NancyAZ: My Valor BD3 Squat Rack arrived!

Aquajock

Cathlete
Just wanted to do a shout-out to thank you again; I ordered the thing thru Overstock after you informed us of the better price, and it arrived Thursday. DH and I just finished putting it together - well, DH put it together and I "supervised". I will be inaugurating it tomorrow.

Thanks so much again for scoping it out. I still plan on getting the Pull-Up Tower from Cathe when it's available so I'm not really interested in using my current new acquisition for bench presses, but I'm psyched!

You rawk -

You're Welcome!

<grin> I'm so glad! I'm jealous, though, I was supposed to get mine yesterday, too, but bad weather in Phoenix (100 mph winds) kept mine marooned just two hours away . Now with the weekend and holiday I won't get them until Tuesday. No big deal in the longrun. Were they complicated to put together? Please let us know what you think of them after tomorrow.

Hi, Nancy! DH did the bulk of the brain work in terms of sifting through the instructions and figuring out what to do. He said that at first he thought it would take him hours, but actually with my help it only took about 45 minutes. The thing comes in pieces and there is a cardboard template with all the screws and screw turners and other little gizmos you will need. You might need to have an extra set of pliers handy.

It very, very much helps to have two people working on it, because you have to turn screws on one side of the H-shaped base and hold the opposing side of the same screw steady on the other side. Let's just say DH was the brains of the outfit and I was the grunt labor.

Hope you get it soon! And thanks again -

I didn't realize there would be so much assembly involved. That's fine, but good to know ahead of time. Thanks for the tips.

Nancy:

don't sweat it. My husband got mine put together in less than 20 mins! He was so excited by the arrival of the package, he opened it and had all the pieces laid out on the floor before I got home! Then he put it together so quickly. I could tell he was bored with his real work --he works from home as an IT specialist-- because he was so motivated to do this for me, he really wanted to do anything except trudge back upstairs to work! This is the way I get menial tasks done around the house: mention them to him during his "god I'm so bored with work" moments when he's off wandering around the house or browsing the fridge! Works a charm.....

The squat rack is very sturdy and I shall be christening it soonish....just waiting for the OK from my knee..

Enjoy your new toy when it arrives,

Clare

Hey Clare,

Do you think that you could send your DH out my way to help put my new squat racks together, too? ;)

It's not that hard, really. I did it myself. (The hard part is figuring out the instructions, which are just a diagram. My first try, I did have something in the wrong place on the vertical stands, but I figured it out immediately.)

Hey A-Jock~

Thanks for posting about the assembly. Mine are supposed to arrive on Wednesday. Have you had a chance to use them yet? I was questioning whether they would work for bench presses while using the club step with 4 risers per side. The description indicated height sizes from 36" -56" but at 36", I would still have to reach high to grab the bar while laying on the step. I was hoping these would work for both squats and bench presses so that I wouldn't need the pull up tower too (especially since I already have a pull up bar).

Have you been catching the news today showing all the demonstration and chaos in St Paul? I'm glad I don't have to be in downtown anytime next week. It is going to be a mess!

Hi, Ninja Mom! I used my new BFF yesterday, for a simple squat and lunge set, albeit with a barbell 2.5-lb heavier than my heaviest hike-over-the-shoulders bar. It was SAH-WEET! I loaded the bar with the preferred weightload after hiking it more lightly loaded onto its little hooks, did my cardio, then stood facing away from the rack to put it on my shoulders. I had to dip a little bit to do this. I reloaded the barbell back on the rack facing towards it. Seemed to work very well. I wanted to practice a bit before I bring barbell leg-cardio-circuit work back into the mix.

Have I bored you enough with the Book Of Me yet?

Re bench presses - from my look at it, with the rack at the lowest setting, unless you have a very high bench or a step bench with at least five-six risers per side, I can't see that it would work. Too high up the rack. I could be wrong on that; hopefully other Valorettes will chime in again on this or another thread with their take.

Re the fun-n-games in St. Paul: this wasn't much less than what we'd expected. The law enforcement authorities on both sides of the river have been uber-ramping up their forces, and the courts for Ramsey and Hennepin Counties were also prepared.

IMHO, the protesters are REALLY pissed about St. Paul continually being mistaken for Minneapolis in Big Box Media, not mickey-mouse domestic or foreign policy issues!

Thanks for the report!

The law enforcement authorities on both sides of the river have been uber-ramping up their forces,

Our department was tapped for 26 officers for interior security. I thought that was pretty interesting. It was on a first-come/first-served volunteer basis and we had more than enough people who wanted to go.

And since I can't send this without any characters (or even less than 10) I'm typing this silly message.

Darn it! I was worried that the lowest level on the stands might still be too high for bench press:( I'll ty it out later this week and see if I can come up with a solution. Maybe I'll have to order a few more risers or pick up a cheap bench.

I remember when Katie Couric was talking about the RNC on the news and said it was in Mpls. Oops! She had to retract and apologize for her error:rolleyes:

Being on the St Paul side of the Twins, I really couldn't care less. I have more important things to think about;)

Hi A-Jock!

Now that you have had this for a while - do you still like it? I am in the market. Please let me know if you would recommend it. Thanks!

Comments from anyone else are welcome too. Looking for a rack for bench presses and squats - do not need the bench part - just the rack. Any recommendations are welcome.

Thanks!

Nancy
