Pulses after a set.

Hi Cathe and all you Cathe fans out there. I've seen this in the gym and on some exercise videos so I wanted to know if there is any benefit to doing pulses at the end of a set of an exercise. For example, after doing a set of squats, do one more squat but only go half way up (thus, a pulse) and repeat a few more times. When I've done it I've always felt the burn and it feels like I'm really working the muscle, but is there actually a benefit to doing this? Thanks. :)
