Jogglers May 2012

Hi...I don't have much time today as I am skipping my lunch break because I'm taking mom to her nutritionist appointment this afternoon.

I did not go for a run yesterday. It was raining and our friend who runs with us didn't want to go because of the rain so we are going today. When I got home it was mostly over so I did this workout:

2 Rounds
200m run
40 ball slams
40 sit ups
40 Push Presses
40 Swings
200m run
40 squats
40 push ups
40 walking lunges

Tricia ~ I hope Peanut is ok.

Alisha ~ I hope your dentist appointment goes well.

See you guys tomorrow.

Hi ladies!

Alisha - I can't believe after all that you have to go back to the dentist again for something else! :( Ugh!

I did not get a workout in tonight. Golf was a bust because although it stopped raining, it didn't really clear enough for the grass to dry out after 3 days of good rain. Oh, well, we're going next week rain or shine! If it rains, we'll drink and talk about golf!

Jane - Hope your mom's appointment with the nutritionist goes well! Can't wait to hear any new info you learn!

Well, after the vet visit it looks like Peanut has a herniated disc. :(:(

I have 3 new meds for her and she can't jump or climb at all. We have to pick her up and carry her everywhere making sure to keep her spine straight as possible. This is going to be nearly impossible to do 100% of the time. It will take 10-14 days for her to get better and if we notice any worsening symptoms like dragging her legs or forgetting how to walk, we have to take her in right away for x-rays. I hope she just gets better! My poor baby! I'm just beside myself with all these things happening to her!

Stephen went to a museum and the aquarium today in Chicago. He's supposed to be meeting up with one of his aunts this evening. His grandmother didn't even want to see him. He says it's because of her blindness and she's so old now, but it's been ages since he's seen her. I can't believe she wouldn't want to see her grandson at least once more. Go figure. He has a really weird family! Even he admits that!

Well, that's it for me.

Have a great night!

TGIF!!

Tonight I am doing a leg workout. It will be 10 reps of 10 back squats, 10 zercher squats, 10 thrusters and 10 sumo squat. We will do anywhere from 5 to 10 rounds of this workout.

Alisha ~ I hope you dentist appointment goes well.

Tricia ~ Poor peanut. I hope she gets better soon! Poor baby! I'm sorry about the golf. It sounds like you have a great plan for next week. Chicago is a great city with lots of stuff to do. I'm sorry to hear about his grandma not wanting to see him, but some older people are like that. I think every family has some-weird in them. :p

We were at the nutritionist's office for 2 HOURS!! That lady likes to talk and my mom likes to talk so...it was a talk fest. I'm not sure I learned a whole lot but mainly mom is in a preventive state. Not a diabetic yet so she is working on not getting there. I guess this is an issue with everyone as we age. She talked about how sugar is processed in the body but don't ask me to recite it.

Her big thing was to watch her carbs so of course no white sugar or white products at all and she has to stay at 45 grams or less per meal for carbs. I can't remember what the intake is for snacks. She was realistic in terms of her approach. So that was it really. Mom has to monitor her glucose for the next month and we go back on June 18th or 19th. She and mom really hit it off and she mentioned that she wanted to get together with mom outside of the office (I'm thinking as friends). She is in her mid 60's, I'm guessing because she mentioned going to the social security office. She also mentioned exercise so I'm hoping mom get out and move more.

She did mentioned that when you look at food labels, you can subtract the amount of fiber from the total carb count. So if you are eating a piece of bread and it has 20 grams of total carbs per slice and it has 3 grams of fiber, you can substract the 3 grams of fiber from the total carb count. That I did not know.

Anyway hope everyone has a great day!

My plan is to do Leslie Sansone's 5 mile dvd and an advanced Taebo workout. Its a sweat fest! My jaw is still a bit sore but I'm not as numb as last night. I just had a filling done on the other side. It was ok, no worries.

Tomorrow will be Buns of Steel 6 (30 min.) + the original Step Reebok with Gin Miller (35 min.) and Fat Burning Pilattes with Kathy Smith.

Jane- That looks like a great workout!

Tell your mom that the most instrumental thing to fixing my blood sugar was cardio. The reason is that it roughs up the insulin receptors and one of the major problems that type 2 diabetics have is insulin resistance. Once the cels are receptive again, your pancreas doesn't have to make so much insulin, and well, the pressure is off.

I had been prediabetic and I cured myself (well, ok, manage myself.) with exercise, plenty of healthy fats in my diet (coconut oil is the best, fish if she can have it.) and lots of vegetables. I also take gymenma sylvestre if I have eaten something that was too high in sugar, it binds with the sugars in the gut and reduces the absorption.

If I didn't watch my carbs and exercise I would be 600 pounds. We have that in the family, I had been on my way to that in my 20s and I just had enough. The pain from being heavy was just too much. Ouchie, my poor little feet! I have lost over 60 pounds and have some more to go. But, man, the difference in how I feel is really worth the effort.

Btw, my body does better with quinoa or legumes over grains for my starchy carbs. Lentils are my favorite and just don't mess with my blood sugar at all.

I'm sorry, thats a bit of a novel:eek:

Tricia- I am so sorry about Peanut's back. Poor baby!!! That is weird that his Grandmother wouldn't want to see him. Maybe she is embarrassed about the way she looks.

Alisha

Jane - Wow! Glad your mom connected with her nutritionist! There's nothing worse than not being on the same page with someone who is supposed to help you. I didn't know that about deducting fiber from the carb total, but it does make sense. Sounds like this woman could be a very good influence on your mom, especially if they start getting together socially and being active.

Great workout you have scheduled too!

Alisha - You are pulling out the oldies! Enjoy! I wish I had kept all mine, but they were all VHS and I wouldn't have a way to use them.

Peanut is much better today. More spunky and herself. I think it's the pain med, but I'm hoping whatever happened was really minor!

Okay, so I was on the phone with Stephen last night up in bed and I have my glasses off because I was going to sleep after and I'm staring up at the ceiling. The ceiling angles down on both ends of the room low enough you have to duck if you're right up against the wall. Anyway, I'm looking as we're talking and I see something crawling along the ceiling. Guess what it was? My nemesis, my phobia! My worst nightmare! Luckily it was only about the size of a nickel (still too big by my book, but at least manageable - sort of). I told Stephen this was what I had always feared about him being away - not that he could crash in a plane or anything, but I'd be alone with an arachnid. *shiver*

I watched it crawl to behind his side of the headboard and stop. It was just where I couldn't get to it and I didn't know what to do. After staring a long time and talking to Stephen for about 10 minutes of what to do - sleep downstairs or stay up all night staring at it. I was afraid to lose sight of it even though they terrify me so much! After a while, it moved to outside from behind the headboard on his side of the bed and I grabbed my slipper. I went over and got up the nerve (about another 5 minutes) and smashed at it. It fell off. Don't know if I killed it or not, but at least it wasn't where it could crawl on the ceiling above my head at night and dangle over my face or land on me or something! What a night! Peanut got up 3 times too. It's the steroids she's on. Anyway, I did not have nightmares, thank goodness!

Can't wait for him to get home and take care of these things for me! Sheesh! Why is there no scared face in the smilies? There should be!

Anyway, it's going to be a quiet night of lounging with the puppies with a bottle of wine and television or movies. Tomorrow I shop for Phase 1 and 2 of my raw fat blast program. That wil get me through to next weekend when I can shop again.

Have a great Friday night!

Jane - Good luck in your 5k race tomorrow!

Tricia- Yeah, I tend to smash spiders too. Although, I tend to escort pretty beatles out in a jar. I'm glad Peanut is feeling a bit better. Be sure to get her plenty of audio books to listen to now that her eye sight isn't what it used to be.

Jane-I didn't mean to come across as a know-it-all in my last post:eek: So, did you get a good workout in?

Yesterday I did 5 miles and some pilattes. I skipped the Taebo, I had burned plenty of calories. I will do my step mish mosh this morning. I really want to do my belly dance tape intsead of pilattes. I figure that will be this evening. I don't really get sweaty during that one, its really just toning. Tomorrow will be a joggle plus Shiva Rae Yoga for beginners.

It looks like my Dad and I will be going for a trip next week on Thursday. We will be driving down to LA/Long Beach for a work thingy. I will be packing a lunch/snacks for the drive down and then I will find a grocery store to keep myself covered. I am hoping that the hotel will have a pool and a gym. I will have to go buy myself a swim suit (gAHHHH). I will bring travel fit with me.

Alisha

Alisha - I hate those things! It took all my courage to do it! Stephen is my smasher usually. Sounds like you've got a good plan for the weekend. I have to go grocery shopping and I'm dreading it! I hate grocery shopping and I fear the cost this week due to all the recipes in my fat blast plan. There are a few extra items I want to try and get if they're not crazy expensive like spirulina and wheatgrass powder. I also need more nuts and seeds which are always pricey! I hope Stephen will eat some of this so I don't have to shop separately for him.

Hope your trip to LA goes well!

Have a good day. I'm just going to go geta shower and it's already about noon! lol

Happy Monday!

Another weekend has come and gone! :(

I did the following workout on Saturday. Sunday was a rest day.

4 Rounds
12 Swings
12 Sumo Deadlift HP
12 Push Presses
12 Push ups
12 Bicep Curl to Press
12 Squat Thrusts
12 Ball Slams
I tried to use the heaviest weights

This is Monday's workout:

4 Rounds
400m Run
40 Swings
40 Weighted Step Ups
40 Sit ups

Alisha ~ You didn't come across as a know-it-all. I appreciate your comments and your experience. I also feel the "key" is for mom to get moving and I think something positive is coming from this experience. She walked with me onto her road on Saturday and Sunday and walked a little farther on Sunday. She wants my sister and I to clear a path around her backyard (her yard is big) so she can walk there plus up and down the driveway and up and down her front and deck stairs. The road she lives on can be busy and I worry that she couldn't react in time if a car was going too fast. She is very motivated with her eating. Her blood glucose readings were great on Friday and Saturday but slightly elevated on Sunday but she had 2 cake pops so that was probably the culprit. My only issue with this is that she will take the numbers so seriously that it will be detrimental to her mental health. I need to ask the nutritionist lady about this at her next appt.

Good job with your workouts and have a nice trip later this week. It's always great to pack snacks ahead of time.

Tricia ~ I don't mind spiders but I hate roaches. I had one in my closet last week and I'm not sure what happened to it. I did spray down my closet and bathroom and I'm hoping that it's dead somewhere. I don't see too many but I hate when they are in my bedroom. Once I had one crawl on me in bed. I knocked it out of the way and I knocked it so hard it hit the wall and died. At least it didn't suffer. Then I had to get up (it was 5am) and take all the sheets off my bed and wash them and then take a shower. Yuk!!

Hope everyone has a great day!

The hotel does not have a pool. So, I'm off the hook.

I have completely changed my rotation. I took yesterday as a rest day. Today I'm doing Jillian's Shred it With Weights (kettlebells) and Kathy Smith's Fat Burning Workout. I will probably do road work tomorrow.

Jane- Great workout!!! I'm glad to hear that she is taking it seriously. Sometimes the approach must be serious. I hate roaches!

Tricia-Nuts are always pricey. People often think of meat as expensive but I can usually get organic chicken for 4$/lb but forget about getting nuts at that price.

Alisha

I just can't seem to stick to a rotation anymore. I'm just a bit bored. So, I'm not going for a joggle. I'm going to do LIC (the new one.) and then 20 min. of Hi/Lo with Kathy Smith.

My half sister is going in for her double masectomy today. Wish her luck. My Dad is going down to the hospital to be there. She is a lot older than I am and we don't really know each other so I'm not going because often when going in for surgery, people just want the people they know. I didn't want to stress her out.

I plan to do my workout then go out to do some shopping. My Dad and I have to drive to Norwalk (close to Anaheim/Disney Land.) on Thursday. I think I mentioned this already. We did get a hotel with a kitchenette but there is no pool or workout room :( Oh well. I will take a couple of no- space dvds and my yoga matt. I will be super good about my eats on the road.

Alisha

I am taking a rest day today.

Alisha ~ I am praying for your half sister that all goes well today.

They are plenty of workouts you can do without the pool or the gym. Is the hotel a multi-level hotel? If so, you can walk the stairs. You can also do squats, lunges, sit ups, and push ups in your room as well. You are creative, you'll think of something.

If you are bored with your routine, why not just do what you feel like doing instead of trying to stick to something.

Hi Tricia!

Jane- Thanks for the suggestions:) Enjoy your rest.:)

I think I will go for a hike in about an hour. My pants are in the dryer and its still a little dark out there. I will probably do some yoga after to cool down. Tomorrow will be Low Max. I figure that it makes sense to burn my buns before I hit the road and have to take a workout break for at least a day. :D Thats the perfect time to earn some doms.:p

Catch ya later,

Alisha

Out of the office

I may not have internet access for the next week or so. I'm not taking my lap top with me to Norwalk (about 7 miles west of Anaheim, close to Disneyland.)

So,

Jane- Way to go on those workouts. I hope your Mom is well.

Tricia- I hope that you do your workouts. Hug Stephen and Peanut. Way to go with the raw smoothies!!!

Alisha

Yesterday was a 4 mile run.

Here is my workout for today:

3 Rounds
10 Push Press
10 Front Raises
10 Side Lateral Raises
10 Bicep Curls
10 Floor Presses
Then
3 Rounds
15 Pull ups
15 Push ups
Then
1 Round
4x 30/15 Halos
4x 30/15 H2H Swings

Alisha ~ Have a great time on your trip.

Hi Tricia!

Hi girls! I'm here! I've been meaning to get on my laptop so I can see all the posts at once and properly reply, but haven't gotten to it! All is well and I'll catch up and fill you in this weekend!

Morning ladies! Ugh. Just didn't get to my laptop this weekend. Hope you two had a great weekend! I did Circuit Blast on Saturday morning (that didn't go well) and then played 18 holes of golf. Thought it was only going to. Be 9. Ended up having to eat a grilled chicken sandwich when we stopped halfway through and I got really sunburned. Forgot my sunscreen. The weird thing is that it didn't get painful or hot like I usually do when I burn and am recovering very quickly. I can only think it's the raw diet I'm on. I'll take it! Took yesterday as a rest day. Back to it today with. A C25K run after work, rain or shine!

Have a terrific Monday!

Happy Monday!

Another weekend is over but I only have 2 days this week and then I am off until May 31. YIPPEE!!

Friday I did a leg workout - 6 Rounds of 10 reps with a 45# barbell of: back squats, zercher squats, thrusters and sumo squats. Then 3 rounds of 20 of calf raises.

Saturday I did the following:
100 Swings
10, 8, 6, 4, 2 reps of Mr. Spectacular
50 Rope slams
25, 20, 15, 10, 5 reps of Jump Squats
50 Rope Slams
100 Swings
Then my sister and I took turns doing farmers walk with 2-18# kettlebell around the block. My arms were shaking after that.

Sunday was a 8 mile run.

Saturday I also worked in the yard for 2 hours pulling roots and weeds out of the front bed in which I will put in some new plants. I had the holly bushes taken out last May but haven't had time to replant anything.

Sunday I went to mom's house and made a birthday cake for my sister. We had The Cake Boss's buttercream frosting and it is divine!!! Can wait to taste it on the cake tonight. Then we spent an hour clearing a path in her backyard. We have a long way to go but we are going to make a path all the way around her yard (she has a big yard) so she can walk around back there.

Hi Alisha - hope you are having fun.

Tricia ~ I'm glad you had a good time golfing. Enjoy your run tonight.

You stay so active and busy! I'm a total couch potato compared to you! Great workouts this weekend! I did get my run in. Can't wait to get further into my C25K plan so I'll burn more calories! I'm hardly hitting 200 cals for 30 minutes! Stayed 100% raw today, but had a cheat by making strawberries with cream and fudge sauce foe dessert! It was delicious! Not much of a cheat really since it's raw and made with all healthy ingredients. I love raw eating!

Hi Alisha!

Here is tonight's workout:

100 Jump rope
10 push press
20 Ball Slams
30 Sit ups
150 Jump Rope
20 push press
40 ball slams
60 Sit ups
200 Jump Rope

I'm glad you are loving the raw lifestyle. That is fantastic! One of these days I will get there.

I used to be a couch potato and believe me, I miss the couch but my weekends are busy because I am usually over at mom's at least one day out of the 2 and then I have to take care of my place too. My sisters all help but we are all busy so we do what we have to do.

I'm on vacation starting in less than 1 hour!! Yay! I'm doing stuff around the house but will also take time to rest, relax and be lazy.

I can understand that, but can't relate. I have never lived that close to family.

Great workout! Lucky you on vacation! Enjoy! Are you going anywhere?

I did Athletic Step tonight and am going to have some whole wheat pasta for dinner I think. I'm hungry and tired. Almost didn't work out, but knew I needed to.

Hi Alisha! Hope all is well where you are today!
