shoulder work and sore neck ...

Cathe and educated, I did S&H shoulders yesterday, and woke up with a sore neck! I tried to mentally keep my neck relaxed while doing the work out, but that obviously did not work. On top of that, I have verrrrry litttttle DOMS in the shoulders. I used 5 or 8 pound weights for the excercises (except for 3 at the end with the rotational thingys) :)

any suggestions on keeping the neck relaxed during shoulder work? I thought of bringing down the weights, but then am I really going to be working my shoulders to fatigue? Thanks! -Christina
 
It will take longer, but you can try doing one arm at a time. That also takes some stress off the spine.

Also, doing some shoulder rolls (backward, forward and backward again--keeping the shoulder girdle in the back-and-down position for the exercises) could help. Stretching the shoulder/neck area a bit more after the shoulder segment could also help.
