what does water do for physical appearance?

Seeing a lot of talk about water on this forum lately, and have heard that its important to weight loss and the appearance of the body. My question is, why and how? How does your body look different? I know you may feel more full and eat less, and that it improves the appearance of your skin. Surely there is more to it than that?

Hm, I am not sure, but I do know that dehydration can cause fatigue. I make sure to drink enough water so I don't feel that fatigue set in. :)

Stating the facts of water

The human body is 75% water
Water helps to transport nutrients around the body
Water carries waste out of the body
Water helps break down foods
Water keeps the body temperature balanced
Water keeps the skin elastic, the hair shiney and healthy, the eyes clear, the face pores closed and the ear and nose mucus pliable for easy removal (hmmmmm, nice to know that one over breakfast isnt it?)

So apart from the ovious of keeping us full if we are watching our weight, or drinking it because we are merely thirsty,

the way I see it, is if I didnt have my recommended 6-8 classes a day

I would eventually end up a dry, shrivelled, bloated, greasy haired, pimpled face person, with a dirty nose and waxy ears

:-(

Known fact: We can live for weeks without food but only a few days without water.

remember about a year ago when there was the big report that told you to drink 8 glasses of water a day was never necessary? Some diet doctor made it up. It was never researched. Some health experts say that much water isn't necessary. I still think it is good for you to have 8 or more glasses. It keeps the bloat off if you eat sodium, and tons of other benefits.

Actually a report that was reported about in the health section of the NY Times talked about water intoxification. When you sweat you lose potassium, sodium, electrolytes and other valuable nutrients. Drink lots of water to replace the fluids and you further reduce the percentage of those nutrients. They explained that it was happenning more and more in endurance athletes. They suggested electrolyte replacement drinks combined with water.

The scary thing is that treating dehydration is easier than treating the water intoxification problem.

I was always told by my hiking mentor, if your pee is clear and doesn't smell, you're getting enough water.

I don't notice a difference in my physical appearance when I'm paying attention to my water intake. But I can tell you, I have a much more difficult time keeping things "moving" (if you know what I mean) if I haven't had a lot of water.

Especially since I take a fiber supplement. If you take fiber, and don't drink enough water, that can bind you up.
