How sad. I know that steriods are out there. My husband and son were devastated when they heard about Manny Ramirez. I was devastated when I heard about Barry Bonds. I guess I just don't get it. I mean these people are athletes. Fitness is their livelyhood. Wouldn't they know how important it is to eat and excersize the right way? I mean it is their 9-5 job? It's harder for us regular folks to fit eating clean and excersize. After all I'm no instructor and I don't get paid for it. I just do it for fun and to set an example for my kids. Don't they know that the side effects to those drugs could really harm their body? I think what makes me sad is knowing that a whole lot of people in fitness and sports probably use this stuff. :(

It's sad too because one of the biggest highs I get from working out really hard and accomplishing something I didn't think I could do is that I DID IT! It's that inner sense of pride that I did what seemed impossible. To know that I had to cheat my way to accomplish something, and that I am hurting myself in the process - I just don't know how the fame or the money could be worth the inner guilt.

It's BECAUSE the get paid for it, that it's their job, that they take steroids.

It reminds me a bit of skinny hollywood actresses, as each one gets thinner and thinner it ups the ante for the next one, so they just keep "outdoing" one another, to get thinner and thinner. The same goes for athletes, the competition is fierce, and records keep getting broken, then more and more athletes start/continue to take drugs to keep up. Looking at baseball players today vs. many years ago, they just don't look the same, these guys today are HUGE.

I'm certainly not condoning it, but I'm not surprised by it. There is no level playing field anymore, and I don't think there is any way back to one, things will generally progress and move forward or they die out, sometimes it's a good thing, but sometimes it is not. It's all about the extremes (stronger, faster, thinner, etc.) these days, and getting there by any means necessary.
