Cathlete
i have a few questions about p90x.
1) should i get the regular p90x before p90x+ or doesn't it matter?
2) can i substitute the pullups with the lat pull down?
3)did anyone find they gained to much muscle mass from this program?

1) Yes, I think the orginal X is a better program overall and I think you should definately start with it. The X+ is good but very different IMO.

2) Yes, in fact Tony shows you how t use tubing to create a lat pull down in place of pull ups if need be.

3) I did not gain too much muscle at all. I used the 12-15 rep range and it was perfect for me. Tony explains the rep range to use depending upon the results that you want. You should be fine.

HTH!:)

I'd say the same thing Wendy did for your first two questions.

For number 3: in general, I loved the way my upper body looked after P90X, BUT I was starting to see some not-as-appealing-to-me growth in my traps (I didn't look anything like a linebacker, but when I was sitting at my computer and looked up in the mirror, I could see more 'stuff' there than I like). And as more of an annoyance than something I didn't find the look of appealing: I had to buy new bras, because I increase the band size from gaining more lat muscle.

(Remember, though, that it's easier to lose muscle size than fat, and if you find you're going in the direction of 'too much muscle mass,' you can change your approach. Also, as that Core Secrets guy says, "size comes from eating," so if you don't increase your calorie intake much, you won't grow as much.)

how many times a week can you do the plyometric workout? i just did it for the first time this morning and LOVED it!!! I wanted to know if it is ok to do it again on thursday or should i do a different leg workout like one of cathe's traditional leg workouts????? i plan on doing an upper/lower split with p90x which is why i'm asking to do plyos twice a week.

Go for it! I see no problem in doing plyo 2x per week so long as you do not have any issues with your knees, etc.

I have begun doing endurance only leg work and am planning for most of my leg work to come from plyo and running! Any traditional exercises I do will be done with light weight or no weight.

what is the difference between p90x and the masters program? are the master workouts good?

P90X is 12 workouts at about an hour each (except YogaX which is 90 min). P90Masters is sort of the next step up from Power 90 and is a set of 6 workouts- Core Cardio, Cardio Intervals, UML (upper middle lower), Sculpt 5-6, Sweat 5-6, and Plyo Legs. They're shorter than P90X (mainly 30-45 min), but still good workouts!

HTH!
