Cathe - your S&H tapes

This is my first time using your tapes. I did the bicep/tricep/abs segment. I started with 2.5LBS but found them too light, then moved to 5 LBS. (7.5 LBS each side during barbell routine).

I was able to finish everything with the 5 LBS weight. I did have a lot of trouble with the tricep dips and could not complete that exercise.

All the time, I was really excited cause I could feel my arms doing the work. I even started to 'heat' up and was screaming (aaah!) by the time 'we' reached the 3rd set of each exercise.

But now, 15 minutes later, I feel light - as if I didn't workout at all. Is this normal, or do I need to increase the weights? Maybe I did something wrong?

It was quite an effort to finish the third set. I kept calling you killer catheeeee because I was burning like hell. But I don't feel pumped at all now.

Maybe this is how it's supposed to be?

I, too, am not feeling nearly as much pain the day after (or the day after that, which is usually even worse) using the S&H series. When I use the PS or MIS, I definitely feel it the next day. I prefer the S&H idea because I like to take time to get my form right and concentrate on the moves. I'm curious about this too. Are we doing something wrong? My muscles feel a little shaky for a few hours afterward, but no sore reminders that I had worked out.

I'm not Cathe but personal trainer. Studies have shown that you get much more sore from excentric work rather than concentric work.
I think that since the six counts are on the concentric and 2 counts on excentric you don't get as sore.
This does not mean that you don't get a great and building workout. Absolutely not.
But I'm sure that if you tried the reverse, slow on excentric and fast on concentric you would be much more sore.
I think it's very important to feel it during the workout, and if you go for that your last reps in each set are very hard, you are getting the work in there to create results.

Wait and see how you feel tomorrow. DOMS or Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness can be unexpected and almost debilitating! I felt my triceps the day after and how! You felt your muscles beining worked. Mark my words, they were! Trust your body. You are doing great things for yourselves!

Didn't Cathe address this issue in previous posts? It's been awhile, but I remember her saying, at least twice, that due to the long rests and the stretching between sets, less soreness was to be expected. Does anyone else remember this? I had noticed the lack of soreness too, but after she said this, I quit worrying about it.

Yes! I totally remember this. She said lack of soreness doesn't necessarily mean you didn't work hard. The longer rest periods and stretching usually account for not being sore. Personally, I feel sore from the upper-body work in S/H and many times it's a day or two later (like Bobbi mentioned)! Chest, tri's and bi's especially. The day afer I do legs/shoulders, I go for a run which I think works out the soreness I would have felt in my legs. Perhaps if anyone is doing cardio after doing S/H legs, they are working out the soreness too. Regardless, I remember cathe addressing this and I too stopped worrying about it!
