Jess Jugs-A question for you!

Hey Jess!

What have you been wearing on your runs in the cold? I'm doing my first winter 5k next month and need recommendations on what to get. I'm leaning toward Under Armour for tights and shirt. But what about the outer layer? Oh, and I saw that Athleta has a thermal underwire bra top, too. I'm getting overwhelmed.

Anyone else who runs in cold temps, feel free to chime in!

Thanks!

I have no advice because I tend to run outside in the warmer temps and keep it to the treadmill when it gets cold. :p This winter though I will definately be outside more often so I've asked for UA for Christmas. I'd be interested in hearning about suggestions for the outer layer too though! :)

Good luck with your 5k!!!!

Hey girl!! I ran this morning in 27* weather. I wore... a dry-wick tank top, dry-wick long sleeved shirt, and wind check fleece (and was hot by the time I was done, could have ditched the fleece). And dry-wick tights (mine are Nike) are a MUST- have!! I love them! I bought them 2 years ago now, I think I paid around $50 for them but they were the BEST investment for cold weather running! My running buddy just bought a pair of UA tights and she loves them also.

And of course I wear a fleece head wrap (my hair's too thick for hats) and stretchy gloves. I just buy the cheaper Target Champion or Kohl's shirts for tanks and shirts (just make sure it is the dry-wick or wicking material). I love the UA stuff, but it's pricey!

I've run into below 0 temps, I love the chillier weather! Just make sure you take a warm shower when you get back inside! ;) HTH and happy cold weather running. Good luck on your 5K!!

Winter runner here too! Hey, I'd MUCH rather run in cold weather than humid 90 degree stuff. But, then, I live in OH so my blood runs cold, lol..

My very first race was up on Lake Erie this March in 13 degrees after a blizzard. It was beautiful - no wind, crisp blue skies, but lots of ice!

I definitely agree with the tights - I wear mine under shorts (too self-conscious otherwise). UA type of cold gear that is a turtleneck under a wind breaker. I cover my ears if it's chilly (below 40), but my whole head and hands when it gets colder.

Good luck! We have jingle bell run here the first Sat. of Dec. but I fell on our icy deck a couple of weeks ago and bruised my hip badly and I've also had a cold and very annoying cough for 2 weeks as well, so unfortunately running has taken a back seat...

I wear under armor tights & mock turtlenecks and they really do keep you warm. I usually wear shorts or wind pants over the my tights and layers on top depending on how cold it is.

Ditto exactly. Makes for a very comfortable run! I *heart* Under Armour cold gear! I also wear UA gloves and an UA hat... gosh, I really should've bought stock in UA!

Emily! Are you still running in the cold here in IL? :D I haven't decided if I'm going to do the Frostbite 10 mile race or not in Dec. Maybe I need to add the UA gear to my Christmas list. :p

Oh yeah, still runnin' in the cold. :) Although I did stay inside this weekend (just 'cuz I felt like doing CC). But last weekend I ran 10k outside in the bitter, windy cold. Brrrr! I may do the Jingle Bell 5k in December (I did that one 3 years ago - it was my first race EVER - how crazy was I to pick a December race for my first one???? )

UA gear is a really good investment - it's good quality stuff that lasts a long time and it's soooo toasty warm. Definitely add it to your Christmas list!!! :D
