Good morning,

Started the Beachbody 21 Day Fix workouts, just for something different. Maybe do the first week and see how it goes.

Lynda, I posted the question on the Legs DVD over at the "newest workout" forum....chime in and tell them about yours as well....maybe like us, others had not tried this premix yet.

HouseMax and making the dog's food is on the list for today, and maybe going to Best Buy to get a new printer. The cartridges for the one we have are no longer available, even at Office Depot. HP apparently discontinued making the model, so all you can get are the refilled ones. I got a color one on Amazon, and it messed up all my printing. I gave them a bad review and the seller contacted me and said he would give us a refund. Still doesn't make them print better!

Take care,

Hello! I am looking for a check-in group to join. I am a pentagenarian. :) Are you all interested in a new member? I work a crazy schedule so I'm not sure I can check in every day, but I'd like to.

Thanks,
Steph

Good morning ladies! I missed a couple of days and I feel like it has been ages since I posted!
Been good with my workouts. Still following SB's Spring Challenge and Cathe Live and RWH. Not sure what I'll be doing today. Yesterday turned really nice here after the little snow storm past so Chester and I went for a 2 mile walk. Felt so nice to get out before it gets really cold again!

The videos are a lot of work.To me the hardest part is finding the perfect music to go with it. Yesterday I finished up a 4 minute video I called "Dad". My dad (or Uncle Red to my cousins) passed in 1965 so I wanted a tribute to him and I think this by far may be my best yet. My family is so fortunate that our uncles had the means and insight to capture/preserve memories on film back then. Some of the film I am using dates back to the early to mid 40's as my dad was only about 10-12yrs. How many families have this? Nice to see our grandparents and aunts and uncles so young. I shared this with my brothers and cousins. Everyone called/emailed to share their joy/tears after watching. Was wonderful.

Lynda...I saw you posted about the abs issue in the dvd. This makes sense. The premix I like has the strength, blast then abs all the way thru. You end up doing both bonus abs. I like this one a lot. I actually need a new dress for my niece's wedding. Thanks for the code.

Deb...you did great when you did the 21 day rotation. Will you be following the eating plan or just the workouts? A coworker bought this program and showed me all the containers. That would be too much work for me! Good for you if you can do that. I guess that is why I am enjoying SB and Cathe live. There is always something new each week which helps with the boredom factor I get frequently with rotations. The cost of these 2 sites is worth the expense to me for this very reason.

Valerie...so happy that your shoulder has improved enough that you feel you can stop PT ! That is such great news. What a fiasco with this plumbing project. Glad all turned out ok. Like you said it could have been terrible.

Judy...hope your hip is improving.

Hi to Josie!

Welcome Steph.. we don't all check in every day. Do what ever works for you. we're very accommodating.

Lori what a lovely project to do for your family. MY SIL did something like that with some old footage and it was fun to watch.

I'm going back and forth some days good, others not as good. I can't get another cortisone shot until late april. I can do therapy at home and not pay $40 copay each visit. I did therapy exercises and core 1 yesterday. we were busy on a project most of the day.

It all started with dinner Thursday night... curried sweet potato/ kale dish. I cleaned every inch of the cook top, pot, countertop, exhaust fan. still smelled like curry Friday. every time I walked near the cooktop I smelled it. we looked at the exhaust fan .. decided that HAD to be the problem. started taking it apart to clean it more thoroughly. OMG.... what a disgusting, sticky, greasy, hopelessly filthy mess. I had no idea the inside could look like that. It looked like something out of a horror movie. I always clean the accessible parts but this was beyond anything I have imagined. off to Lowes. spent much of the day installing it. the new style is much more "sealed" so hopefully won't build up grease like the old one. we are mostly vegetarian. I had no idea it could get so fouled from sautéing vegies and boiling pasta. I thought the washable filters caught most of the oils.

also got bathroom towels in a nice brown color called latte. they look great in the bathroom.

going to go run or ride this morning between rainstorms.

Good morning everyone!

Hi Stephie! Welcome!

My doctor wanted me to go to physical therapy before getting an MRI, probably an insurance issue. I'm starting to feel a little more soreness deeper in my mid hamstring, almost feels like a muscle strain. I wonder if the physical therapy/stretching is doing something to change things. My PT did say that I might feel new areas of pain/soreness as we work through this. I am also using a balance board as per the PT.

http://www.amazon.com/Tone-Fitness-HHBA-TN002-Balance-Board/dp/B004X166K0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427033921&sr=8-1&keywords=balance board

Doing lots of housemax today so that will probably be my workout.

Judy

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, Judy, and welcome Stephie--

This morning I did BarreAmped (68:00). As usual, did not do all of the stretch segment.

That code runs out at midnight. I especially like all the reviews on Boden's clothes at their website. If you don't like it after you try it on, returns are free with this coupon, as is the shipping. I didn't order anything this time because it's still too cold to wear the dress I bought earlier with one of their coupons. Yesterday was in the 40s, today in the teens and an awful wind chill. Brrrr! Spring is not here yet.

I guess the premix on legs I chose alternates between the legs and the core, or at least that was the response I received over at the other forum. I will have to check it out. Thanks, Lori, for the heads up on that other premix. That might be a little too long for me and I'm not a big fan of the second core workout.

Deb, good luck on that rotation. Didn't you start this one once before?

Valerie, I never paid for PT. I thought it was covered by Medicare. Maybe it's just my additional insurance that covers it, because I don't have any copays for anything. It's a retiree plan set up by the college. If the curry smell bothers you, you might set out a bowl of white vinegar, which is supposed to absorb odors. But then, maybe the smell of vinegar is equally noxious??

Judy, I hope you get some relief soon. My younger son had to do balance board work for his torn ACL. I think it is supposed to help the hamstrings, make them less tight.

Out to dinner tonight.

I am Medicare plus a supplement ( United) and my co pay is $40. I was surprised it was so much. also getting a bill for a mamm for some reason ... a portion of it is not covered. a minor lab screening test ordered by the Derm was "denied". I HATE arguing with insurance about what is or is not covered. I have not had this happen before but seems this year is starting out badly. I had PT a long time ago for ACL rehab and I think my copay was $10....

Lynda the curry smell bothers me when it hangs around for days. when I make my coffee I don't want to smell 2 day old odors. I'm sure the smell got absorbed by the greasy coating inside the exhaust fan. No way in the world to clean it. I like my new fan much better and expect it will be good for many years . I 'll remember the vinegar for next time.... with a clean fan, it has a chance of working.

did a little beach walk this morning looking at ducks, eagles. very pleasant and quiet. heard a loon calling. such a lovely sound. unfortunately, raining again. this week looks wet and mid 50's but I'm not complaining. sounds like a mt bike week.

ETA did Pedal Power the whole thing, about 60 min plus my therapy exercises. I need to give myself a few more seconds between some of the songs to let my heart rate down a bit but I keep pedaling, just less intensely. the intensity of these workouts are related to the tension and how fast your pedal so seem to be endlessly adaptable. I like to stay under 150. not a lot, but some.

Good morning!

Nice weekend, it was very cold but lots of sunshine so it made up for it.

Stephie, Welcome to the group! We are open to anyone that wants to chat.

Lori that video tribute to your Dad sounds wonderful. For now I am just doing the 21 Day Fix workouts. There are 7, (and a bonus Plyo one which I will skip), all 30 minutes. I am trying to keep to the NG eating plan and I feel so much better. I have only done it for 3 days now, but sleeping better again, and the sugar craving is gone.

Valerie, that is interesting that you have a $40 copay, others are less that are on Medicare. Who do you get the Medicare supplement from? I heard from a couple of people that AARP has the best plan. We need to research as John will be 65 in October and FedEx will no longer keep him on my heath care plan. I bet you are glad you replaced that vent...I am amazed at the projects you take on! My assistant at work's DH cleans the exhaust fans/vents in restaurants, it's his business. If George tells you NOT to go to a restaurant, we don't go there. He sees it all in the vent cleaning/kitchen up keep.

Judy, that board sounds interesting, there must be some type of workout that goes with it? Believe it or not, we use something similar to train the dogs in agility. For them, it's to get them to do the teeter totter and not be afraid of it!

Lynda, I guess we both asked about the premix and got the same answer. I'm glad it wasn't our DVD's!

Josie, thinking about you and your family.

Take care,

Lori-the video tribute to your dad sounds wonderful! My FIL was one of the few people who was capturing video and one of DH's projects this year was to have all of the movie reels transferred from 8 mm to dvd/computer format. One of the films was of DH being brought home from the hospital after he was born, in 1960. Also, all kinds of weddings and family get togethers in the 60's. My family didn't have the means to do this, so I truly appreciate the significance of it. Anyone who has this kind of record of themselves and their parents at an earlier age is truly blessed.

I wish I understood the system better. here, you need to have supplemental policy in addition to medicare. very few clinics will accept anyone with straight medicare. vision and dental are separate. there are people who make careers out of counseling others on negotiating the system. I have United Healthcare. there was no monthly premium the first year, and this year after we somehow missed a signup period. they claimed they notified us but we never saw anything. I am paying $55 a month. not ridiculous but the $40 for PT seemed high to me. my copay to see a specialist is $50.

Deb, I knew restaurants have awful grease build up in their vent systems because they do such high volume cooking, and a lot of it high temp grilling and frying. the grease build up must be horrendous. fires are not uncommon. I can believe now that a professional service to clean vent systems is necessary. admittedly our fan is 25 y/o but we eat very low fat, I don't deep fry or grill anything over the cooktop. I grill chicken occasionally but on a barbecue outside. so this must be residue from boiling water, pasta, sautéing vegies. really low key stuff! a huge wake up call. the new fan is very smooth and "enclosed" so maybe less grease will accumulate. I feel so silly thinking the filters would catch it all.

Lynda I don't mind vinegar. I love curry but I can smell it from a mile away. I have trouble smelling many common odors but curry I pick up like a bloodhound.

probably mt biking this morning. but too dark out yet to see. going to replace faucets in our guest bathroom and add a shower door to the tub so we can get rid of the shower curtain. I didn't realize we subjected our guests to such an inefficient set up. water gets on the floor no matter how you work the curtain.

also we discovered immediately that our new shower is very slippery. a big surprise it's even sold that way. it's dangerous! we are getting a spray that adds on some texture. ridiculous that a new product, used as it should be, is sold with a deadly slippery surface when wet. no warnings. reading online reviews we are not the only people who think this. we were careful when we used it because of this but it needs treatment. right now I'm using a tub mat.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, Judy, and Stephie--

This morning I did both low impact hiit workouts (50:08).

Once again, freezing wind chill today. It's supposed to warm up by Thursday, but then it's rain, not exactly what we need with all the snow melt.

Deb, that's great that the NG are helping you with your diet. I only have problems sleeping if I eat a big dinner very late.

Valerie, that sounds dangerous. DH always complains that we didn't get a powerful enough fan, but to me it sounds like a cyclone when I'm doing stir-fries and Max hides from the noise. I guess our fan is about 10 years old. Maybe we should look for a replacement.

Lori, that's wonderful that you have so much old footage that is still in good shape. I think my FIL has a lot of old 8mm stuff, but I don't know if he has any plans for conversion.

Hi to Judy, Josie, and Stephie!

Good evening ladies!

Yesterday I felt like running on the TM. It has been AGES since I used it. I alternated tabatas and weight work. Did one full tabata (4 minutes) then got off and did upper body for 4 minutes then back to TM then lower body. Had my headphones on and listened to some fun upbeat music. I really enjoyed it. So now with all this video editing I have been doing thinking about going on Youtube for some some TM tabatas and using sections of cathe weights and then putting my own custom workout together. Will be kind of fun to see what I can come up with!

Valerie...wow that are some steep copays! Had no idea medicare was so expensive. Funny about your guest bathroom. You always do great with those cycle workouts. I find spinning to be so hard and when the dvd is over I am so thankful to be done.

Lynda...got so busy yesterday I never went on line to look at the website! I hear it can get costly to convert the reel tapes. I have a machine that converts super 8mm (little cassettes) to dvd which is what I used for all my sons taping we did from our camcorder before they all went digital. Made sense to buy it rather than spend all the money to convert. Once I get on DVD then I use sofware to convert to digital then the fun begins!

Deb...we have a company that regularly cleans our hood vents. Huge fire hazzard if they are not kept up! Lol! I am now picturing your doggies balancing! Very cute visual.

Judy...Would never think to use a balance board for your type of injury but it does make sense. How long do you use it for...couple minutes on, couple minutes off?

Hi to Josie and Steph!

At PT they have me using it one leg at a time, and doing 10 reps of 20 seconds. That's pretty easy so I think at home I will try doing it for longer periods. It also came with a sheet of different exercises to do with it, variations on crunches and pushups and standing on it with both feet and balancing that way.

we did a mt bike as planned, about 90 minutes. we rode up with 2 even shorter breaks than last time. it is nice to see how aerobic capacity progresses. I can ride much further uphill without stopping than in January. regular spinning is helping me too. Lori, I couldn't do them comfortably at first, but with the shoulder issue plus my previous foot issue, it seemed like I'd better get used to another way to stay fit. I find it easier to keep my heart rate consistently up in the right zone spinning compared to other approaches.

there are a dozen insurance different options. I was surprised this is as expensive for PT but ... it is what it is. I have it for this year. the options are confusing and it's not possible to know what you WILL need in the next year before you sign up for something. I wanted a program where all the doctors I use accept this insurance ....so that was the most important factor.

I am trying to picture a pair of terriers on a balance beam and it's a hilarious picture!

we read reviews of the shower floor before we bought it. it's Kohler, and the only one that fit our shower. Still, I don't know why it's made with no texture on the surface. maybe so everyone can pick their own "fix"? no way would I use it as is. I'm using a tub mat until we get a clear spray that is should make it more textured.

the hood... my old one was deteriorating with the dial not controlling the speed of the fan anymore. it was like a hurricane! I'd turn it down, it would go back up, I'd turn it down, and on and on. Lori, I understand now why restaurants would need regular maintainence of their exhaust systems!.

also did PT late this afternoon.

Good morning,

Very late class last night and I didn't sleep very well last night, got up later than usual. I am pretty tired, but hope I get a "push" later to get a workout in.

Judy, that film of your DH being brought home from the hospital is a treasure! Did your DH get them on DVD?

Valerie, you are not alone with not understanding the Medicare system! Everyone has to have some type of supplemental plan, straight Medicare alone does not cover all that is needed. $55 a month sounds cheap...my brother and SIL are paying $100 I think, but I am not sure what carrier they use for the supplemental stuff...I plan on sitting down with them soon to find out. I can't imagine why they would not have some sort of slip resistant surface in the new shower! That is a law suit waiting to happen. Most companies are always looking at stuff like that.

Lynda, maybe your DH should get the 8mm films from his Dad now, and get them converted. It makes a nice gift too. We didn't own a movie camera, so no films for me to convert. :(

Lori, wow, you are really the Tech Queen here!

Judy, those exercises sound great for the core as well!

Hi to Josie, and Stephie,

Taking Keegan to be groomed this morning, then back here for more stuff around here.

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did an indoor ride, very easy. Today is PT. I just got the KCM ab dvd so I might try that today too.

Deb-yes, DH took all the reels to a local company that transfers 8 mm and super 8 film to digital files. There were so many that we had to buy a 2 terabyte external drive to put the files on. Once DH had the files he was able to edit them. We uploaded them to our dropbox account and then sent the links to family members. The amazing thing is that DH had never seen the film of him being brought home. It was so emotional for both of us once we realized what we were watching. FIL made all of these videos then just kind of put them away and forgot about them. Thank God that DH had the forethought to bring all the films home with him a few years ago. He had planned to do the conversion on his own a little at a time, but once FIL's health started to deteriorate we didn't have time to even think about doing that. At one time, SIL wanted to mail them all to Costco as they offer that service through mailorder, but DH wouldn't allow it. He didn't want the films to get lost or damaged.

Lori-you are the Tech Queen! DH thought about doing the transfers himself but it seemed like such a daunting task. It's awesome that you are doing them yourself! It was costly to do it the way we did, around $600 just for the transfer and we also had to buy the hard drive for the files. It took over a month to get everything done.

Valerie-Great mountain bike ride! I can't wait to get outside. Looks like it will be another week or 2 before we have decent weather. It feels like winter started all over again here :(

Hi to Lynda, Josie & Stephie!

Judy

Thought we'd be gone this morning on another mt bike but looks like maybe later. still raining this morning so not worth a long drive somewhere. we can still go if it clears off a bit. "not raining" will do but rules out some of the muddier routes. even showers are ok for mt biking but this is RAIN.
Judy have you seen pics of the gigantic-tire snow and beach sand bikes? next time we get to a beach we may rent one to see if they work OK. we tried out our mt bikes on firm beach sand..... trust me, they don't work. we saw pics of people riding the Oregon coast on giant tire bikes ... on the firm sand just above the waterline. I know people ride them on snow at xc ski resorts but the snow here was so pathetic this year we didn't go. not something I'd buy but might be fun to rent.

Had a work out at PT yesterday. one of the male therapists did deep tissue massage on my shoulder. he's a lot stronger than the women who've been doing it. I swear he had his fingers all the way down to the rotator cuff itself. kind of achy last night but feels OK this morning. I did 10 reach-tap pushups on a bench, easier than on the floor... along with my other exercises.

Lori you amaze me with your technical skills and willingness to try. I feel like a digital idiot sometimes. I always will pick the wrong option. always. we don't have any family movies which relieves me of that responsibility.

Deb, I think each state or regional area has a different set up of plans available. I'm thinking the company we used was Vibrance. it was all over the phone but they did a lot of the leg work, checking which plan covers the doctors I use. not many but not every office accepts every insurance plan. at the time DH was still on private insurance. he then went to cobra and now is on a different private plan but he won't be medicare for 5 years yet. he's 7 yrs younger than I am. so my $55 is for an individual plan. you need to reassess each year. supposedly in late summer they send out info on plans for the coming year but we did not get anything last year so automatically were enrolled in my current plan.

I keep thinking about the shower pan, wondering about liability issues. maybe if they add a non slip coating and someone falls anyway, they are liable, but if they leave the slipping hazard obvious, they are not? who knows??? it is a Kohler pan, so not obscure brand.

My exhaust fan was closer to 25 yrs. I cleaned all the accessible surfaces often. new one has a 2 speed fan and lights. way fewer nooks and crannies and one filter. Broan. mostly you buy what fits in the space.

Hi Ladies,

I did not workout during the weekend. We went to MIL service on Saturday and we were emotionally and physically exhausted. The service was very nice and we brought a big box of photos that MIL had. We have been going through them and its been a nice experience. Found a lot of pictures of my DH when he was a kid :)

Welcome Stephi!

I will check back later.

Josie
