Dog training

When I hired a private dog trainer for my first dog 12 years ago I was so impressed by all the certifications and he was pretty convincing in his presentation and marketing. I wish I had asked for references because he was not a good trainer at all and later I met a lot of people who had similar complaints.

Good luck!

Carola - DH and I did the same thing with our first Boxer, Gunther. We were clueless and went to the guy with all the certs. It was a terrible experience. All he used was aversive techniques (leash popping galore), no positives at all. DH and I both feel so guilty for putting Gunther through it. He also had all kinds of advertising in his place for shock collar systems.

This particular guy also runs a kennel. Last year the local news reported a story about them putting a "no bark" collar on a dog (without the owners' knowledge or approval) and left it on too long. The dog suffered very bad burns to his neck. :(

Same here. The trainer I went to has a large kennel, trained police dogs, and has a very large client list. The guilt of putting my baby through that.:( My poor boxers have had to endure a "learn as I go" dog mom. I've made so many mistakes.
It is a load of crap to say those collars do not hurt! They DO hurt!
