Shelley?

Hi Bobbi!

Actually, it's from Oxygen magazine - the December issue, I think. Do you get Oxygen? I've had to modify it a little, to take the meat out, and also because I don't think 1400 calories a day is enough for me, but I used it before, back around January, and it worked well to help me lean out a bit.

Let me know if you don't have the Oxygen issue and I'll e-mail you a copy of my version:)

Bobbi-
I hope you don't mind if I offer an opinion. The Eat to Live philosophy has been giving me amazing results as far as leanning out goes. Many people have been commenting on my muscles as of late. My muscles were there before, but now they are no longer covered with a layer of fat.

(I suggest getting the book Eat to Live by Joel Furhman out at your local library.)

Thanks, Judy. That just reminded me that I was planning to get that book too! So I guess I'm off to the bookstore today:)

Thank you! I would love a copy. :) Judy, I have read Eat To Live and incorporated some of it. I have been experiencing perimenopausal weirdness and craving simple sugar, in part because I want to workout on an empty stomach and I get ravenously hungry and then go wild. I am thinking it may behoove me to cut out all simple sugar which is odd since I am usually the last one to indulge in simple sugar. I also may do a modified detox as a start. I found one which looks promising in Experience LIfe magazine. Here's a link: http://www.lifetimefitness.com/magazine/index.cfm?strWebAction=article_detail&intArticleId=370

Send that to me and I'll create the perfect diet, Shelley. I thank you in advance. :)

P.S. Check out the archives of Life Time Fitness. I think it's an excellent resource. ;) http://www.lifetimefitness.com/magazine/index.cfm?strWebAction=archive

Judy, I love your avatar! You know, I should check the book out again. It's been ages since I read it and my memory could stand a refresh. I am reading an excellent book called "The Omnivore's Dilemma" which follows four meals from the source to the table, tracing each food chain, the indrustiailly farmed, the organically farmed and a hunter/gatherer offering as well. It is my understanding that the industrially produced meal is hard to read and that is my eternal dilemma, that eating meat is grusome. I am once again eating vegetarian except for a little seafood and a few products like organic sour cream and some cheese. I still have to feed my omnivores meat though. Blech. I have been committed to organics and non-GMOs for years and I am ready to overhaul my diet completely. Thanks for the suggestion. It's a good one. I am very excited about this! :)

Bobbi-
The transition to E2L has been enjoyable. Not counting carbs calories or fat makes it simple. My starches are almost completly whole grain or sproutd bread, but I eat these sparingly. We do have whole wheat pasta at least once per week with many veggies. Generally I roast the veggies or steam them. I am eating some seafood on occaision. If I can get wild caught fish, I fell better about it. All dairy and eggs are out for me. Now my family still eats meat, but my daughters choose it less and less regularly. Even DS numero one prefers to stay away form beef and pork.
It can be prety creative around here at dinner time. Very often my main course is everyone else's side dish, and we all eat large salads nightly.
On pizza day, I will order a pizza with no cheese and it is most often traditional pizza dough. So this is my less than perfect meal, however with no meat or cheeses and mountains of veggies it is isn't as unhealthy as it could be. I have experimented with soy cheese (but I found it has casein in it which is derived from skim milk, so I have discountinued it. x( x( ) Another experiment I have tried is whole wheat pizza dough. I'm still trying to make it from time to time but not as often lately.

Judy, look for Sockeye salmon. Sockeye salmon is not farmed so you know it is not fed corn meal and given foods which make it's flesh unnaturally orange. Also look for Tongol tuna. Tongol tuna are caught small so they do not have the high concentrations of mercury that Albacore do. May I ask why your complex carb intake is so sparing? I eat 60% of my diet from complex carbs and I am slim a s whippet. :) It's the mainstay of my diet. I buy organic free range beef but I prepare that only once or twice per month. It's the same with chicken, though we eat it a lot. I buy free roaming chicken and make sure they eat organic as we do, ;) My kids drink organic fat free milk. I used unsweetend soy milk. I just discovered Renee's Gourmet salad dressings, some of which are not low fat but the fat comes from flaxseed. The Roasted Garlic Cesar is fantastic. My husband loves it and he is ridiculously anti-anything really good for him and hates the way I feed them because it's expensive. He once told me I could purchase regular milk with his blessing. Can you say ewwwwwww?

Actually Bobi-

I probably get more complex carbs than I mentioned. My servings of legumes are substantial. The pasta, the occaisional whole grain wrap and the almost weekly vegan pizza all add up. I also enjoy sweet potatoes, and brown rice, and bulgur wheat (in Tabouleh and veggie chili).

I have quinoa but have not made it yet.

Ah, legumes! :) I love legumes. I made tabouleh tonight. It's funny you should mention it. And fatoush. It's so hot, the summer salad is my favorite way to cook when the heat is on. I am going to make gazpacho soon also. You also reminded me I need to buy yams. I am on day two of the no sugar diet except that found in fruit and veggies and I am enjoying it. I usually don't crave sweets but got into this little cycle of wanting everything sweet and cheating on days which were not my cheat days. I am making up for that and it's amazing how eating really nutritious foods keeps cravings at bay. I am putting the finishing touches on dinner so I will catch you later.
