Pentagenarians & Beyond W/B: 7/6

Hi Ladies,

I'm in bed watching the news and having a cup of coffee :). My grandkids left yesterday and I'm exhausted, but in a good way. I miss them already. Today I'm taking my brother back to Palm Springs and plan to stay the night and go to the casino for some R & R ;).

I will not be working out until Saturday-Wednesday and then start to pull out the clothes for my trip. I already have an idea of what I'm taking, but I don't want to over do it. We are leaving on Wednesday evening.

Deb, I think that you are on retirement mode and that is why you are mixing the days ;)

Garance, I am interested on The Bridge and Extant. I will have to catch up when I get back from vacation.

Hi to Valerie, Judy and Lori!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did All Out Low impact Hiit and Core 1 (49:33). No walk last night--just pouring rain.

Josie, if I remember correctly, Spain is pretty hot this time of year. It's always so difficult to pack for weather.

I enjoyed Extant last night, but recorded The Bridge, so I will watch tonight.

Deb, I agree with Josie--you are dreaming of retirement and then waking to another reality. Glad you are enjoying VM. I think Kristen Bell was the voice of a sister in Frozen.

How is Nilla doing, Lori?

Good afternoon ladies!

Did 30 minutes of Barre this afternoon and not sure what I'll be doing tonight.

Nilla is doing well. They think it may be Kennel Cough although we can not figure how she got it. She has had the yearly vaccination plus she does not associate with any other dog other than chester. The Doctors says my son or even I could have picked it up from a friends dog. So she now has three more pills to take in addition to what she already has. We will do this for two weeks and see if things improve.

Lynda I spoke with the doctor about the dasaquin and I placed my order today on amazon. They were certainly cheaper than the vet. Extant looks good. Good luck with your last treatment!

Deb...funny we posted at the same time!

Josie..so exciting going to Spain! I have never been but would like to some day. Glad you enjoyed your grandchildren.

Valerie...one of these days all the antena stuff will just start working beautifully for you. I feel you are close!!!!!

Judy...I watched a few minutes of Cathe live today and It looks like a great one.

Have a good afternoon all!

Ha I never know what day it is... unless I look at my watch! No, I don't use my phone for that.

we found the issue is our modem. apparently there was some recent upgrade and our rental modem is not working properly. DH started having trouble with his computer too so we started thinking the problem might be somewhere in the chain of devices before Apple TV and Hulu plus. need a cable service guy to install it because there is some issue for the land line also otherwise we could just buy a modem and quit the rental fee. will learn more tomorrow. ...good to know it was not us doing something stupid. we also want someone to possibly simplify the hook up because it was set up 20 yrs ago for a totally different situation and maybe we can change for the better.

ETA Josie ( and anyone else doing summer air travel) I just read an article a couple days ago that several airlines have changed the dimensions of allowable carry-ins. Not a big number change but the writer could not use the roll a board he'd used for years of travel. out of curiosity I measured mine and it's too big for some airlines. they went from 15 inch width to 14inch. sounds minor, but he had to check his bag instead. I've used this bag for 15 years, and it's a standard size, 15 inches wide. Just something to be aware of. check your airline to be sure rather than get surprised at the gate. I'll try to find a link to the article.

this is not the exact article but close enough. http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/blog/by-author/3799732/george-hobica/

this is a huge rip off... one inch?? even if your bag is shorter or not as deep the total volume is less, they are being sticklers about 14 inches wide. How many millions of people will have to buy new bags because of this? the 2 airlines I usually use are not affected yet... they're more generous but I have 2 standard 15x22 roll aboards. I never check luggage and it ticks me off that I might need to replace them.

Happy Friday!

Glad it's Friday, but tomorrow is a baby shower, and I will have to miss class. :(

Josie, ahhhh...coffee in bed...all you need is a couple of bon-bons! how decadent is that?

Lynda, I think you are right, retirement has been on my mind lately. One of my employees is retiring after 45 years, and I have to give some sort of speech at the party..ugh...I hate speeches. I have no idea what to say. I am so awed with someone like you that goes to England and speaks! How do you do it?

Lori, glad Nilla is doing better. Kennel cough...strange.. I never heard of it being transmitted though people, but I guess you never know.

Valerie, there are going to be a lot of angry travelers. I hope the new carry on I bought ( and my old favorite for that matter) still conform. Buy your own modem, it may fix the problem and cut another tie to the cable company as well as save you the monthly rental fee.

Hi to Judy!

Work, then agility tonight. Anyone have any fun plans for the weekend?

I'm hoping this will be a flash point for a bit and then settle down. if they have "size boxes" bags need to fit it, it might be a permanent change. A lot of people will be ticked off, me included. I used to use a garment bag but those became unacceptable sometime in the 90's, not sure why.
we have a black rectangular bag.... like almost everyone who travels, and also a rolling duffle. the 2 airlines I use (SW and Alaska) allow larger carry-ons. Alaska usually gate checks the roll-aboards next to the plane and you pick it up plane side at the destination. the bags are in cargo but are right there for you when you arrive I don't remember when I last checked a bag! these are smaller planes so it works nicely.

I agree I thought kennel cough was a virus transmitted dog to dog, didn't know people could carry.

apparently we'd need to buy 2 modems and maybe a new router, which would be fine with me if it fixes the problem. more after our service call sometime this morning.
our cousin recently had a similar problem where suddenly his modem didn't work due to changes at comcast. can you imagine if Comcast and time-warner merge??

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Flextrain (56:36).

Deb, I think giving memorial speeches is probably much harder than what I do. I lecture on a film, a poem, a play--something to convey information and spark dialogue. 45 year is a long time, so their must be something anecdotal about your colleague from all those years.

I had not heard that about the bags, Valerie. Something new to bother everyone.

My younger son is here this weekend, principally to play golf with his grandfather, but it's great to see him. It's been awhile. I made a really lovely rice salad from my Silver Palate cookbook that I had never made before. DH and DS loved it with their grilled pork chops last night.

Lori, I hope that Dasaquin helps Chester. It really made a difference for our little wild man. We almost had ACL surgery, but when we started this stuff, he just stopped limping after a week. He just runs too fast we think and strains his muscles, gets a little stiff, and then recovers.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Good evening ladies!

This morning was Ruthless core and flex and this evening was walking chester. He was full of energy so we went but took it easy.

Lynda...I am hoping it helps him. I remember when max hurt himself. Gald to hear he has completely recovered.

Deb...I never heard of kennel cough being transmitted that way either. I am wondering if I was to pet a dog with it and the virus lingers on me? Or perhaps during chester's walk we came across a dog that had it and he brought it home but did not come down with it? I guess we will never know. Her cough seems to be practically gone since we started the meds on Wednesday.

Valerie...I heard that on the news the other day. I just bought a new carry on so I probably should measure it. I will be a little aggravated if it is too big. Good that you found the issure with the modem. Sorry that you need to buy more but I am with you if it fixes the problem then so be it.

No plans for the weekend. I have some vinyl fencing I want to put up. Maybe I can talk my DS into helping me.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Have a great weekend ladies!!!!!

Good morning,

Happy Weekend all! Today I have a baby shower brunch to go to. Never had one as a brunch but don't mind, breakfast food is my favorite.

Valerie, we used to use garment bags too, that was before the wheeled bags were the thing. Now, the big thing is the 4 wheeled very light bags that you can pick up with one finger. Like these: RIMOWA. These are the bags that we have thousands of in our warehouse that we do the annual inventory on. They are great, but very expensive. Lots of knock offs out now. They are the "in" thing in Europe and Asia. Good luck with the service call today, I hope they get it all working correctly.

Lynda, have fun with your DS this weekend.

Lori, glad Nilla has recovered nicely. Still a mystery as to how she got it, but if the meds worked, great.

Hi to Judy and Josie,

Have a great weekend!

Good Morning Everyone,

Things are easing up a little now that FIL's house is on the market. Just a few little things to do there, but taking care of that house is finally over!
We haven't been able to work on the basement gym yet but I think we will have time soon. Having the turbo tower down there is a big incentive to finish this project. I'm hoping to have the gym set up by fall.

I tried to do the Cathe live workout Thursday but our internet connection went down right after the warmup. I switched to Muscle Endurance and did that instead. Yesterday I did XTrain Ride. That was a great workout!

Today, DH and I are going to "Art in the Park", http://artinthepark.com/,
we are going to walk there as it's only 2 miles away and the parking is a nightmare. The weather is perfect too!

Josie-hope you have a great trip!

Lorie-I hope Nilla gets better soon and that the Dasaquin works for Chester. Amazon is definitely cheaper than the vet's office. I learned that the hard way. When Tiger was sick, the vet recommended a supplement that cost $75 and of course we bought it. Later I looked it up on Amazon and we could have gotten it for less than half that price.

Valerie-I haven't flown in almost 13 years. So much has changed since then, I'm not sure I'd ever want to fly again.

Hi to Lynda & Deb,

Have a great weekend!

Judy

Judy I don't like to fly either, but some distances make it the only reasonable way. I can usually fit what I need in a carry on and that removes worry about whether your bag will get there when you do. gives you more leeway if flights get changed or cancelled.... you don't need to worry your bag will get lost. it happened to me many times way-back-when and when carry on bags showed up, I jumped in immediately. it was so stressful to fly to a business meeting in Florida and have your bag go to Atlanta! (Try buying clothes in an unfamiliar location while attending an all day business meeting) It happened to numerous people every single meeting, when their bag did not show up on the luggage carousel. I've done carry on since.
the baggage line that Deb mentioned (RIMOWA) is the brand the guy who wrote the article uses. he said their line has no bags that fit the new criteria. some of their bags are smaller and not as deep but for some reason someone got stuck on the "14 inch" idea. it feels like a rip off from the luggage industry to force almost everyone to purchase a new bag! 10 minutes in any airport will show you most people travel with roll-aboards only.

I had to get my car fixed ( slow leak in tire) while DH dealt with the cable but it went OK. we have a new modem and need a new router though this one works better if it's upside down. apparently routers sent signals vertically and the main set up is in my office upstairs, so upside down works better. for a reason I don't understand we need a modem from them because we need two modems, one for phone and one for internet. there are new router-modem combos but they don't work well. we are streaming news well and feel we can return the cable box soon. we will price routers first but that will require us to re-hook up and reset things again so no rush. DH understands what we're doing but I have some gaps...
