Cathe only put in these workouts because people wanted a rotation they could follow. Originally STS was created with 3 weight workouts a week with 3 cardio days of your choice. Cathe did her own form of cardio while doing the STS rotation. I am trying to do some type of cardio = to what she suggested... most days. ;)

Thanks! I live in a valley between mountains. We don't have much land, I try to use as much as possible. :p It has rained all day - :D - We needed it. I only have a few vegetables planted, next year I plan to put in more. I love flowers blooming! Well, having a beach in the back yard is Certainly Not a BAD thing - :D

Thanks for the kind words

:)Thank you Jann, for the encouragment! I just thought I had improved in so many ways in the last 3 months- and then, I could not follow that routine!! I decided that I will attempt the suggestions to the extent that I own the tapes, and then hop on the treadmill, where the brain can stay in a blissful state on inattention! Regardless, it is the fat burn I am after.

Oh, and I don't live on the beach - it is at the end of my street. But still, the lots around here are small. Actually, if we lived any closer we probably couldnt do tomatoes because of the salt air. This year I have a couple of experiments going. I did the 5 gallon jug hanging to see if that would work and then the ones in the ground. So far, the ground wins on size of plant and tomatoes.

Well, have a good evening everyone!

Good Morning,

Jann Beautiful view. I really need to figure out how to add pictures. I love to garden but hate the sun.

Beth I have all dvd's. I substitute rhythmic step and low max for a lot of the high impact or complicated step routines. On the others I modify until it is unrecognizeable. I say I am following her rotation but maybe it is better to say I do a cardio when she says to do a cardio but I am trying to get abs in on schedule.

I didn't find out until yesterday that it was my last day of babysitting until the middle of August.:D I'm sure I will have her occasionally but no more excuses. Except today, planning a whole house cleaning. Not giving up on getting disc 10 in yet.

Hi to Magnolia and Tricia.

You are welcome Beth. I am sure you have made many improvements in your strength, stamina, and over all wellness. Keeping up with chorography is defiantly not a reflection on those things. :) Good luck with those tomatoes. They should taste pretty good come mid summer!

Joan here is how I post a picture. I upload my pics to Flickr copy and past the url like this..

I agree modify, modify, modify that stepping just keep moving!

I finished disc 11 today and added ball abs. I like this ball abs. Its doable for me. I will be taking the week off from weights next week. My body needs it.

hey all

Just finished disc 2 again. I also tortured myself and warmed up with one small section of body max blast. If I do it enough- it is bound to make sense.

How did the house cleaning go Joan? I read yesterday that decluttering your house can lead to weight loss. Go figure that one! Maybe if you throw out the chips, but I think the slant of the article was that de-clutter equals de-stress equals weight loss.

Jann, I know what you mean about the week off from weights. It feels so good!!! Enjoy!

Hello, ladies!

I have returned to my computer and my workouts today!! I'm off schedule a little bit do to our mini vacation, I did STS #10 today along with Stability Ball Abs. I gotta say I'm enjoying the way Cathe has done these Ab Circuits workouts. She's sticking to lower reps per exercise, which helps me complete all of them, knowing they're almost over!! I've missed being here to check in, it sounds like everyone had a nice weekend! Hopefully tomorrow I'll have more time to tell you about our fun trip, my kids are still talking about it.
Beth, you mentioned RS, MIC and Cardio Kicks. I find I do something different when these are presented in a rotation. RS was never one of my favorites for some reason, and MIC I find very repetitive during the step segment. Cardio Kicks feels dated to me because Cathe's form has improved so much since then. I am going to do something in place of Rythmic Step tomorrow - maybe one from Cardio Fusion. I'll let you know - but now I'm pretty tired and am going to log off.

Good night all!

I can't count. It was disc 9 legs today. I did just finish it.

I wish everyone lived close by. I found out that with housecleaning max I burn 2400 calories in a day.(not counting sts) Fortunately(unfortunately) my house is now clean top to bottom. I need someone else's house to clean.:D

It rained again today so I'm sure it will be too wet to mow tomorrow.

Exercise is great but I need something active to do for 4-8 hours per day if I want to lose weight. Any suggestions?

Gardening :p I like to pick projects on days I need a bit more activity. Like cleaning places I don't clean on a regular basis. The china hutch, I take everything out move it to another room - steps count - wipe everything down inside and out. Taking the pots and pans or plates or dishes I only use on special occasion and do the same thing. Clean under the sink - There's always that closet.
Go to the mall and just walk, its air conditioned or heated which ever is needed. Walk outside.
Watch a movie while walking on the treadmill. No speed just walk.
Yesterday I dusted the tops of all the big furniture. I couldn't believe how much dust was up there. I climbed up and down a step ladder on purpose. :)

HI Tricia welcome back! Can't wait to hear about you mini vaca!! :D

For my cardio today I did intervals 4-7 of low max then added basic step on. Now, I need to go check the weather. I really need to mow at least part of the yard today. :)

Hi, there. I have been trying to catch up on course work. Next week, I have a paper due, so I might not check in until it's finished.

Jann, what beautiful gardens you have! Wish I was good at yard work, but I have a brown thumb. My DH is great, though. There's a guy at our church who is having a rough time financially, and he's a very talented landscaper. So we hired him to help DH with the front lawn. He did a beautiful job, too.

Joan, I would say all those trips with pavers/bricks certainly qualifies as a wo! I know that I have a lot to do around here, especially as far as cleaning is concerned. After the paper is turned in, I'll take the fire hose and the rake to my living room (and the rest of the house).

I agree with all of you about the choreography in some of Cathe's cardios. I am one of those who loves simplicity. But I started with Basic Step (still one of my favorites) and am also doing the cardio only from Body Fusion (on the same DVD), and Low Impact Step in an attempt to learn the moves to whatever extent my brain will hold onto them before moving on to the more advanced ones.

I did Lean Circuit 2 today. I'm a day behind this week, but I am going to get them all in. Jann, I think the Lean Phase has the toughest workouts I have ever done! They are killers! But I really have to go light on the shoulders, because of the arthritis. I noticed my form suffers if I don't. Eventually, I expect to be able to use heavier weights than I am now. I won't give up!

Hi, there, Beth & Tricia. I hope each of you had a great Memorial Day Weekend, ours was good.

Take care & have a great evening.

Magnolia
