Form for dips?

Traildoggie

Cathlete
When I do dips I put my hand in a fist position, knuckles on the surface, and wrist straight. I've done them this way for a long time and never thought twice about it because when I first started my wrists got sore from the traditional position. I started doing pushups similarly way using a dumbbell. my husband noticed me doing them and asked if it was an acceptable position. I don't think they're any easier but feel my wrists are protected better. Cathe (or anyone else) any thoughts?

Does this bother your knuckles? Just curious... I have never done dips that way. On occassion, I'll use dumbbells when doing push ups (it actually allows me to go deeper). Have you thought about strengthening your forearms to alleviate the pain you feel in your wrists? This helped me tremendously, but if you have prior wrist injuries you may want to check with your doc. I would think to do what feels most comfortable for your body, but I am not a professional. Hope you find the answers your looking for:)
