frequency of ab training?

Cathe,
I would like your take on how frequently you can or should work your abs and core region. I have seen and read differing opinions in books, magazines, and other message boards--

1) you should not work the abs daily in order to avoid overtraining the muscles, (similar thinking used for other muscle groups)

or

2) the ab muscles are different than other muscle groups and you can and should work them daily.

What is your advice?

I'm obviously not Cathe, but I "try" to work my abs about 4-5 times a week, although I try to never do the same workout on consecutive days. I mix them up with routines from Cathe's Ab Hits, Pilates, and oblique exercises. Focusing on different muscles in the midsection on different days can keep you from over-working/fatiguing certain muscles--but you're still giving that whole area a good workout!
