Default Equipment priorities

After thinking about it for at least a year, the 30% off sale was enough to finally make me buy STS. The main thing that had deterred me was the amount of equipment needed. Since really looking properly at it I seem to need even more new gear than I realised. Between STS and some non-fitness purchases my spending limit is maxed out for now so I plan to start STS anyway next week doing the best I can then add new equipment in gradually.

I currently have:
Dumbbells 2kg, 4.5kg and a 20kg variable set (the cheap ones with spin locks that take ages to change plates)
Tension bands
Fitball, mat, aerobic step with 8 risers plus slanted risers

So on the wishlist:
?more dumbbells (have just started doing 1rm tests so I think I need to wait and see what sort of weights I need and how much the variable ones slow me down)
Barbell (it sounds like it's worth saving for a good quality one with quick release collars)
Pull up tower or bar (currently planning to improvise with tension bands)
Weighted vest

I would appreciate any advice about how to prioritize new purchases.
Do most people using STS have large dumbbell sets or do you only find you need a few key weights?
Would anyone do things differently and delay starting STS until I have more equipment?

Looking forward to your advice.

I'd go ahead and do STS; the exercises are very adaptable around the equipment you have.

Definitely get those spring locks for the dumbells, or something else that's quicker-I have those too and they really get irritating.

I'd recommend a barbell, but most or all of the exercises can be done with dumbells.

So happy to hear you purchased STS! That is an amazing deal. I think you'll be fine starting out with the equipment you have. Keep an eye on Craigslist, thrift shops and garage sales for good deals on dumbbells to add to your collection. I also think a barbell would be a great addition as you hit your muscles differently compared to dumbbells. You'll be glad you bought the series even with the equipment you have.
