weight watchers VS calorie counting- please share experiences

Hi,
I have been posting mostly on the fitmoms forum and video fitness these days. I am 8 months pregnant and even though I am still working out have gained way too much weight. Plus I was overeweight before I got pregnant. I am at the point where I am itching to get starting as soon as my baby is born to lose this extra fat. I was never overweight before my first child, but after having 2 kids, never losing the weight and getting pregnant a third time I have lots to lose.

Anway, I am trying to decide if I would be better of counting calories or joining weight watchers. My DH is supportive of whatever I decide. Since he does not have to be at work until 1:00 on Tuesdays I could go to weight watchers by myself without the baby. I was thinking it might be good to be accountable to someone else weighing me every week and a nice escape from my 3 small kids to go somewhere without them everweek.

Or should I just count calories which is something I could do on my own.

I would love to hear others experiences good and bad with both calories counting and weight watchers for weight loss.

Thanks!

I highly recommend Weight Watchers. You will have freedom to choose ANYTHING you want to eat as long as you are responsible enough to fit it into your plan. It is a round about way to teach portion control and IT WORKS.
Take time to enjoy those who matter most to you & do all things in moderation :)

I have a friend who was in the same situation as you are now, and she's doing WW and is extremely pleased with the results. She says you can eat loads of food, and that the point system is really easy to follow, she's been losing about 1 to 2 pounds per week.

Apparently the Swedish (that's were I'm at) WW system differs somewhat from the US, in Sweden all veggies and most fruits are zero points. Also if you breastfeed you can add 2 points (I think) for every feeding, so while she was breastfeeding she was eating like crazy and still lost pounds.

From my perspective I think she's a little too obsessed with points and WW, (that's why I know all this stuff). But hey it works and I can really understand her enthusiasm.

Also she didn't start right away after birth cuz she said she didn't have the energy to focus on weightloss (her kid woke up every 2 hours during the night). I think that her son was almost 6 months when she begun.
Good luck!

I've done both, and both are good. The good part about both, is that you are keeping track of what you eat, which is critical. It's been proven that folks who keep track of what they eat and of their workouts are the ones who are successful at KEEPING weight off.
