Wellness Committee-ideas?

Hey everyone:

I was at a wellness committee meeting all day and am a full fledged leader in our committee at the school I work at. Sooooo, this committee is going to compile information for the employees, have health contests with "good" healthy prizes and many other things.

Now I need to pick your brains. I need any ideas of great resources (i.e. websites, mail address, magazines, etc.), contest ideas, incentive ideas and prizes.

I figured there's no place better than here to get great ideas for this committee. I'm just pumped to get it started! This kind of thing is truely my calling, I believe, but I'm not sure where to go from here as far as a new career if at all possible. ;-)

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

I used to run a wellness program at work (several companies ago :) ) You might want to check out governmental (federal, state, local) resources and departments of health, surgeon general, etc. They have materials and programs that you can use to start off with. Also check out the major research universities - sometimes they have a program you can sign up with or offer to your organization. Local hospitals usually have community programs and offerings, too, so check them out. They may be able to give you some ideas, materials or provide guest speakers. (I used to do lunch and learns if people were interested.)

Most major health magazines have websites that have lots of info, materials and nutrition/fitness topics available. (Prevention is one that comes to mind, and I know that Reader's Digest has health and nutrition programs, too, online.

I hope some of this helps. There is so much stuff out there, it can be overwhelming. Do you have a plan drafted or specific goals in mind? Because there are so many directions to go in, and there's so much info blowing around, it really helps to focus your efforts and organize the program to meet specific goals. Sometimes people tend to tune out because of info overload. You can always build on a program once it has a firm foundation and people are aware of what you're doing.

Best of luck to you - your excitement will really help with the success of your program!
