Good morning,

A bad day yesterday, no workout and I didn't feel well most of the day. Agility class was strange, I was the only one that showed up, so I did what I could then left early. I did go to the play, my brother and SIL had purchased tickets so they could go with us so I didn't want to mess that up.

Valerie, thanks for the link. Its interesting to see all the varieties of Sheppard's Pie. Do you eat your spaghetti squash plain? Horrible about that shooting. We used to subscribe to CL years ago, but after I realized I was not really making much with the recipes, and saving all the magazines was taking up too much room we discontinued it.

Diane Sue, good workouts and great job on the "steps". I would think that you need some sodium daily...but not in excess of course.

Carolyn, I need to dig out those recipes again....just have no real desire to eat nowadays. Hoping that I get a notice that the cookbook you mentioned is in for me to pick up.

Maybe a workout, not sure what yet though....

Take care,

Take care,

Hi everyone--

This morning I did ICE Metabolic (47:53).

Deb, I really hope you get some relief soon. The new medication is not helping?

Lori, it must be so gratifying to have a CEO who sees how good you are at what you do. Nothing like the bad old days. Whatever happened to the former CEO?

Judy, that is wonderful to get such a battery of tests for a minuscule sum of money.

Valerie, that was a long time ago to have bariatric surgery. The article described a variety of new forms of the surgery, and most of them done with laparoscopy. Like Deb, I had a subscription to CL for a few years. I especially liked the feature where they transformed a family favorite recipe to lower the calories. I opted out of jury duty.

Diane Sue, I have read that those step workouts are quite advanced in terms of choreography. I was too scared to try them even though step was my cardio of choice for a long time. I started with a 10 inch step Kim made for me from instructions in the CollageVideo catalogue.

Out to dinner tonight for birthday celebrations. A real chill in the air, maybe frost tonight.

good morning . sorry you didn't feel well yesterday. I didn't two days ago, thought it was the beginning of a head cold, but it turned out to be nothing. I only do weights if I'm feeling marginal. sweating and heavy breathing is off limits. wow solo agility training. probably not real useful as I would think the distraction of other dogs and people is what your dogs have to learn to ignore.

the shooter has been arrested. not Hispanic as first thought, but middle eastern descent. been in trouble for multiple things before this. no terrorism type claims. no idea why someone would just shoot women he didn't know, young and old, in a department store. this is very close to home... I use many of the stores in the area.

there are a million versions of shepherds pie. this is the only one I've ever had. I'm always surprised to find people put meat in them! sometimes I make scratch mashed potatoes for this, and sometimes I use the instant envelope. Idahoan instant ones are good.
I've used spaghetti squash with salt and a little butter. I am sure I found another recipe I liked last year but didn't come across it yet. yep, in my file somewhere. will post when I find it. I keep thinking it had salt and sesame seeds.
I used to subscribe to CL but each issue had such a ridiculous number of recipes you could never try 10% of them. then they changed their format and "dumbed down" IMO, and I let it lapse. I still have a lot of things from the mag. I still get Eating Well magazine. not as much advertising, and more geared to people who aren't newbies in the kitchen.

we'd planned a ride today but weather isn't cooperating so will make it a garden day. we decided we will wait to leave Tuesday morning. weather forecast changed, and I want to watch the debate. seeing it a few days after will not be the same. I do not want to argue politics and candidates here but this may be one of those tipping point events in history. I don't want to miss it.

Good evening ladies!

Yesterday was cathe's most recent Live Ramped Up Cardio and Weights. I liked it but my shoulders were tired towards the end due to heavy ropes the day before. The very last segment was plank pushups. I chose to do deadlifts and squats as I felt my legs needed more. Today was all about Suzanne Bowen. Needed to get my fix!

Deb....well that stinks showing up and being the only one! Hope you get some relief soon. Been too long.

Diane Sue...i never liked the choreographed and dancy step. I have 2 left feet. :( I like step but it needs to be with more athletic moves.

Lynda...the previous CEO moved to San Francisco. Nice and far away. :). Have a great dinner tonight.

Valerie...I have been following the news about the shooting. Glad they got him. So very sad. One of the victims was a 16 year old girl just out shopping. My heart breaks. So scary now a days. I love shepards pie and love all the variations. Was very nice here today..nasty rain last night though.

Have a great night all!!!

Rest day and time with grandchildren today. My 18 year old grandson and 8 year old granddaughter went with me to take Gertie for a walk this afternoon. There was a nice cool breeze. It was in the 70's today. It rained last night and a bit around noon. We really needed the rain. I kept collecting so many magazines. I finally started getting subscriptions downloaded to Zinio. I kept the ones I thought useful when done reading them. I can still go there and get my magazines if I want them. I had quite a few issues of Oxygen Clean Eating Magazine there. I used to keep magazines for a year and throw away ones past that.

Deb, I am so sorry you felt so bad today. I am sure it was hard pushing yourself to do the planned activities. I really hope that you can find what it is that is causing all of this soon. I usually try to keep my sodium around 1500 which is a good range. It is surprising how much sodium one gets without adding it. I became more aware when we had to come up with very low sodium foods when my granddaughter had kidney failure. I worked bread recipes for white bread(her favorite) that would work with as low sodium as possible. It needed some to raise. Most breads that were low sodium we also whole grain and sprouted seed breads and she did not like them. If a recipe calls for salt and I think it needs some I will put half the salt in it.

Lynda, Amy Bento's workouts do have quite a bit of challenging choreography. I can usually get them after a few tries though and they are so much fun and different. One thing she does that helps is spend a good amount of time repeating some of the moves as she breaks them down so you have a chance to learn before moving on. I have had some other instructors workouts that were just too hard to learn. I like to feel like I did a workout when I get done instead of just stumbling around and looking at the television trying to figure out where I am supposed to be. I did have all of the Step Challenge workouts down but the latest one which I have hardly done yet. My husband made me my first step bench. It was 8 1/2 inches when he was done. It worked pretty well. He routed the edges so there were not rough edges and put a no slip top on it. He saw me trying to do step on a step stool and thought I should have something else.

Valerie, I saw the shooting on the news today. It is so frightening thinking that any of our families could just be shopping or anywhere and something like that happen. I bet it does give you more anxiety going to those places to shop. I keep some of those bags of frozen mashed potatoes for times when I do not need a lot. I just pull out some. I rarely eat them so it works when I am using them for just my husband. They seem more like fresh cooked mashed potatoes than the instant variety.

Lorie, surprisingly Hip Hop Walk is not hard. It more walking with a bit of a bounce to it and arm movements. She puts in 3 faster pace Intervals where they slow the music and the moves get more active. These are timed Intervals. I was surprised how much it got my heart rate up. I do not generally go out of my way to purchase tough choreography, but I have always liked Amy's stuff. I rarely like anything dancy.

Good morning,

A beautiful day weather wise yesterday...did some errands, and laundry, but not much else.

Lynda, how was the birthday dinner? Will your favorite restaurant be starting the comfort food Sundays soon? not sure whether the new medication is really helping much....I am out of things to do. I don't understand why I can have a really good day, and then the next one is horrible. I have eliminated so many foods, that I barely eat at all, and that is not helping me in other ways.

Valerie, glad your symptoms did not turn into a full blown cold. A solo agility class was good, I got to work on specific issues without holding up other students/dogs. Good that they got that shooter...I didn't read how they found him.

Lori, I looked at the clip of that recent Live...it did look like a lot of shoulder work.

Diane Sue, I never knew there was an online place to keep magazines. That is interesting. Is it like a membership that you pay for to have the storage? I don't get any periodicals any more, found that I don't read them and hate having them hanging around. John gets enough for 2 people and hates throwing them away...How has Gertie been?

Working at my cousin's today for a few hours...otherwise nothing much here...

Take care,

Deb, you just get the Zinio app and set up an account. I first learned about it through Oxygen magazine. Now I also have a Zinio for libraries app and I can check out magazines. Even current ones. I have Zinio on my computer and on my devices and I can get my magazines any time.
Gertie is doing well, we are sticking with the Castor and Pollux Ultra Mix Duck grain free and I an Love And You wet which is just usually a spoonful. If I run out of canned we use chicken. Treats are castor and Pollux grain free gluten free, sausage bites and at night salmon . I think her last little but may have been chewing on some toadstools I did not realize were outside. I found a couple uprooted. Now I scope the yard. The seem to have let up though. Thankfully. Since I see no issues with the food, the problem has to be something else when it happens. She had a weekend of excitement with the little ones here. She also got some lessons on obeying two year old Micah's commands of no and wait when he goes up and down the stairs. It is funny how dogs will look at the adult and the child to see if they need to obey. Olivia was doing commands with treats and Gertie would look at me at first. She got it quickly after a couple of treats from Olivia.

Deb, dietary changes and some healing take a bit of waiting which is not easy to do when you are miserable. I wonder if it could be something else. How long did you say the doctor wanted to wait? I know the frustration of reading and searching out every thing to try to make things better. I do that with the coughing. I have been to doctors off and on for years without help. I cough so hard at times I almost vomit and my throat is raw. Chunky food irritates my throat and sets it off. But it is always during allergy season. I had one doctor years ago that kept putting it down as chronic bronchitis. He would do chest x rays every time and give me erythomyacin and sometimes prescription cough syrup with codeine. That worked temporarily , but is not a safe answer. Then all kinds of allergy medicines. I forgot till my husband mentioned it that at one time I did have some patch tests for allergies. I don't think there was anything in them that helped. So, I am still on that hunt for help. The coughing exhausts me.

Deb as a precaution I took some of the slo melt zinc lozenges Lynda always mentions, a little vitamin c and an antihistamine. whatever it was ( nothing) was gone the next day. so some temporary congestion that irritated my throat and nose. felt like the beginning of a head cold.

Deb, it sounds like the medication is not helping much. do you think you could call your gastro guy and see if he will move up the endoscopy? or maybe he has other meds you could try. the 28th sounds like a long way off.

Diane sue I have bad grass allergies. my throat and inner ears would get raw and itchy, lots of coughing. Once it got started, it kept going and often resulted in tonsillitis. I finally got my tonsils removed in my mid 20's. it was unpleasant but worth it. I quit golfing and lawn mowing. I limit exposure to grass. it seldom bothers me anymore. I didn't want to take antibiotics and get sick constantly. I had the skin testing... not sure what they do these days . also desensitization shots. I had sensitivities to a lot of strange things, but the grass was the main one.

the shooting guy sounds like a social misfit who took out his anger on strangers. He was spotted on the street in another town by a sheriff who arrested him without further incident. he happens to be of middle eastern background but does not sound like anything to do with terrorism.

Yesterday was my rest day and today my workout was Hard Strikes. I had not done that one in a while. It seems that Cathe's kickboxing DVDs have just enough variety in the moves to keep me trying different ones. I want to try the Live workouts but I am not ready to commit to that. I have so many DVDs that I need to review and try. Some I have never used.

That Seattle mall shooting was horrible and now I see that there was another one in Houston this morning.

Deb is your appointment this week?

Valerie, thanks for the link to that food forum. I looked at it briefly and it looks very interesting.

Hello to everyone.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did ICE RS with 1 lb. gloves (47:59).

Deb, we had a lovely time at dinner and were late getting home. They don't start the Comfort Sunday meals until after fall foliage season is over and the leaf peepers are gone for another year. Maybe Valerie is right and you should get that endoscopy sooner to make sure nothing more serious is going on.

Diane Sue, do you have any part of the year when your allergies are not bothering you? That just sounds miserable to be coughing like that. I really don't know how you manage to do such great workouts with those allergy symptoms.

Lori, your former CEO is a continent away--and good riddance! Boy fall sure arrived in a hurry. I guess you will get a bit of warm weather though when you head down to Florida.

Valerie, you might like the Zicam quick melts even better. They really zap oncoming colds and they don't upset my stomach. The Cold-eez lozenges sometimes made me queasy.

Carolyn, there just seem to be too many guns everywhere and anyone can get one and terrorize people just going about their business. After awhile I think our expectations are so low that another shooting somewhere sounds like it's normal.

Spoke with DR's office this morning, moved the procedure up to 10/13..and possibly changing meds. The Dr is on vacation, but the med assistant said she would send him a message and see if he wants to try a different med in the meantime.

Today I did the workout mix that I had mentioned. So, today was workout A. This one hits some back and lots of glutes and the back of the legs along with abs. I will be doing this one again Friday and Wednesday I have a different one that is pretty much all from Amy Bento's Slo Mo but has the addition of some French press for the triceps. That one will get more of the quad area. It will have other upper body work in it.
The workout went like this: (all from Cathe) 85 minutes, 340 calories. I really felt the calories should have been more but with things like weights the Fit Bit measures only heart rate. I do find by the end of the day I still average a good amount of calories so I guess the metabolism has risen enough to make it pretty even. On another note I wore my Fit Bit Blaze to bed last night because I forgot about it. It said I slept 4 hrs and 36 minutes. awake once (I got out of bed) restless 16x ( drinking sips of water and getting throat lozenges) Last time I did this it was similar sleeping patterns but awake 3 times and restless 14. I doubt I really need a watch to tell me how little I sleep. It is sort of pathetic.
Lower Body Blast
warm up
front lunge pick up 10#
split jump
8# high step adding 3 sets of reverse lunge off of the step with 15's while Slow and Heavy loads
Slow and Heavy back
Dumbbell Row 8 reps 3 sets 30's; 25's 25's (this is so much harder than 1 arm at a time)
Deadlift 8 reps 3 sets 30's
Cathe's Butts and Guts using the mix and match menu throughout
firewalkers using the blue firewalker band
bonus lower body
sit and stand 45# barbell 10 reps
leg press 2 sets high step with 5 risers 20# 16 reps
stability ball glute squeeze prone
Lower Body floorwork -ankle weight work I used 5#dumbbell and then for the ankle weight segment 5# ankle weights.
Core with 5# ankle weights and 5# and 8# dumbbells
Stretch

Valerie, I understand you wanting to stay away from grass. I have tried to stay in and not do much of my outdoor yard work myself this summer. I like doing it, but even with the mask on my nose starts dripping, eyes watering, and I am coughing behind the mask. My grandson has been busy and right now my morning glories in front are creeping out of the planter and up the walkway with long grass weeds coming out of the planter. It needs cleaned up and the back mowed. I am not wanting to go out there. That itching is sometimes all through my sinues. I feel it in my inner ears as well. I think the only time I ever had tonsillitis was when I was a child. We were in a hotel when we first moved to England and some liquor ridden British doctor came to the hotel to see me. I was really sick and it stays in my memory. The man did not smell good. I think when I go to my next physical that I need to request an allergy specialist or something. It has been with me pretty much my whole life. My younger daughter always tested positive for strep. I guess she was a carrier because she did not get sick. Her daughter was always getting it. Finally her and her daughter got their tonsils removed. Now my grandson, 2 has strep. He acted fine but he had been telling her "my mouth, my mouth" She decided to have him checked out Friday before he was originally supposed to come over and it was strep. She got him on the antibiotic for over 24 hours before she let him come to my house. Did you have to go in regularly to have the desensitization shots?

Carolyn, I rarely have workouts that I have not tried right after I receive them. I am always anxious to try them out. I had not heard about the other shooting in Houston. It makes me want to stay home.

Lynda, it seems like the allergy symptoms have started lasting longer and longer. Generally I get anywhere from 3-8 weeks somewhere through July and August. I get a short time during winter months. But then somehow there ends up being a cold or two stuck in there. That also depends on how wet it is or how much of the season it freezes. Also I find fireplaces lit make me cough. Maybe it is stuff in the wood. I noticed that our gas fireplace made me cough last year when we first lit it. I think it may have been burning off the dust and stuff from the year. Also my husband forgot to open the damper last year and I distinctly remember that it sort of left a cloud and all of that smell rose upstairs since our ceiling goes to the upper floor in the living room. It would be wonderful to feel normal again. What types of foods do they serve for comfort Sunday's?

Diane sue that is what I was hinting at... maybe you should see an allergist and find out definitely what you are allergic to. my testing was a long time ago, around the mid 1970's but it really helped me to find out exactly what I was sensitive to. I tried antihistamines but they didn't help much. maybe you're not avoiding something you need to avoid and causing yourself unnecessary grief.

Deb, have you ever heard of the bacteria Helicobacter pylori? it causes stomach problems, ulcers and other things. nausea, heartburn. however, I'm not a gastroenterologist last time I checked! maybe simple reflux isn't the problem. glad to hear you moved it up.
Lynda I need to look at what I bought.. I think it was zicam quick melts. sort of orange flavored? they aren't hard to take. this was a false alarm, not really a head cold.

Did a 26 mile ride this morning. will leave tomorrow for a couple days of hiking and a mt bike.

Good morning,

I worked a few hours at my cousins yesterday, but it was hard going. Funny, I took one of the pills about a half hour before dinner, it helped a lot, ate and I felt good after dinner and slept great. Maybe it's a timing thing with these meds.

Diane Sue, if there were magazines I liked a lot, I think getting them from the library would be the best option. You get to read them, then give them back....kind of like I do with books. I don't think I would like to read them online. Glad Gertie is doing well. I see we have a couple of those large toadstools in our yard...I have to remember to get rid of them! I hope you find out what is the trigger for the coughing..it has to be so frustrating.

Valerie, good you were able to ward off that cold! Have a safe and fun trip.

Carolyn, I think you would like the Live workouts, but be careful....they are addicting! LOL..:)

Lynda, I thought that as well....pretty soon shootings will be common place, like in the Middle East..."oh well, another shooting"...this is so scary...

I bought a bunch of fresh veggies, and I think I will get a good mix steamed so they are ready to eat with lunch and/or dinner. I need to figure out a salad dressing to make with avocado, no oil...Maybe a workout.

Take care,

So far I have done Party Rockin Step 1, 54 minutes, 400 calories. I had cardio on my rotation for today. Originally it was supposed to be kettlebell cardio or Hiit. I was so tired and the Party Rockin Step workouts are always a good choice when I feel like that. I think I got even less sleep last night than the 4 hr 39 minutes the Fit Bit gave me the night before. I had to hurry because my husband has someone coming to price some stuff around the house. I still have flexibility work on the schedule so I will do that after he is gone.

Deb, have you heard back from your doctor's office yet? One thing about some of the magazines that can be downloaded is they have video that you can view. I have purchased Self magazine ad some others that would have video workouts on them. I prefer reading the real magazine an real books but it does clutter and I am not likely to read them more than once so library works great whether I choose to go there or download and view digitally. I still purchases special book studies and a few paper cookbooks though. Reference type stuff that I may want to share.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did live Ramped Up Cardio and Weights (45 min.). I really liked this one--gets the job done. Lori is probably right that you should do some extra leg work, so maybe I will do a legs workout tomorrow. Very proud of my plank pushups at the end. Did them all.

Deb, any instructions on taking your meds with a meal? If that worked for you, it's worth trying again. Good that your endoscopy was moved up. I drop off my old magazines at the medical clinic waiting room. They are usually much appreciated.

Valerie, yes, those are the Zicam quick melts (you said 'slow' in your original post, so I thought you were referring to Cold-eez). Have fun on your mini-vacation!

Diane Sue, that sounds like a chronic problem. I think I understand why you spend so much time researching food. I would too if I had allergies that only gave me a few weeks a year relief from coughing and eyes itching and sinus and inner ear issues. Kim has been coughing lately because it's ragweed season here. His other allergy is to scallops and crab. He does okay with shrimp, but he stays away from lobster too.

Carolyn, are you thinking of subscribing to Cathe live? I agree with Deb--they are addictive and there are so many to choose from.

Beautiful day here!

Hi Everyone,
No workout for me today. I woke up with a terrible headache and dizziness. I get these sometimes when the barometric pressure changes. We are finally getting a taste of fall weather which I love, but my allergies and sinuses don't like it. I'm sure I will be fine tomorrow.

I always look at the clips of Cathe's live classes and think how much I would enjoy them. I guess I am considering subscribing!

Hope you are all having a good day.

I just did 21 Day Fix Extreme Yoga for my flexibility work today. My energy is gone right now. Hopefully I get a burst soon. I tried the Sprouts pumpkin pasta sauce last night. It was okay but there is a bit of a cinnamon taste in there and I am not fond of the fact that they put agave nector in it. In my opinion it would have been good without the sweet taste. I put it on spaghetti squash and ended up sprinkling some parmesan cheese shreds and lots of pepper and a little salt on. That made it better. It was disappointing. I loved the pumpkin butter though. I have not tried the salsa yet. I hope it does not have cinnamon and sweetener in it.

Lynda, all of the allergens are high right now, ragweed, grass, pollen, tree, mold, all of them. I tired to take a nap this afternoon but I started coughing and gave up. I would hate to find I was allergic to shellfish. I love all of it. I will say that the histamine intolerance foods list said not to eat it. No seafood and no cured, smoked, processed, or fermented meats. Shellfish is also on the foods to not eat during seasonal allergies list as well. I had mahi mahi last night. It is not shellfish though. I keep thinking maybe I should go back to the histamine intolerance foods, but it is hard. It is very limiting.

Carolyn, it has cooled off quite a bit here as well. I hope the headache and dizziness improve quickly.
