What I love about cardio

Last night my DH and I were on the east side of Manhattan, when I looked at my watch and realized that our 8:00 show, which was on the far west side, was going to start in 20 minutes. I looked at DH and said "we're going to have to move fast."

As a 50-yr. old who smoked for half her life, I have never been able to run, so I figured I would do a run-walk interval thing across town. I started to run the very long blocks from Avenue to Avenue, but I didn't feel the need to slow down and walk, so I kept running! We arrived at the theatre with more than 10 minutes to spare, my DH trailing behind me huffing and puffing and I suddenly noticed something: not only wasn't I huffing and puffing, but I was breathing normally!!!

Now, I don't do much cardio. I try to do about 40-45 minutes on Saturday, and maybe another 40-45 on Sunday, if possible. Apparently, that's all it takes! My lung capacity is better than it's ever been in my life, and my resting heart rate is nice and low.

Gotta love that cardio! :D

Now THAT is what I call a reason to exercise!!! :7

Congrats to you and your physique, Nance!!!

Thanks Ame! I imagine it doesn't sound like much to you athletes, but I was pretty darn impressed with myself. :+

Way to go Nancy! As you were a former smoker, I bet this made you feel great! Congrats on your healthy choice...I am very impressed...:+ :D

Thanks Carole, Robin and Karin!

Karin, it was an off-broadway show called "25 Questions For A Jewish Mother". It was hilariously funny, and yet sad and deeply moving all at the same time. We loved it.

Yaaay Nancy!!! I think it's awesome that you embraced the challenge and exceeded your own expectations! I do love what fitness does for my body and appearance but I get the biggest kicks and rushes out of how fitness translates into my day to day life and an example like you just shared would make me feel fabulous!! YOU ROCK A LOT!!!

Take Care
Laurie:)

I was kinda wondering the same thing. What about the shoes? We might even be more impressed if you were wearing stilettos! Good job, Nancy!

Thanks so much for posting, ladies. Laurie, red is your color! Gorgeous pic.

No, I wasn't wearing any of my many pairs of stilettos that night :p :+. Just a pair of work flats. However, I did have a full dinner in me, including dessert and two glasses of wine! Maybe that's why I didn't notice my feet hurting. :+ :+
