Tell me about ropes!

They look so fun and it looks like they would be a really good workout. I'm thinking of trying them out, but they are expensive, so I would like to know more about them. How you use them in your workout schedule, what kind of rope you use, where you got it.

Are they fun? Are they a good workout?

Thanks,

Love them

I used it with a trainer and loved it. I don't use it at home because you really need alot of space. I may get one this spring/summer and go outside with it. It's an amazing upper body workout. They sell them on line at some of the fitness stores. They are not cheap; I think like $80 or so.

I've been watching The Biggest Loser, and they do look like fun, but also like something that would be hard to do at home.

Would it be possible to find a thick rope like this cheaper, like in a boat supply store (where would one buy supplies for boating)? I would think the use of them for working out starting with ropes that were already available for another purpose (and I'm thinking that those who sell them as 'fitness equipment' may put a heftier price on them).

Anthony DiLuigio from The Art of Strength (Punch Kettlebell gyms) is all over the ropes. He's released a couple of dvds that incorporate both ropes and kettlebells, and sells a couple of different ropes. They seem to go on sale fairly often. If you're interested, here's the link to his webpage

I've got a few of his kettlebell dvds and love them. I've never tried the ropes, nor am I terribly interested. I've got a hundred other ways to work my upper body that don't require all that space :D .

I have The Art of Strength Wild Black Jack21- This Dvd uses ropes and kettlebells. (there is also a version on the DVD that does the workout with just ropes). I really like my ropes! I most often do this workout in my yard or basement because you need alot of space. I purchased my rope from this online site. https://www.knotandrope.com/store/pc/home.asp The cost was reasonable and they had great customer service. I called them to make sure I was getting the correct rope with the right end caps.

What kind of rope did you get from them?

Kathryn,

I got the red manila rope ( 1.5 in - 40 foot). If you call them they and tell them the ropes are for exercise or ropes gone wild exercises they will know exactly what you need and the proper rope end caps. Make sure you let them know you want the rope ends capped.

Here is a video in which Anthony discusses how to select the rope that is right for you and anchoring solutions for the rope

Thanks, Regina!
I see "manila rope" and "pro manila rope", but no "red" manila rope.

Also, how rough is that rope (it looks pretty rough).
